Alaska with 5 year old twins and 4 year old

DH and I have cruised Alaska before..but before we had kids. We live in Texas and I want to escape the heat next summer. Are there many kids on the boats in Alaska? I don't want our kids to get lonely in camp.

 

Does anyone know when I should book this cruise to get the best deal? Should i wait until the cruise "wave" sale?

I think your problem is going to be finding a cabin for five...or connecting cabins. Like handicapped accessible cabins, family cabins are scarce and book up early. EM

When are you looking to sale? While Alaska does generally attract a more older crowd, as long as school isn't in session, there will be kids.

 

Your biggest issue will be the cabin for 5.

There will be plenty of kids on Alaska cruises starting the first week of June. If you can go in early June- I highly recommend this. We saw so many whales spouting end of May- early June (I've been there 5 times now). We saw only a couple whales in July.

There will be plenty of kids. We had 460 or so on our trip this summer at the end of July. And contrary to an earlier poster, we saw lots of whales in July. I think we actually saw more last year, in August. I think for us it has been more a matter of location than time of year. We have always seen lots of whales coming out of Glacier Bay, but not so many on trips that have gone to Tracy Arm.

good to know about it being more around Glacier Bay. That makes sense because I saw the most whales on our two Princess cruises (May 2005 and June 1996) and Princess goes to Glacier Bay. The other cruises I did were on NCL and Celebrity.

Most ships do have connecting cabins....so check the deck plans for those configurations....and have the deck plans in front of you when you book! Few ships allow more than 4 in one cabin, unless you book a suite.

Radiance of the Seas has family oceanviews. They are roughly the same size as a junior suite, but no tub, and no balcony. I think they sleep 6. However, we had a balcony and were glad because our son was still sleeping when we visited Hubbard Glacier so we could be there with him, but out on the balcony taking pictures.

 

We took our 6 year old last summer the last week of June. There were plenty of kids. He had a great time.

 

Our biggest mistake was doing the northbound. That left us with the long flight home from Anchorage at the end and we were exhausted. Next time, it's southbound for us.
