wally8 Posted November 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Is there much of a weather difference between leaving on Jan 25 and Feb for a partial Panama Cruise? I have never been in that region thus the question. I really appreciate your help. Bob

iriemon Posted November 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 We have been there a couple of times, doesn't matter when you go, plan on hot, humid, and possible rain. You will enjoy it, it is one of our favorites. Don't forget to get up early for some Panama rolls.

Krazy Kruizers Posted November 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Since you are doing only a partial Panama Cruise, you won't be anchored long enough to have to worry about the heat and humidity. We are always up early. The approach can start as early as 5:30 -- it all depends on the traffic going through the locks. You usually anchor around 9:30 - 10 AM in Gatun Lake where those taking shore excursions take the tendors to the shore where the buses are waiting for them. Then anywhere from 1 - 2 PM, the ship gets back in line to go back out the locks. And the Panama Buns are so good.
tropicbird Posted November 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2012 No. Both are during the "dry" season. It might still rain, but generally not like the downpours during the wet (or as the tourist companies like to call "green" season).

iriemon Posted November 19, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Would there be any difference in getting there from fort lauderdale? Bob Not sure what you are asking, but we did it out of FLL twice and it was great.

wally8 Posted November 19, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted November 19, 2012 What I meant to ask was, would the seas be rougher leaving Fort Lauderdale on Jan 25 vs. Feb 25. My wife gets very seasick. Thanks again for your responses. Bob

Thanks again for your responses. Bob Not so much leaving Ft Lauderdale but can be kind of rough coming back out of the locks going east bound. iriemon Posted November 20, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 20, 2012 We have had rough seas and we have had calm seas, it all depends on what weather is in the area. I think that is true of anytime you go.

Thanks again for your responses. Bob I really don't think there's any way of knowing that. We've cruised out of Ft Lauderdale more times than I can remember just off the top of my head from January through April and I'd say it's not too rough but it can be. I don't think a 30-day window is going to make much difference one way or the other and you'll only know how it will be the afternoon you sail. As for the weather in Panama that time of year I'd say warm and humid but then again we live in San Antonio and we're used to warm and humid so it wasn't all that different or uncomfortable for us. One cruise we were with friends from Oregon and they were suffering and we hardly noticed.
