Will I be disappointed with Carnival Splendor?

Hi!

I have been cruising for awhile now and am trying to make a decision!

My boyfriend and I live in Southern California and would love to go on a getaway for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately we don't have much to choose from in the form of week cruises, the Carnival Splendor is really our only option (besides the Sapphire Princess which is sadly sold out).

I have sailed with Carnival before (and am actually sailing with them in December from Miami on the Breeze), so I am by no means a Carnival snob. I have also sailed with NCL and RCCL...and most recently was on the Oasis of the Seas.

My boyfriend has never cruised. I know we would have fun on the Splendor regardless of the ship being older/smaller - because who doesn't have fun in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta and drinking and hanging out at the pool. My only worry is the reviews on this ship have been getting increasingly worse and maybe now I've spoiled myself going on the new ship.

What do you all think? Should I go and have fun and just have a good attitude that I get to sail away? Or will I be bored or disappointed?

I'm not one of those "complain abut everything" type people - but if the food was bad or there was nothing to do, I may be bummed about wasting money.

Would love your advice, thank you so much!

You'll love it! I've sailed her twice - have a great time - whatever you do, if you are people who enjoy the spa, get yourselves a couples spa pass - I think they're $250 for the entire week for both of you. The Cloud 9 spa is so great - the Thalassotherapy pool, the steam rooms, the heated loungers - a great way to unwind.

The aft pool is for adults only so it's a great place to hang out and have boat drinks by the pool!

Yes, there's a lot of pink on the ship. Ignore it :D

I am really going to miss her :(

I know the Miracle is taking her place...but Miracle does not have Cloud 9 :(

We did! And my youngest brother had just passed away a week before. We had already paid for the cruise and since my brother also loved to cruise we knew that he would want us to go and not lose our hard-earned money. I had a nice time...not one of my best cruises ever but that had nothing to do with the Splendor. She was a fun ship. The DH, DS, and his friend, both teenagers, had a great time. I hope you have a wonderful cruise!:D

I was on the 23 sept sailing.....I got my butt kicked in the casino and this could give me a good reason to downgrade the Splendor but factually I had a great time when not in the casino...here is a tip try the kareoke with Mr Li... it was a real treat and he is a major character.

We've been on the Splendor 4 times in the last 4 years. The last time was 9/16/12. We have enjoyed each of our cruises. The crew and staff are very helpful and friendly, food is good, lots of things to do, and YOU'RE ON A CRUISE! LOL! I highly recommend that you go to the cooking demonstration in the Pinnacle steakhouse on the first sea day, and don't have lunch before you go! Yummy, yummy, yummy! I know you'll have a great time. She's a great ship, pink circles and all!

Thank you so much DezertCruzer!

Have you eaten at the steakhouse before, besides the cooking demo? We are trying to decide if it is worth it or not, I have heard food in the MDR may be better?

I was also on the 9/23 sailing and LOVED IT !

Unfortunately Mr. Li left the ship last week.

He is now on their mandatory "break" before boarding a new ship in January.

We enjoyed the MDR *MUCH* more than we enjoyed the steakhouse.. ( I explain in my review.. won't go into detail here )

BUT I am in the minority.. most people like it.

Sorry.. didnt mean to hijack your question LOL !
