Have not booked any excursions for my cruise next week - should I be worried?

Recommended Posts

We leave next week for our 4 night cruise on Majesty of the Seas - ports are Nassau, Bahamas; Coco Cay; and Key West.

I have not booked any excursions. I plan to take the Segway tour in Nassau, and sign up for snorkeling with whatever vendor we run into on the docks. However, I am curious about trying out Atlantis - do I need to get a day pass just to have access to the property?

For Coco Cay, I have read mixed reviews on the snorkeling there so I was thinking of just lounging on the beach, then going back to the ship to relax.

For Key West, I planned to just do the trolley tour, see Hemingways House, and try the local restaurants.

Should I be worried that I have not pre-booked anything?

Based on your plans, it does not seem you need much in the way of tours? Only the Segway tour. If you want to do that one, you might want to sign up. Otherwise, it sounds as though you will be doing Key West and Coco Cay on your own (which is sensible), and maybe using a dockside vendor for snorkeling. As far as Atlantis, you can take a cab and visit, but if you want to use their pool facilities or other special tours/facilities you must pay. You can walk around the downstairs area, eat at the restaurants (for cost) and play at the casino without paying for a pass.

Good plan for KeryWest if you have never been there before.

When you visit the Hemingway House don't miss the beloved 26 toed polydactyl cats!

As for Atlantis, simply take a taxi (land or water) to Paradise Island for $4 per person each way. You can walk around the island, walk through the hotel lobby, visit the casino. Keep it low key and save a few $$$

Your keywest plans are fine, I recommend the Cityview trolley instead of the other one. City view is cheaper and lets you get off and on when and where you want to. We took the entire circuit once, got off the 2nd lap at the southern point, hopped back on till Hemmingway house, walked from there to the Blackfin Bistro for a great hamburger! and then walked back about 1 mile to the port area.

Coco cay, probably no problems. What segway tour are you taking in Nassau? I don't think there are any affiliated with Royal now, but I've heard of some others and may consider doing this again when I go back to Nassau next April 29th.

We did a segway tour but the ship didnt have any available so we had to book that with an outside company. You would need to do this in advance. Unless, they now offer it again.

Not as of the last I looked a couple of weeks ago. I did one in 2007 through RC, but that one is gone. It started in the cricket field, went to a fort, then through a botanical garden. Someone recommended another one through Carribean tours in Nassau that included a beach stop. I'm looking into that one.

Thanks !! For Atlantis - how much does the day pass run again and what "benefits" does it carry other than just allowing you access to the pool? Is it worth it to eat dinner there?

Our ship is docked in Nassau until 10 or 11 pm so we were thinking of eating dinner somewhere in Nassau - is that feasible or is it unsafe to walk around at night?

The Segway Tour I was checking out is:

Thanks if you enjoy that, I may try it as well. When do you leave and what ship stays there till 10?

Our 1st trip to Nassau, we were there until 2am....and, it was formal night! So, we went ashore during the day, got back on the ship and readied for dinner on the ship, then went to Atlantis (in all our finery!) to gamble! Lots of fun!

It's not "unsafe" to walk around, but I'm not sure there's alot within walking distance. Atlantis requires a cab or water ferry. The 'day pass" is to use the waterpark/pool/beach....that's all.

One of the problems though is that most stores in the downtown area close around 5PM, so do whatever shopping you want before then.

We used Bahamas Segway Tours after doing some research online. They had a very good review on Trip Advisor. They were on time, polite and we had a fun and enjoyable day. Very easy after you get the hang of it.

I wouldn't worry about booking excursions. Key West is easy to do on your own. Don't miss chocolate covered frozen key lime pie on a stick. Was on CoCo Cay in May and I really enjoyed the snorkeling, it was a great beach day just to relax. Nassau is not one of my favorite ports but people I talked to who went to Atlantis liked it. There are many different price points when going there, you can choose what you want to do. Just relax and enjoy your vacation.

My daughter and I got off the boat in Key West and just rented bikes (I had done my research on which company to use (can't recall now). But next week it will probably be too hot.

The snorkling in coco cay is awesome, but no planning is needed. If you don't bring your own snorkle equipment, just rent it all there. We haven't been to coco cay in a while and really miss it. The lifeguards feed the fish so there are so many around the stands. We've seen numerous stingrays also while snorkling there.

That's new, on my 2 Majesty cruises we weren't there that late. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

This will be our first cruise in which we didn't book any excursions ahead of time. I guess mainly because we've been to these ports so many times and we are just going to make it up as we go. I have noticed that there's usually an opportunity to book thru the ship once you board, should you change your mind. Have a great cruise!
