There are so few places a smoker can smoke and if I book a balcony and can smoke then there is where I will light up. If it bothers you or others then go inside to one of the many areas I can not go and smoke. If I pay to book a balcony it is my right to enjoy it, Carnival says I can smoke out there so I will. If it bothers you oh well, if you ask me to put out my smoke of choice I will not do it. I don't know why it is that non-smokers feel they should have all the rights. I remember a day when you could smoke everywhere now it is so limited as to where one can smoke it is crazy. Smokers have rights to. I am allergic to perfume so am I allowed to tell you not to wear it because I don't like it and it makes me sick. Get real people I have had people complain about the smoke in the smoking area. Just because one smokes does not make them a criminal Geez. Live and let live if I want to smoke, I can and I will when ever and where ever it is allowed. And if you don't like it oh well...

As a non-smoker, there isn't much you can do if the balcony smells of smoke, except go inside.

Even if your direct neighbor isn't smoking, you'll often smell the smoke of the guy 3 down and 2 over.

Even with my direct neighbor smoking, it hasn't been as bad as being in the old lounges when smoking was allowed. If it did get too strong, I just went inside.

I don't recall ever being on the balcony when I couldn't smell SOMEONE smoking though (done two cruises with balconies), and it was only rarely the neighbor.

If you smoke on your balcony and have never had a problem, you will if your next balcony cabin is next to mine, and I or my family member has to inhale 2nd hand smoke from one of your lung cancer sticks, and you refuse to stop killing us.

Allowed or not, I don't appreciate anyone putting the health of me or my family at risk. We have a right to breathe smoke-free air, and I will not allow anyone to infringe on that.

You have no right, nor expectation that anyone legally smoking on thei balcony has to stop just because you say so. You have options, as do they... They chose to exercise their smoking options by getting a balcony where they are allowed to smoke. If the risk to your family is so great then you can exercise the option by paying for a Spa balcony or downgrading to an outside room.

I am a non-smoker and if I had a balcony that I couldn't use because of constant cigarette smoke I wouldn't be happy, but I'm much happier now that they don't allow smoking in the cabin.

You are the type of person who is a perfect match for the obnoxious and belligerent smoker you are ranting about.

Learn to live with others and we'll all get along a lot better.

Why not? Many laws today are now aimed at protecting the health of those that do not want to partake in a dangerous health act. Yes they do have the right to smoke, but most laws are aimed at also telling them they don't have the right to endanger others health. Cruise ships need to just ban smoking altogether except in small smoking areas away from others.

Wow, you are a real piece of cake! You need to cruise on a total non smoking ship. If not, and you want to continue to sail with CCL, I guess you will have to suck it up!

Everytime I need to fart, I'll go on the balcony and point my ashe towards the smoker's cabin.

Chances are said cabin is up wind from you so when you break wind it will wind up elsewhere.

All intelligent people know that the ocean breeze will dissipte that smell also.

Do you have an alternate plan to use if the smoker is below you?

How would you handle such a situation?

With the attitude that person has, light another cigarette! There is no "right" to a smoke-free environment on a balcony. If s/he thinks they have that right, they are free to post the appropriate literature from the Carnival website proving so.

I now envision them swinging their butt up and over the railing and...

Seriously, if you ask nicely most smokers will understand. Then the next time they're out there, they'll check to see if anyone is there and forewarn them. I have never had a problem.

Most people that talk in this manner on a website (hiding behind a keyboard) would never in a million years have the gall to actually talk this way to someone they are standing face to face with, most will browbeat the room steward or guest services.

A polite word asking instead of demanding as if you are the grand poobah of NeverNeverland is much more effective in my experience.

In fact I'd go as far as saying if someone ever acted in this manner to my husband catching a smoke on the balcony, then I would have no choice but to invite every smoker I can find on the cruise to our balcony daily for drinks :D;)

You get what you give in life, why not give rainbows and cherries instead of mud and spitballs???

As someone who has asthma that can be aggrivated by cig smoke I figured I would tell my thoughts on this. Like someone said, when the ship is moving the air is moving pretty quickly, can it really bother you that much, it doesn't me. Now if the nearby balcony was full of smokers that might be a different story. I might go inside for 10-15 minutes and try again (depending on my plans at that time). Then go back out and hope the smokers were done. I highly doubt that our schedules would overlap all week.

I'm not a smoker but I have no problem with someone smoking on the balcony if I am next to them. As others have said, the balconies are designated smoking areas so that is my expectation going into it. I would never ask them to not smoke on their balcony. It is one of the few places they can.

I am a smoker -- and we get a balcony because i can smoke there.

I do not like smoking in public places, like the Lido deck, where the kids are.

I do not like smoking in enclosed places, like the casino, where the smoke lingers.

So I retreat to my (private) balcony, attached to the side of a boat, in the open air and I have my quick 3 minute smoke.

I do not smoke inside at my own home either. Or in my car. always on my porch.

Now the ironic thing is that a lot of these non smokers see no problem with smuggling alcohol, or getting so drunk they can barely make it to their rooms.

Or standing at the grill, which is billowing out smoke. or driving their monster SUV, which is billowing out smoke.

When I am on my balcony, I make a point of asking my neighbors if they mind me smoking.

If they do mind, I tell them if they rap on the balcony divider, I will put it out, no problems.

I figure they should be able to enjoy their balcony also.

Great Attitude!!!! :)
