melb1988 Posted January 16, 2014 #276 Share Posted January 16, 2014 I've always wanted an exact replica that can be used as a hotel/museum but doesn't actually function as a moving cruise ship. I'm such a titanic/liner buff and I've always wanted to walk her decks, sit in her public rooms and stay in her cabins. Do I need to travel on her? No. With today's laws, there's no point in making a replica that actually moves.. Too many adjustments need to be made that takes it further away from being 'a replica' and further more, making it suit today's market by adding things like casinos is just stupid. Clive even said that he will be supplying the 1912 clothing for passengers to wear? So your saying that each stateroom will have multiple outfits and various sizes in the wardrobes for everyone to wear? Yeah right! Like that's ever going to work or happen. He should just build a static replica and place it somewhere. Belfast would have been perfect! That's my 2cents :)
turquoise 6 Posted January 16, 2014 #277 Share Posted January 16, 2014 Thank you. After reading additional online articles/videos she will be escorted out of China with the Chinese Navy, escorted into England with the English Navy and then into NY with the US Navy. Why all the escorts- fear it might sink? After the maiden voyage I assume she will be doing a regular crossing schedule. I wonder what Cunard is thinking in terms of competition? Well be honest. The original Titanic was built In Ireland and England. And you are worried about China?
turquoise 6 Posted January 16, 2014 #278 Share Posted January 16, 2014 Even supposing Mr Salmond win his referendum on independence in 2014, I do not believe that there will have been time to establish an English Navy before Titanic II (assuming it ever gets built) arrives in Soton. J never assume :o
Rare Smokeyham Posted February 27, 2014 #279 Share Posted February 27, 2014 I wonder if the Blue Star Line has given any thought to doing something akin to Princess' Bon Voyage Experience (BVE) for Titanic II If you are not familiar with this, you can pay US$39 and go on board for about four hours to explore the ship. It is only done on embarkation day, and only for selected sailings. The experience includes lunch served in a Main Dining Room, a glass of wine, and a souvenir photograph. For Titanic II they could probably charge a bit more, and include some souvenirs. Princess uses the BVE as a marketing tool, and it would be interesting to do this on Titanic II, and then ask participants about their responses to seeing the ship and whether that made them more, or less, inclined to sail on her. Titanic 2 doesn't look like it will get off the drawing board. It's main financial backer is reportedly having financial difficulties.

Rare BlueRiband Posted February 28, 2014 #283 Share Posted February 28, 2014 Deltamarine (navel architects) state on their blog that the general arrangements are being finalized and some replica staterooms are to be built for display. The Blue Star Line website however has had no updates since last October.
Rare Smokeyham Posted February 28, 2014 #284 Share Posted February 28, 2014 I wonder if the Blue Star Line has given any thought to doing something akin to Princess' Bon Voyage Experience (BVE) for Titanic II..... After posting the above, I ran across this article, from March, 2013: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10263892.Titanic_II__public_tours_when_berthed_in_Southampton/?ref=arc In it Dr. Palmer says that he will have tours when the ship is in port, and he says "I think we could handle up to 10,000 visitors every day she is in port at Southampton and New York." Not sure how you would handle that many people, AND have disembarkation, clean up, and embarkation of new passengers. Of course, if the project is running into financial difficulties, then this all a moot point.

Not sure how you would handle that many people, AND have disembarkation, clean up, and embarkation of new passengers. Of course, if the project is running into financial difficulties, then this all a moot point. It's just about impossible to do that with a 10-hr turn around as is typical when QM2 is in New York. On the NY end the ship has to first be cleared of all non-crew members before they are allowed to embark passengers. (US Homeland Security policy, not Cunard's.) I think the old QE2 had a 2-3 day turn around in her early years but that kept getting shorter due to both high port charges and the revenue need to keep her moving. But as you said, it's a moot point if his project goes the way of previous Titanic II proposals. Nothing official has come from Blue Star Line since October when they linked a video of the model basin testing on their web site.

Looking at their web site, there still seems to be some effort to put things on Twitter, but nothing beyond that. Mr. Palmer's other interests seem to be in real trouble: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/clive-palmer-sacks-half-the-staff-at-coolum-dinosaur-resort/story-fn59niix-1226821127649# http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g257475-d257730-r191545373-Palmer_Coolum_Resort-Coolum_Beach_Sunshine_Coast_Queensland.html
Austcruiser84 Posted March 1, 2014 #287 Share Posted March 1, 2014 It won't be built. And even if it was the plans to make it creature comfort (Internet/Tv) free, and to impose strict 'class' divisions would ultimately lead to unprofitability. The novelty would wear off soon enough and Titanic 2 would be laid up, or re-designed as a floating hotel / theme park attraction. Anyway, as I said before, it won't be built. It's not off the drawing board and there is nothing out of China. Construction was meant to have started already and it's clear that isn't happening. Cunard can rest easy. Titanic 2, true to its namesake, sank before reaching New York.

I always at least a few times a week check out the facebook page of the Blue Star Line and there really has not been any updates about when the construction of Titanic II is about to start. Remember going back to about 12 years ago when Cunard started construction of the QM2, Cunard always had updates on the progress of QM2's construction. Not so concerning the Blue Star Line giving information about the progress or really lack of progress concerning the Titanic II. If the Blue Star Line really wants people to think about the Titanic II it would be in their best interests to let people know that construction starts on a particular date and also to give people updates during Titanic II's construction just like Cunard did during QM2's construction. I agree with Austcruiser84 that the Titanic II is NOT happening, and that Clive Palmer in my opinion just talked about building Titanic II to get cheap publicity in order to get elected to the Australian Parliament which is a very sleazy thing to do in my opinion. Even if Titanic II were built the Queen Mary 2 would still be my favorite ship. Regards,Jerry Edited March 1, 2014 by Cruise Liner Fan

I'd argue he's spread himself too thin.

No recent updates on the BSL website but Palmer tweeted a link to a Feb 27th interview with Michelle Grattan (Australian political commentator). In the last 30 seconds of an audio interview (at 20:48) he claims that some replica staterooms are being built now into July. Keel laying in China in September. (Believe all of it, part of it, or none of it - I'm just quoting the man.)
