Slight contradiction on loud music problem from Mr Bayley

Actually, the number of replies was immaterial as there wasn't to be any "replies", only questions. If this was a make it or break it issue for me, I'd would find another line. But, generally, I don't mind the music level. If it's bothering me, I move on to something else.:)

My problem is NOT with the Martini Bar. If the music is too loud we can just go to another venue.

But, the shows in the Celebrity Theater are another matter. One would have to miss the entertainment and shows if the music was too loud. The production shows and other fine performers each night are for us one of the main joys of cruising. Sadly, I have to carry ear plugs with me and need to use them maybe 20-25% of the time. One could argue that ear splitting volume levels add to the ambiance of rock music. Perhaps that is so. However, most of the music in the Celebrity Theater is not rock.

I might also have to acknowledge that those of us who object to deafening sound levels may be in the minority. I have seen many rousing standing ovations at the end of shows that I found the most physically painful on the ears, even with ear plugs.

;)

I left the only two shows I attended in =X= due to the noise. I know I am more sensitive to noise than most, but I can usually stay in the same room. I noticed some other men leaving with their hands over their ears at the same shows. Really cuts into the cruise experience. Is it worth it?

I am also sailing Eclipse in December- will see if there is a difference- i don´t suppose so.

One mentioned Mr. Bayley sounds like politician- well I guess every CEO is a little bit of a politician.

Anyway if we find the music to anoying on board we turn to Cunard! They have very nice ships also.

Oh well, looks like the Martini Bar experience is out for us. Mr. Bayley is not being up front and it might take us away from Celebrity. Sadly, it was so loud on Silhouette, in so many venues, that we couldn't hear ourselves think. We'll be on Eclipse in March so it might be our last experience. We loved the quiet on the M class ships so S class will be our last one if the music remains at the decibel levels on Silhouette. As has been said previously the set-up on the S class ships is not one we truly like at all and for those who like the beautiful library it's very noisy. Everything is off the central atrium and the noise level travel up thru the entire ship.

To each his own.

Hi Pat

I bet our 3/9 Eclipse group will be seated at one of the outer sections of the Marrtini Bar for the nightly gathering, so the noise will not be that noticeable.. sometimes it is worse on the other side of the atrium due to the way the sounds travels!

Hope they work on the theater volume--we don't go anymore b/c of that.(fewer drinks bought by us!)

Pool music volume and music choice all around still need some review--

All that said: I expect we'll have a great time...just have to avoid the noisy spaces!

We finally found a solution to the loud music in the theater. We got sound suppressors - usually used at a gun range. They knock 23 decibels right off the top, making everything quiet enough to enjoy. Of course, they do look rather dorky, but comfort rules.:D

To look less dorky, and actually highly fashionable - particularly on formal nights.....try these :D

Do you mean these:

If you do, and if you're serious (or nearly so), then you might consider these (click here for link to product description). Personally, I don't think the sound levels on the ship are that bad. But if you seriously need something this are exactly what you should look for. I've had some for years - bought 20 years ago when we still occasionally went to rock concerts where the music was too loud for comfort. They are specifically designed to reduce sound level of concerts and such but still allow the music quality to come through. They are inexpensive as well. They run $10 to $20 on Amazon (click here)

I believe Mr. Bayley also stated that the Martini Bar "tends to be the most popular place on our ships in evening hours." I would assume this statement is simply due to the revenue generated at the bar.

We have sailed often with Celebrity, and have never found the music to be an issue in the Martini Bar. In fact, it is often one of the few 'lively' places on the ships in the evening, with the exception of the theatre and the casino.

When we are looking for a quiet after dinner drink, there are many venues that afford us that opportunity. I enjoy the energy of the Martini Bar, and hope it remains as is.

What I don't get are the countless cruisers saying that unless the music is changed to something more sedate, and the volume is lowered to a level with which they are comfortable, they will have to "give up the Martini Bar experience" . What they are not getting is that martinis can be had at nearly every bar on board, but the "Martini Bar experience" is about the vibe, the energy, the fun, the cool factor, the drinks, and yes, the music. ALL of that is part of the experience.

When, on a recent Silhouette cruise, I wanted a martini in a quieter less lively environment, I and some friends headed to Ensemble Lounge for Dirty Martinis and spent an hour listening to a jazz combo with a good vocalist. Great time, very different experience.
