Recommended Posts

if you book excursions in advance does rci ever cancel them ?

How far in advance is best to book the excursions?

RCI can cancel excursions if they do not get enough people on them to make them financially worthwhile and/or if local conditions mean it is no longer practical to run the excursion. This could mean bad weather making you miss the port of call, strike action or any circumstance where, in RCI's opinion, passenger safety could be at risk.

When RCI cancels excursions you will get a refund.

The best time to book is when you're sure you know what you want. Booking online before the cruise means you don't have to stand in (often long) lines to book onboard, wasting your precious cruise time and avoiding the risk of the excursions you want being sold out. If you subsequently change your mind then you can cancel onboard and get a refund. There is a cut-off date for doing this which is usually around 24 to 48 hours prior to the departure of the excursion.

Yes, they can and I have seen it done on Med cruises many times. Why not look at the ports of call board and see if there are any private excursions you would rather do. Private excursions are most often less crowded and less expensive. You do take on some additional responsibility but we have found, especially in Europe, they are well worth the effort.

Join your roll call if you have not and see anyone else wants to share excursions with you. Another great way to meet more of your cruising companions as well as save a few more $$.

We've experienced cancellations twice. Once they advertised 2 tours, later combined them into one moving all from later to earlier time. What if somebody had an early tour already reserved?

And another time some tours were cancelled due to an earthquake - damage on some roads. In this case, people were either moved to other tours or refunded.

Definitely will if head count minimums are not made, and they don't decide that those minimums are not going to be made until perhaps 24 hours before the trip goes out. Have had this occur to us at least three times over 14 cruises.

OUR helicopter trip to glaciers in Skagway Canceled 2x due to weather!

Messed up our WHOLE DAY!!!

We would have planned something else!

RCI is VERY GOOD about refunding MONEY though.

I think I have had about 1/3rd of excursions booked in advance canceled. This may have been my driving force to start looking at private excursions.
