We just got back from the Radiance of the Seas Alaska southbound. I ordered 16 bottles of water as a package.

They were 1 litre bottles. I can't remember the brand, but it was a name brand of bottled water. At 16 bottles we got a case of 12 plus 4 extras.

My wife prefers diet soft drinks and such so we had brought the crystal light individuals that do 500ml each so we made crystal with 2 packages per bottle.

As per their website: The Water Package is an option for guests sailing with Royal Caribbean to order water in various package sizes at a discounted price. The Water Package will be delivered to your stateroom on the date you request. We offer four quantities: 8 bottles, 12 bottles, 16 bottles and 24 bottles. The size of the water bottles offered in the package is the Evian 1 liter plastic bottled water.

8 bottles = $28.45

12 bottles = $40.30

16 bottles = $50.55

24 bottles = $71.10

plus a 15% gratuity charge

I actually called RCI earlier today to ask about the water packages and they confirmed (after some background conferring!) that they are litre sports bottles of Evian. A very expensive way of ensuring you get a life sustaining necessity really!

Is the water from the stateroom bathrooms a) drinking water and b) even drinkable?!

Yes.The stateroom bathroom's water is technically drinking water but drinkable is a personal preference kind of thing. I prefer to buy my water;) on every cruise. jmho

The "bathroom" water is potable and is the same water that makes your ice, your coffee, your tea, lemonade, and food! (It won't ever "run cold" from your faucet, ...that's why you have ice!!!) It's fine, and it doesn't cost a penny extra! I cannot fathom paying $70 for water!!!!

I cannot consider buying bottled water on a ship since the water from the taps is distilled from the sea. It has no taste or after effects. We have bought a few bottles for excursions but it is not a biggie. In fact, for excursions, we are likely to buy bottled water off of the ship as it avoids the gratuity. Plus, most excursions include water and/or adult beverages. We have managed to stay well in spite of drinking tap water by washing our hands religiously. Our Transatlantic cruise occurred during the swine flu "epidemic" and there were some infected folks on the ship in quarantine. So, enjoy the water, ice, showers, etc. and follow good health practices on the ship (and in port), you will have a great time!

Friends of ours were new to crusing on RCL and didn't see/read/check the cards or note on the dresser/desk about the 4 bottles of Evian 1 liter water in their stateroom, and assumed it was complimentary (LMAO) - so opened it & drank from it, they even disposed the unfinished portion from the bottles into the sink at night. The next day, it was restocked (how nice, huh) so they opened 2 more bottles on day 2 - then, found out from others while being offered bottled water in the MDR & asked for their SeaPass that it wasn't complimentary after all, LOL. They're "accustomed" to being "comp'd" & sailing as VIP of Casino Royal as being "high rollers" on land.

They're ended up being charged for 4 liters of bottled Evian water with auto-tips included at almost $9 USD per bottle - so the "packaged" pricing scheme is a 50% saving off the ship's "retail" rates. The casino gave them a bunch of comp. drink cards free for use in the casino, but the $36 charge stayed on their account.

When the ship docked in the port the next morning, they picked up "off-brand" bottled water from local stores in town at far better prices - which turned out to be "sourced" & packaged from hometown in NYC.

Just pause for a moment, the ship's officers & crews all drink from the ship's filtered potable water system daily, 365 days a year - b/c I don't see them buying cases of bottled tap water from land & taking them onboard ... If it feels good & your wallet is deep enough, by all means - go Evian.

I will not have an issue with drinking the water they offer. If you get a glass of water with dinner you will get tap water. The water is de-salinated (sp) on the ship so you are getting pure water out of the ocean.

http://www.hamworthy.com/News-and-Events/News/Hamworthy-MSF-evaporators-provide-fresh-water-for-Oasis-/

Are the Actual de-salination units on the ship.

Similar to anyone who has been in Aruba, the water there is actually quite good out of the tap (again they de-salinate their own water on the island).

I am buying a soda package, but I would never think of buying water on the ship.

Crystal light sounds good to me. It is oK to bring it on board?

I have been on many cruises but this will be #4 with RCCL. Some of the rules are different, I don't want to bring anything onboard that is not allowed.

We have never had a problem, we get the individual portions, take the packages out of the boxes and combine them in ziplock baggies as it takes up less space.

On my next cruise in September will be the 1st time I have ever purchased water on a cruise. In the past we've always purchased the soda package. Honestly though, any of the times with soda packages...we've never really filled our souvenir cups up enough times to justify paying that much for a soda...I think it's just a "peace of mind" thing...the freedom at anytime being able to order and not having to keep up with how much you've spent on individual drinks...we like to just take care of it all up front. With that being said though...I too still have a hard time wrapping my head around $40 for 12 bottles of water...especially when I can get away with bringing some on board via carry on luggage...at least last time we brought the mini bottles of water through luggage and were never confiscated. So i'm still at a toss up. I like the convenience of being able to grab a cold bottle of water in my room and carry it with me on the ship and then toss it away when finished versus keeping up with one container the whole cruise. I'm still tossing the idea around as well....

I might get the package and bring one empty 20 oz bottle with me. Then I can fill my 20 oxbottle from the bottled water package.

We do the same thing just for that reason, we buy the water package just to be able to grab and go. We are flying this time and I know I could stop and get a case prior to boarding but I just don't want the hassle of it all. No I am not wealthy, I am a public school teacher in NC. It is my view that sometimes convenience and less worry are worth money. I have the same view with my Xmas cards. I pay the extra money to have hallmark dot com to address, stamp and send out my cards. My xmas cards are done in 20 minutes.

It's a good deal for the water package, those large 1 L bottles of Evian water are between $3 and $4 a bottle at Shoprite where I live. We've already purchased the 24 pk to be in our room on day 1.

Now if you go to the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, your gonna pay $3 for the small bottle of Poland Spring, and $5 to $6 for a larger bottle of no name brand water.

Last year I brought 16 bottles of Smart Water (the 1L size) and had no problem boarding Freedom with my water. I paid $0.25 per bottle, using coupons.

I don't drink the tap water. There is residual salt in it if it is desalinated; but often the water is purchased in ports. Since I have no idea how these foreign ports treat their water, I steer clear of it whenever possible. I know that the ship uses it in cooking and in making ice cuber,so I try to steer clear of ice cubes as well.

It is a matter of personal choice, BUT the day I pay $75 for 24 bottles of water, somebody PLEASE hit me upside my head.....

Wed I spoke with a PCC who called me from RCCL. He wanted to know if I needed help with a hold that I had on a cruise. I told him that the booking was given to my TA and the deposit was made. I then ask him about bring water onboard. He said that I could bring a six pack.

I don't think that I would bring it, because I don't want to carry it. But I just wanted to know.

An earlier poster called the water package a SCAM. A scam is when you think you are getting one thing and you get another....it is WATER!!!! you know what it is, you know the price...If you buy it you are the fool!!!! it is not a SCAM!

The water on a ship is as pure as you can get it! PT BARNUM once said it, "there is a sucker born every minute"

Some folks treat bottled water like it was fine wine or precious metals! It is WATER!!!!!

I take empty water bottles with me and fill them on the ship. Way cheaper and I don't have a problem with the tap water. I also take crystal lite as I like the lemonade that crystal lite has. just keep the water in the fridge or the cooler I bring and I am fine.

Just got off Allure two weeks ago. Before boarding we had our driver stop at a Rite-Aid just outside the port. The wife and daughter-in-law bought a case of water each, stuck a luggage tag on it, and gave it to a porter with a little extra tip. It was waiting in our cabins with our luggage. Haven't tried it at Canaveral yet but it may be worth a try.

I wonder if this has ever happen to any one else. My Dr wants me to use bottled water on the cruise ship. It is kind of a hit and miss thing for me. On some ships my BP will go very high and I get sick. It is not the salt in the food because I get low salt diet. It has happen on ships that are some times close in age. On Tahitian Princess and Azamara Journey--both the same type of ship, Monarch of the Seas, Neiw Ansterdam.

At home I eat all the salt that I want and my BP (with no meds) is great. When I take a cruise I have to carry meds wit me for high BP.

Even though the water from the ship is very pure there just might be something added or in it that could cause this to happen to me. There for my MD wants me to use bottled water while on board. Cans of soda only, no soups, coffee or teas. I try to stay away as much as I can from most things made with lots of water. All most all the food we eat has some water in it. Even bread is made with it. But if I cut the use of it down I don't get the high BP. The past cruises that I have done this I have had no trouble.

Who knows? For me it had been working. That is why I asked the question about the water.

Therefore for me, I need to try it on this cruise.
