Wow, Omg!!! I had no idea it had gotten this bad, I have been to the Atlantis serveral times, was there in May of 2008 and 2011, although this last trip we just walked around the hotel and went to the casino and then to cabbage beach. In 2008 it was no where like this I have beautiful pics of the water and aquarium. So sad, this trip will be our honeymoon and my husband has no desire to see Atlantis anyway, so we may just head to a nice quite beach, maybe Junkanoo Beach. Also did not know you can't just walk around the hotel anymore.

Glad I could be of help, I do regret all the money I spend there... Up until someone else posts that they fixed it and cleaned it, I would not recommend it to any one.

So if I am reading this right... Junkanoo is a free beach close to the pier? And thank you for those pictures of Atlantis resort... You saved me alot of money ... I can spend my money at better and cleaner places...

If I am correct the beach is to the right of the pier, but maybe someone else can confirm that. You're welcome, yeah take your hard earned cash elsewhere, they don't deserve it.

Yes, when you exit the terminal building go to your right. Walk down the street, you'll have to go a block up because the street ends at Senor Frogs. Just keep following the road and you'll come to the beach. And if you get bored you can walk back to the terminal, stop at the straw market, go the the museum, look at the 'fancy goods' stores.... ;)

After a bit of hem-hawing about Atlantis, I decided to book an entirely different Nassau excursion through http://www.bestonbahamas.com.

For $150/person (two of us), there's a "Do-It-All" tour that allows us to snorkel, parasail, jetski, banana boat, lunch and lazy beach time. 4 hours of fun with transportation included. Can't beat it.

Thanks everyone for their honest feedback/information on Atlantis. We'll hit a water park elsewhere...cuz neat water slides and wildlife are everywhere.

I read awhile back that after 6 or 7 the aquarium area is free at the Atlantis? We have 2 days in Nassau so we would like to at least see it but don't want to spend $$$ on doing a water park on a cruise. I had friends that just did the aquarium in June and they didn't mention how dirty the tanks were. Makes we upset considering how much that place rakes in a day.

Not sure about the free aquarium at those hours, maybe someone else can comment on that. But yeah the resort is definitely very dirty, I am not sure how it can go unnoticed by guests. Maybe to some people it might be a big deal, but when I am spending that much money for a few hours, it is a big deal for me.

This thread saved us as well. Our family of four took a room at Comfort Suites and spent a great day in Atlantis in 2008. But they used to limit admissions to Aquaventure (no longer) and there were no lines on slides and the place was clean. Things appear to have gone downhill pretty fast. We'll be at the Sheraton for the day on our cruise next April.

I was there June of last year - at that time, the guards at the entrance would leave around 5-6pm when most of the visiting cruise ship crowd had cleared out. Once the guards were gone, you could just walk right in. However, I have heard that the overall security has been beefed up everywhere and just trying to leave the lobby could be problematic.

If you do want to try, if you are standing in the main lobby looking into the hotel towards the windows, you will see aquarium windows below in a dining area. On that lower level to the right of those windows is the entrance.

I can vouch for that, it seems that most of their resources are going towards security. I have never seen so many security guards looking wrists in my life, making sure you have the right color band.

After reading all this I don't think we will be going to Atlantis next year when we go. But I'm curious about the shopping in that area. Is there any markets near the pier? My hubby with be on a scooter and we probably won't be going to far from the ship so what is close to the pier to do? Hoping to get some soveniers while we are there.

The main shopping area is just outside the gate. Along the wharf and 1 block up parallel to the wharf on Bay Street. Plenty of shops..

scubagirrl any help on if the atlantis is open for fee after reg cruise hours? I would hate to go and get kicked out.

There is NO policy regarding letting people into the DIGS after hours. It's hit or miss. If there is something going on at the cafe at the hall of waters (which is the entrance), security will not let you down the stairs.

Lots of people have done it. Some have been turned away.

Management has not officially opened the DIGS to the public.

Sorry I can't be more help

Thanks. I think we will do a day at Cabbage beach for the 1st of 2 days there so we will try. Worse case we have to pay. Any ideas on what time they close at night?

They don't really close, but the light DIM after 6pm.. I think the end gate gets locked around 10/11.. but the DIGS are still open, you just can't get out to the property at that point

We are going to be in Nassau in a couple of weeks. Carnival has the Atlantis Aquaventure Full Day with Lunch of $149 per adult and $99 per child. After looking at some of the rates to do on your own, this doesn't seem to be too far off when you account for transportation and lunch.

Considering the price of food over there, that is a great deal. A fruit salad to go was $14!!!!!

The beach itself was slightly dirty and disorganized

This picture needs to be clearly analyzed. You can notice alge floating in the pool. But most importantly look at the little island in the middle is completely green, full of algae. .

Thanks for those. I went through the Digs with the wife's youngest daughter when we were there on the Disney Wonder some 10 years ago. Wife wasn't feeling well and stayed on the ship. We are going to be there on OAS in Feb. and she was talking about seeing them. After seeing these I think we may just stay on the ship. We've both been to Nassau on private boats and are really not impressed with it.
