Son had problem on the imagination

It was an accident...unless your son and future dil can prove negligence it seems pretty petty to think that the cruise line should be held accountable or to infer that the use of "breakable" plates was something the cruise line should have foreseen as a potential hazard. Thousand upon thousands of peeps go through those buffet lines every day and the occasional occurence of a broken item shouldn't deter the cruise line from using serve ware that most people deem appropriate. I can just imagine the complaints if paper plates or plastic utensils become the norm. I think the incident, for all intents is a non issue and that your family is making a mountain out of a molehill. If something like this occurred on land no one would think of asking the restaurant to compensate them for the things a person couldn't do as they healed. The cruise line provided medical assistance, as they should, but that is the end of the story.

By the way...how much are they asking for since the inconveniences aren't guarantees. I'm sure lots of peeps don't get in the pool, and the ship doesn't require inordinate amounts of walking. And what someone wants to do on an excursion isn't any concern of the cruise...they don't guarantee that fun at the beach will be had by all.

Silly, silly complaint in my estimation.

What do you think?

I don't see how compensation is needed. Accidents happen. I'm not 100% clear on who caused the accident though. If a Carnival worker dropped a stack of plates and caused injury, I would feel different.

If I dropped a plate and cut myself, I would be thankful for the help from Carnival in getting me patched up. I would feel fortunate that my vacation had not ended with a trip to a hospital, a call to the trip insurance company, and a flight home. I would blame myself for my clumsiness and not Carnival for having real plates. The last thing on my mind would be getting some OBC.

I believe they should have gotten a credit on the cruise for at least 200 dollars towards there expenses, or a future cruise

You're joking. You'll have very slime all busting plates just for some kind of compensation, and all us tray balancer paying premium fares to support such.

Sorry this happened to them and on first cruise. :( Thank your son for his service for me. It would have been nice for some small gester of we are sorry it happened to you I know but as a business they did pay for the medical that was not their fault.

As for glass plates I haven't ever seen them at the Lido - they have always been plastic bowls and plates and cups and mugs... I'll look next cruise - but haven't ever seen them.... The father would be answering to me - more mad at them then CCL who didn't do anything.. Have you ever seen glass plates at the Lido? They won't even let you have a glass bottle of beer on the Lido anymore....

I'm sorry this happened to your son and his finance' that is a total bummer. But since Carnival wasn't the one who dropped the plates, to be honest, I don't think there is any ground to stand on here. It was another passengers fault. Did Carnival charge them for the medical care?

A lot of cruise lines use real glass plates. Lord, I wouldn't want to hear the Carnival Complainers if they switched to plastic plates.........CUTBACKS! :p.

Oh geez..stuff happens..OK..but seriously..a $50 OBC is really no big deal and it would have made them happy and compensated for the time lost.

A free cruise..no

A refund of the cruise..no

$50 bucks OBC..yes..as a goodwill gesture...not a big deal...

I guess none of you have called your cable company and said you are leaving?

Or called your credit card company and asked for a lower interest rate?

Or asked your TA for an OBC because you are 1. a good customer....2. a new customer and would like a little something..etc.etc..

I called my TA to make final payment on my last cruise 2 days early and as I told him to expect...I asked for a better price..and guess what?

saved $800 on 2 cabins and got an upgrade to an OV from the cheapest interior on the ship. Why? because I knew that the cruise was not sold out and from past experience I know that on Med cruises, when they have unsold cabins they actively and agressively market them to the nearby European cruisers who don't need to pay exhorbinate last minute airfares to book.

Giving me $800 allowed them to resell a cheap inside...and make a fortune on the drinks, casino etc that those pax would spend. The last minute European cruisers are not known to go high end as far as cabins are concerned and they wanted me out so they could get a few more pax on the ship...because the OV would have gone empty becaue the last minute folks wanted the inside..so instead of selling the OV to them....they gave it to me..gave me money to take it...made me happy...made the European last minute folks happy...by selling them the inside..and filled up the ship.

$50 bucks...done..not a big deal and it is done for much lesser issues..all the time

If it happened to me, I'd appreciate it if someone higher up on the ship sent some chocolate covered strawberries, a pass to the fee restaurant, or SOMETHING with a note expressing concern for a speedy recovery.

Water activities are a big part of many people's cruise vacation. You really can't stomp on their disappointment about that - so stop it. You're on a ship in...wait for it.... WATER! Kind of a given for most cruisers.

OP: accidents happen, but it's always NICE to have it followed with some level of concern. I understand why you are upset for your son and daughter-in-law, and hopefully, this is will be their only story of bad vacation experiences ...and they will have no more.

on the first day on the Buffet line, plates were dropped and my sons fiance legs were cut pretty badly

I'm not really picking on you but IMO this is pretty vague as to what actually happened. Seems like something is being left out.

IF a CCL employee was a fault for dropping the plates that caused the injury then YES IMO you should receive some compensation and it should be offered without you asking for it... BUT... if a passengers child pulled on some plates then the child's parents would be the ones responsible for the injury.

Yep....GREAT suggestions and were CCL to take the high road, either would have been an excellent response and token of good will.

OP, I get that you are upset your son and fiance's first cruise resulted in an injury that put a damper on their trip. If it was my kids, I would be bummed for them.

On the other hand, an accident is exactly that, an accident. Carnival didn't act negligently to cause the injury. The ship crew/staff did show a level of care by taking the girl to the infirmary for treatment, which apparently was free. Normally, it would not be free when someone is accidently injured.

It would be a very nice gesture if Carnival were to offer some additional compensation. However, it isn't reasonable to expect it. Carnival did what needed to be done, and did it free of charge, and to them the event is over. It is not the fault of the cruise ship company that some 5 year old dropped a plate and its father didn't care.

From a business standpoint, the company can't be handing out free cruises or $200 credits to everyone that gets an injury beyond their control.

yeah in no way have I ever seen glass plates on the Lido anywhere. That being said, if you do want compensation than involve a lawyer, I do not see Carnival handing out compensation for such an incident. With 5,000 peeps on board stuff will happen. If they set a premise for compensating for these types of things I can see 2,000 people dropping plates all over the place!

It is very dissapointing I'm sure. But like most have stated accidents do happen.

And only 1 person has mentioned the vacation guarantee about leaving from the first port. If you know the rest of the trip is not going to live up to expectations in this case, because of injury, they should have invoked that right and got the Compensation in that form.

Had a lady on our cruise in April on the Victory that broke her ankle at the second port. In a wheelchair the rest of the trip.

Accident in port!!

If the cruise line would have confined the OP's future DIL in her cabin for the duration of the cruise then compensation should have been awarded. But the only thing the girl missed on board was swimming in the pool and if the weather is bad (not a fault of the cruise line) lots of people miss the pool. And, what happens at ports-of-call is not a cruise guarantee...in fact missing a port is not a reason to get a refund.

And getting a nusance 50 bucks. Well times that my 2000 passengers and figure out what that will do for the cost of someone else's next cruise.

This. I can see sending a note and someone checking on them. If you give money, free dinner, (Only one? But there are 2 of us! I can hear it now.) you will have every scammer in the free world looking for a handout. Not saying that is the OP's son, just saying what will happen if it starts.

No, this mindset is the problem with this country...it's YOUR fault!!! Watch where your walking, be responsible for your own self.

As to your situation, you have failed to describe her injuries. It sounds like they were very minor, and she chose not to swim on her own accord....just as if she cut herself shaving. In that case, Gillette needs to pay up

I can't ever remember seeing glass plates or cups on the Lido deck. I am so sorry this happened but I see the "sorry" as the only good will gesture she should have been given. Compensation--no! She was not able to use the pool and wants something for that. How many times have you gone to a hotel and found the pool closed for one reason or another? I don't think any one would be asking for their money back.

My response to you after your also felt it necessary to put this on Johns facebook page was and is still the same...

Lenny, It seems to me like Carnival did all they could to help your future daughter in law by sending her to the infirmary and taking care of her cuts... Accidents do happen but I don't see what else you want from Carnival.
