wndmom Posted February 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I've read that some ships offer laundry services (1 bag or $25). Does the Navigator offer this service? How many $1 should I carry for tips? I anticipate using room service at least once per day. It's my husband, myself, and three boys. Not sure what else I'd need to tip for. When can we embark? We are driving to NOLA tomorrow and will be there to board early. We haven't decided whether to leave the ship in Jamaica or not. We thought about doing the hilton rose hill Jamaica for a day excursion. Is this something I can do at the last minute? Any help is much appreciated! Regarding embarkation, if there are no delays with the previous cruise, they should start boarding between 11am and 11:30am.
39august Posted February 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I believe you have to make arrangements with the Hilton before your cruise. Figure a $2 tip every time you use room service. If the order is quite large, a bit more. All ships that I have cruised, and that is most of them, offer the $25 laundry bag on a 7 night cruise. It is only for underwear, jammies, socks, t-shirts, etc. Nothing that needs pressing.
wndmom Posted February 28, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Thanks for the quick responses! I haven't begun the packing process yet, and glad to know I can cut back on some things.
johneeo Posted February 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2013 How many $1 should I carry for tips? You can never have too many. I usually take 100 one dollar bills and a bunch of 5's, 10s, 20's and 100's. What I do not spend always comes back with me.
Ambiverol Posted February 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I used to take a large amount of small bills. Now, I take a medium amount of small bills. Once the ship is underway, I can turn large bills into anything I need in the casino-at the bill breaking machine or cage. No need to gamble a penny. For me, it's easier this way. 39august Posted February 28, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 28, 2013 You can also get change at Guest Relations. I do it a lot as I don't like to carry a lot of small bills.
cruisenfever Posted February 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I've read that some ships offer laundry services (1 bag or $25). Does the Navigator offer this service? Yes The Wash & Fold Special is available fleet wide and the things that you can include are pajamas, socks, shorts, swimwear, t-shirts and underwear. Things will come back washed and folded only. If you need an additional bag, you can always ask your cabin attendant.
aftop Posted February 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 28, 2013 I only took one suit on a 7 day Voyager cruise and after the first formal night it needed cleaning prior to the second formal night. Room attendant took the suit and some laundry and it was returned next day cleaned and pressed.

You can stuff quite a bit in the bag but don't put in anything that can't be washed at high temperatures.... and the garments WILL be creased..... We only include my hubby's novelty T-shirts and underwear and everything has always come back neatly folded looking just like they do when I wash them at home. :p
wndmom Posted February 28, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Another question. How do the teens dress in the teen club? My son wants to take nike shirts and shorts, but I'm concerned that he might not be dressed up enough.
Beth C Posted March 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Since you're driving to the ship just take what you need - don't bother with the laundry services... I wish I had that option! Instead i'm checking a 2nd suitcase for $35 which will give me 50lbs worth of extra clothes to last me the 16 days lol

No fees to carry suitcases on board the ship. The other poster was talking about airline baggage fees.

wndmom Posted March 1, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted March 1, 2013 With five of us, we will run out of room in the car. Trying to keep to the minimum. Also, I don't want to buy enough underwear, shirts, and pajamas to last all week for three boys. In case my last question was missed, Does anyone know about dress in the teen club?
