Flight time from FLL after a Transatlantic cruise

I'm considering a transatlantic cruise that ends in FLL.

 

We've heard that TA's might take longer to disembark than a regular cruise. Should a flight time a little after 12 noon be OK, or do we have to look for something later?

You will be fine booking a flight after Noon or later.

The airport is about a 15 minute ride from the pier.

And there lots of taxis at the pier.

Noon should be fine. We've madea 10:30 flight with no problem, but of course that is taking a (slight) chance that something holds up the arrival time or debarkation.

 

The airport is so close, and usually not crazy busy, so that helps.

Just make sure it is not the same day the Oasis or Allure dock with their 6000 passengers trying to fly home!

Well that would be every single Saturday and Sunday as Port Everglades is the only port in the world that can accomodate those ships on turnaround day.

 

Far more important to the OP is the fact that if their ship has been outside the US for more than three months the entire crew will be subject to immigration inspection before passenger disembarkation can start. By the time that concludes the Coast Guard will have begun their saftey inspection and the Health Department their sanitation inspection which means the people who chose to do self-disembarkation with a transatlatic voyage's worth of luggage will move even slower than usual. Best bet by far is to schedule a flight after 12 and request one of the later disembarkation time; even if color tags are initially called 30-40 minutes late, they will be nearly caught up in the end and the initial crowd in the baggage hall, and lines for customs, will have diminished.

Definitely noon or later. We have missed a 10:30 am flight due to customs and immigration not releasing the ship for a couple of hours.

The most important factor on a TA is if the weather might cause a late arrival. The last TA we did we hit some rough weather one day which slowed us down and we arrived late. Disembarkation started at 1PM. This is not the norm, but it can happen.
