Seling Elite Coupons

Orator

Recommended Posts

I guess the "gift" that was given to the cruiser wasn't completely used and he thought maybe someone else could use them and he could make a profit.

Once Celebrity give them to him, they belong to him and he can dispose of them as he so chooses....don't think there is anything in the terms that precludes it. Whether it is "right" is in the eye of the beholder.....he apparently didn't think it was wrong.

Anybody else wonder if they do any sort of cross checking to notice that a non-elite passenger is potentially using elite coupons?

Just wondering if that's even allowed - or if they dont care at all about it.

That said, I dont think I'd stoop to the level of selling my unused coupons but well, if he sells them, good for him. Can't imagine they are worth the 30 he's charging, though, are they? lol

Orator, the RC board was recently speculating on a comment by Adam Goldstein. Looks like there is a plan to do away with the loyalty coupons, and pre-load the Crown & Anchor perks onto your SeaPass Card. If Celebrity follows suit, there would be no coupons to sell -- except old ones for "memorabilia" purposes.

I would think there would be some checks and balances with regard to Elite coupons. You are supposed to put your name and stateroom number on the back of the coupon. If used by a non-Elite/Stateroom, they would charge the seapass for the services, whether it be free dry cleaning/laundry, or the internet free 90 minutes.

Once I used an extra free laundry coupon we had from a prior cruise as we were on a TA plus pre-cruise days and needed the extra laundry. Used the 2 we got for that cruise + the one extra, and they didn't say anything.

Just wonder if the laundry/dry cleaning service is outsourced so Celebrity has to pay the provider for the cleaning coupon???

Interesting idea.

I know that folks from Celebrity monitor these boards. My original post may be considered a message to them. If Celebrity feels that the sale of coupons is illegal or violates their policies they can stop it by simply contacting eBay and other online sellers. If it is not illegal or a violation of policy then we're all free to do what we wish. I don't know the answer.

While I understand that the coupons are designed to be a perk for you, what is the problem with selling them?

If the desired result is to encourage you to use their services, ie, buy internet minutes and get some free, or get a percentage off on a spa visit, why would Celebrity care who uses them? I know that some TAs offer coupons books as a perk. What's the difference?

Seems like he's asking a lot, impossible to tell from the shabby photo which coupons are actually there... I ain't interested.

FWIW he's also selling a ANA All Nippon Airlines DREAMLINER Boeing 787 Safety Card. Classy.

A just noticed a listing on eBay for Elite coupons. Seller asking $29.95. Anyone else have a problem with this?

He doesn't actually say they're Elite"coupons, only that he's selling "an envelope containing free Captain's Club coupons that offer discounts to bingo, wine, laundry, and photos. ""

If they were Elite coupons the laundry wouldn't be a discount, it be for free laundry.

IMHO the problem with selling them is that people can pay to receive benefits that they have not earned and therefore are not entitled to receive. It costs Celebrity money when people who are not entitled to use them use them as they are getting something for free or at a discounted price. This represents a loss of revenue to Celebrity. You can be certain that the benefits will be reduced or eliminated if Celebrity feels that they are just not worth the cost. This could impact all cruisers.

The TA coupons are issued by some TAs as an incentive to book with them. Most, if not all these coupons require the user to purchase something. Most coupons are for the Spa. The Elite coupons are earned through LOYALTY. The most valuable coupons do not require a purchase. These include internet minutes and laundry. These are just some of the differences.

They are clearly "Elite" coupons. But,wouldn't put it past them to try to sell expired elite hour coupons as well. Ultimately the buyer must be aware.

Hi Ariawoman,

Add me to the list of tacky, tacky LOL :)

I'm fairly confident that Celebrity checks to see if a member using an Elite coupon, is in fact Elite, or if they are using extra coupons (i.e. more than 1 laundry or internet coupon per sailing). I'm certain we've seen posts from members who were not Elite, and were given coupons. They reported that the coupon was denied.

The bottom line ? I wouldnt waste my time attempting any of this. I'm on vacation. Who needs the chance of getting caught, and facing the wrath of Celebrity. Not me.

Sale or transfer of any coupons is not allowed - this is printed on the back of every coupon. I'm sure Celebrity has some sort of loss prevention program to prevent this just as any retail business has loss prevention in place to deter shoplifters even though it may or may not detect every occurrence of this. I sure wouldn't want to be caught either selling my coupons or using a coupon I wasn't entitled to.

Do you think they could be elite drinks coupons? :(

The happy hour drink vouchers are only used on a very limited number of cruises. Also, they are dated with a specific day they are for and are not good on any other day.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I remember reading on here that some were giving them away if they didn't use them. I didn't know they were daily vouchers.

It never fails to amaze me what people will do to save/make money. :(

Still sorting paperwork from our NY cruise and have unused elite coupons. They state: "One offer per coupon per CC Elite Member. Valid for pre-enrolled members only."

"Nontransferable." "Valid for this sailing only. No cash value."

This precludes selling or giving them to someone else.

Thanks for the information LSimon! Since we aren't even Classic yet, we don't have coupons.

I'm not sure what the attraction is tho. There are some laundry coupons and internet minutes that you get for free, but except for the pressing for formal nights, we'd not use them.

The "value" of these coupons doesn't seem to be more than mes asking. He may not get any takers!

Gee....I have a coupon book for a lot of local places I get in the mail from time to time: 20% off on Pizza, 50% off on dry cleaning, discounts on tires, vent cleaning, blinds and all sorts of similar stuff. I wonder if I can sell these on eBay too!

It would be so great if they would do this sort of thing. It would save a ton of paper (probably literally) and I can't tell you how many times we've gone out to do something like bingo and forgot the coupons back in the room. I always go back to get them, but wouldn't it be nice if they were just tied to your card. This is a super idea IMO.

There's nothing new in this kind of thing. Indeed if it's the same seller that I found earlier then the coupons are no longer listed. Perhaps they read this thread or someone reported them.

Looking at their other listings they do seem to have a penchant for items taken from airlines including headphones, plates and cutlery. I have a great Virgin Atlantic Airlines cruet set that has "Pinched from Virgin Atlantic" stamped on the bottom, but it was actually given to me by one of the cabin crew with their blessing and it won't be appearing on eBay unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse. Anyone interested? LOL

This was on the Azamara message board a little while ago and they are still there. Azamara slippers anyone?
