Are they for the ship or for shore? Wood soles? Wood soles have no cushioning.

A flat or wedge walking shoe or sandal is best if she isn't used to walking on cobblestones. Those things are horrible to walk on, slippery and not in any way level, Ruins are not much better.

Would she consider tan or beige? Orange is very hard to find.

They would be for aboard ship.

For the ship they should be fine.

Those remind me of the original Dr Scholls. Took about a month to break them in and to heal the blisters. Take moleskin, JIC.

And they were noisy. Slapping against my heel and clacking on the tile.

Some people LOVE the Dr. Scholls. I personally don't, but recall my mom wearing them for pretty much the first 20 years of my life, so.....

If your wife thinks they're comfortable, get them. If she just wants an "orange sandal" - I would keep looking for a style more universally comfortable. Get a style similar to what she already has. If she's really specific about what brands work and which ones do not, better stick to what she knows and likes!

While I think they are uncomfortable, too, they aren't "retro" or out of style.....

Personally, I want to try on shoes before I buy them....what does your wife think?

And, while orange may go with an outfit or two, something neutral will be much more usable!!!

Well, we have no idea what she's packing. Maybe orange (esp something that's brick or coral leaning, and not safety vest) will go with everything she wants to bring. Or maybe she already has black and beige and white and wants something fun. In any event - OP says "wife wants orange" so he's a good spouse and he's trying to do get what she wants:D

Those sandals brought back memories!

I was one of those Dr Scholls wearing teen girls in the early 70's and wore mine for quite a few years after they left the stores LOL

I actually thought they were quite comfortable and I never got blisters or found them to be too hard but then again I was much younger then and when I tried them recently I found that I would get toe cramps from gripping the formed wood that gave me great legs back in the day!

My biggest complaint was that those rubber soles would collect small rocks if I walked on sharp gravel and then I would have to pick out the gravel at night.

IN MY OPINION, hard soled sandals (or shoes) are so uncomfortable. And with wood when your feet sweat the moisture builds against the sole of your foot. Hurts just thinking about it.

I've got three pairs of the Sofft sandals posted below (black patent, navy blue, cork). I've had the black & navy for two years and pretty much live in them all summer.

When Dr. Scholls wooden sandals were "in" I lived in them, found them comfy, never sweaty or got blisters. I think at the time they said they were supposed to tone your calves. They didn't clop either.;)

BTW, where's the OP? Wonder if he's found anything else?

even though they gave me blisters, I loved my Dr. Scholls and lived in them every summer through out high school. BUT, I don't think I'd buy them for a cruise. Those inflexible wooden soles can be very dangerous if you land on the edge of a step the wrong way--you go down hard.
