My spouse and I are scheduled to sail on a S class ship in a few weeks.we are after final payment date and if we cancel we will lose dollars.we have read disturbing posts about the high cost of alcoholic drinks--the lack of trays at the buffet --the lowering of the quality of the food inthe MDR--which causes many to spend $80 or so to eat a satisfactory meal at a specialty venue. many have complaned that the tea assortment is not up to snuffand no kettle is allowed.accordingly--we will bring our own loose teas.and use hot water from theMDR guessing that the MDR only provides sodium chloride to sprinkle on their bland food we will bring an assortment of gourmet sea salts from France -Ireland and Italy. No review has discussed the quality of the butter that is served in the MDR. We assume that it is the dreadful supermarket stuff loaded with sodium chloride. Janet Napalitano did not answer my e-mail asking to bring Dry Ice on my flight to FCO.How else will we be able to keep our assortment of gourmet butters from France, Belgium, and Denmark from turning rancid.Would you cancel or tough it out?? Thanks for your help

My wife and I just Cruised the Panama Canal on Millennium. From what I understand, all Celebrity ships have the same menus in the main dinning room. We were very satisfied with almost all dinners and the service was very good as well. The food in the buffet wasn't anything to write home about with the exception of the eggs Benedict that were very good.

As for the beverages, I believe they were less expensive than I'd expect to pay in most bars or restaurants. Consider purchasing one of the drink packages, we did and I haven't done the math yet to see if it actually penciled out but having the all inclusive experience and no receipts to sign made it worth it to me.

Take the cruise and have a great time!

Not ANOTHER thread about the butter! The butter used by Celebrity is perfectly fine, however, if you have specific butter needs, you may bring up to two pounds of any butter you choose, however, should you chose to consume it in your stateroom you will be charged a $10.00 "spreading fee".

Dont the suites come with a butter menu? Maybe instead of canceling you should upgrade!

Real butter is ony served in the Specialty Restaurants. They use lower quality substitute in the MDR. Ateast that's what has been reported by people who have never taken a Celebrity cruise.

You should cancel the cruise quickly! The other passengers will thank you.

flightguy: Cancel please. You should cancel the cruise quickly! The other passengers will thank you.

Funny stuff. Seriously' date=' we found things on the Solstice for food, etc., to be fine. There were little things we could be picky about, but, overall, it worked fine and I didn't go hungry, nor miss any meals.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio[/font']

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 107,698 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

My spouse and I are scheduled to sail on a S class ship in a few weeks (hard to believe you are married). We are after final payment date and if we cancel we will lose dollars. We have read disturbing posts about the high cost of alcoholic drinks (honestly, I think you could use a drink or two) --the lack of trays at the buffet (you eat at the buffet?) --the lowering of the quality of the food in the MDR--which causes many to spend $80 or so to eat a satisfactory meal at a specialty venue (time for another one of those drinks). Many have complained that the tea assortment is not up to snuff and no kettle is allowed. Accordingly--we will bring our own loose teas and use hot water from the MDR (try bringing your own kettle - I have seen “kettle runners” being sold on line for people just like you) guessing that the MDR only provides sodium chloride to sprinkle on their bland food we will bring an assortment of gourmet sea salts from France -Ireland and Italy (I am sure you are aware of the “Italian salt tax” implemented in the US after WWII, be prepared to pay the tax) . No review has discussed the quality of the butter that is served in the MDR (all butter comes from cows). We assume that it is the dreadful supermarket stuff loaded with sodium chloride. Janet Napalitano did not answer my e-mail asking to bring Dry Ice on my flight to FCO. Even if you are allowed to bring the dry ice, butter is considered a “liquid” by Homeland Security (like lotion or lipstick), so unless you are bringing 3 oz or less, better order your butter on board from the new “butter butlers” How else will we be able to keep our assortment of gourmet butters from France, Belgium, and Denmark from turning rancid. Celebrity has instituted a new “butter package” which would allow you to order any butter off the butter menu for one low daily rate …..and you could eat all the butter you want! Go on a real butter binge. Would you cancel (probably best to cancel) or tough it out?? I don’t think you are the type to tough anything out. Thanks for your help

:D - ok, I admit I had fun with that

We are deliberately sailing on an S class in December because of all the negatives you mentioned as well as others.

We figure that if the cruise is (hopefully) horrible, it will make all the other places we are for the other 50 weeks next year seem so much more enjoyable.

Happy Sails to You

Yep, it's such a privilege to do laundry when you get home from a Celebrity cruise because you've had to abstain for so many days. I just love it. keeps me from thinking about how bad the cruise was.

Thanks OP for the interesting thread and for all the jokes, people. I needed this today. DH is in surgery.
