Atlantis: A few questions?

Thanks for those. I went through the Digs with the wife's youngest daughter when we were there on the Disney Wonder some 10 years ago. Wife wasn't feeling well and stayed on the ship. We are going to be there on OAS in Feb. and she was talking about seeing them. After seeing these I think we may just stay on the ship. We've both been to Nassau on private boats and are really not impressed with it.

No problem, glad I could help.

Hello, I will be cruising to Nassua on May 19th. I've already been to Atlantis, but one of our group has not. Is it true that the only place we can go without a pass is the casino, lobby and the Marina village?

I'm just short of devastated, reading this thread. I watched on the internet as Atlantis was being built and have always dreamed of going there. I want to walk the Digs, see all the animals and the Atlantian sights. Yes, I know they're not real but seeing the place meant something to me. Now I don't know what to think. We've already paid for the combined Aquaventure and Dolphin excursion.

I don't mean to be melodramatic but for me it was a life dream to see this place, and now it feels like that dream is dying. :(

In a panic, I did some internet research. Apparently Atlantis was in an uncertain state with being handed over from January through May of this year. In May Brookfield finally took over and made a commitment to keep some 8,000 employees and put $50 million a year into the property.

I also looked at some recent reviews on Trip Advisor, by recent I mean within the last few weeks. Better than 90% of them say that Atlantis is beautiful, amazing and breath-taking.

I don't know, maybe they cleaned up their act since this thread was started. I hope so. At least now I feel a little bit better.

I hope it'll be okay. :(

We decided to give it a go as well. I had a friend visit on the Valor in early July and she said it was amazing. I am sure we will have a great time as will you. I figure we could only go to somewhere like this in Nassau or Dubai:o and somehow I dont see me taking break from cruising to take a land vaca anytime soon.

To Matt in FL-I think your Carnival deal is not bad. My Disney cruise wants $169 pp for the aquaventure and we have 5 people so I'm looking into other options. But for transportation and food and a guaranteed admission, not bad.

For others worried about Atlantis, I'll be there in 3 weeks and maybe others will post their experience in the meantime. I think there may some unwarranted criticism about aquarium water clarity and maintenance. I will post an honest assessment of the grounds based on the particular environment. If I find any baby ruths in the pool, I'll let you know.

Pictures don't lie.

But hopefully they got their act together and cleaned the place up.

"pictures don't lie" but natural environments are not the same as the water park elements. I'm not sticking up for Atlantis but you would have to have some knowledge of salt water environs before accusing of animal abuse and a champagne cork on the beach should not be cause for alarm.

I live in south florida and as you know there is an abundance of aquariums around this area. I have yet to see an aquarium in that condition until I visited Atlantis. It was very puzzling when I saw them, I could not put things together until my mom made a comment of the condition of the water and tunnels. But in any case to each their own, its not my money. This thread was simply a warning sing for those deciding to go there. Always take everything with a grain of salt.

And you're right the cork wont kill anyone, yet at a resort that cannot care of their beach at night simply leaves a sour taste in ones mouth considering how much you're required to pay. Simply put, I have not visit a public beach on the Ft.Lauderdale area in the morning that is not pristine clean (unless post storm) and those are all free beaches. So just saying.

I went there I did it and I had a so so experience, will I ever go again? Probably not. I much rather have spend my money at the Blue Lagoon. Maybe next time.

this is disappointing to read but I'm still going to give it a whirl in April; hopefully they'll have cleaned up their act by then. I've been to Atlantis several times over the years, the last time being almost 3 years ago. But this will be the first time for the kids and there's really nothing else they'd rather do in Nassau then Atlantis....they're not all that interested in swimming with dolphins or seeing a tour of the island or going to the beach....... they will just be in awe walking around Atlantis and think it's the coolest thing ever. DS has seen pics from last time I went and online and is dying to go there. We're not going to do the Aquaventure, just the Discover Atlantis tour. Now I'm skeeved out thinking about how gross the pool/slide water might be, lol.

DH has only been there once, over 10 years ago and he thought it was awesome, so I know he'll be excited to go back there too.

I'm glad I didn't just book us all a trip to Atlantis instead of doing the cruise which is what I originally planned!

  • 3 weeks later...

i think it basically gives you access to the entire resort, doesn't it? You just can't go on any of the water slides or use their beach. But from what I can tell you can walk around the grounds and inside the aquarium

If you have never been, it is something to see! I was there in February, and it was a little cool and windy, so we didn't do water activities, but they looked amazing to me!

Don't worry...fulfill your dream!

I feel exactly the same! Will be there in a week and still trying to decide if I should go. I might regret not going but it sure sounds like I could also regret going!

Just wanted to post back and let people know what an awesome time we had at the Atlantis. Due to hurricane Sandy our 35 hours in Nassau was cut down to 7 but we decided to go to Atlantis anyway. We didnt get to see nearly enough but had a blast and will definitely return whether it is on another cruise or a land vaca.

I have some photos and videos from the aquarium as well as what we were able to see of the property. We rented a room which was a waste due to our itinerary change. However the cost of the room was equal to a day pass so we would have spent that regardless.

Due to the storm there were NO lines for anything which was awesome. We only did the Serpent slide once which is the innertube slide that goes through the shark tank. That was pretty cool. Our friends did the other slide next to it that also goes through the tank but you just slide you are not in a tube.

We did the current river which was a lot of fun but is very long and time consuming.

The different animal lagoon areas were really cool and we loved the aquarium. It was very nice and seemed well managed.

Next time we go we will hopefully be able to see and do a lot more.

I will be posting some pictures in the next couple of days once I go through everything.

I have only bought tickets thru the ship before, and spent about $180 per person - where do you buy the tickets pictured for $130?

I saw a desk next to the hotel check in for the aqua venture tickets which is where they drop you off in front of the hotel. I have also seen you can buy them in the Casino.

We saw the same info when we were comparing booking directly with Atlantis vs. Comfort Suites. All of fees Comfort Suites has extra on the bottom is included in your total cost when you book through Atlantis.

Do a quick price compare totaling all those fees for CS vs the total at Atlantis. Our difference was about $5 so it made sense for us to book direct with Atlantis.

HOWEVER, I called and spoke to Atlantis regarding any extra fees etc, the assured me there was nothing else I would pay for except for extras like food, lockers, etc. When we checked in they informed me of a $150 per night hold on my card which wouldnt be released for 31 days. I am unsure of the policy or deposit for incidentals at CS but I would check. I read the terms & conditions for Atlantis and called twice and this was not mentioned so I made a small fuss and they decided they didnt need to charge me this. However anything I wanted like a locker or food needed to be charged direct to my card instead of using my room key.
