Is the Caribbean Princess doing the Summer Caribbean itinerary out of NYC in 2014?

We will need to wait about three weeks or so until Princess releases the CBs Summer 2014 schedule to TAs to see what routes she will be sailing to the Caribbean.

We've done the Golden and Star. Interesting that the Grand will be here next summer. I wonder if it will do the Glacier Bay route.

The Golden will include Glacier Bay on her Inside Passage cruises while the Grand will include Tracy Arm.

What are the differences between the Golden/Star and the Grand? Any big reason to want (or not want) to give it a try?

The Grand was obviously the first Grand class ship that culminated in the Crown/Emerald/Ruby. The Grand and Golden were essentially twins and the Star started the first of the modifications to the class. They have all been modified significantly during drydocks in the last several years. Some significant (or not so significant) differences:

 

• Golden and Star still have the "shopping cart handle" Skywalkers while the Grand now has the Club one5
  
• Star has a Thermal Suite
  
• Grand and Golden have Window Suites
  
• Grand has an Alfredo's Pizzeria
  
• Vines on Golden and Star serve sushi and tapas
  
• Golden has suites aft on the Sun deck

Probably not worth sacrificing Glacier Bay just in order to try Alfredo's. ;)

I am anxious to see what the itinerary will be for the Star with having the extra day. This year some for cruises include Glacier Bay, some are for Tracy Arm.

 

Maybe with the extra day it will be Hubbard Glacier!!! included with Glacier Bay (a girl can dream)

 

A full day in Victoria would be nice too (right now it is a few hours.

Doesn't seem the place for a ship that's been built for warm water cruising.

The current 10 day itinerary from San Francisco includes a full day in Victoria.

 

Actually it isn't a full day. We are booked on the Grand for May 2013. It is nice tho that we get daytime hours instead of nighttime hours. We are there from 7 am to 2 pm. So basically about 4 or 5 real hours in town. I've seen a couple itineraries (other cruise lines) that have had stops in Victoria literally all day ... like from 8 am to 8 pm. That's what I am hoping for, but not a deal breaker by any means.

 

We wondered too if by moving the Star to San Francisco if it would just stay there year round afterwards. Will be interesting to see.

Caribill ... Thank you. Anxiously waiting to see the itineraries posted on Princess. this did help tho and I appreciate the posting. I always like to see the hours in port etc.

 

When we leave from San Francisco this May ... it is 2 sea days before Juneau. Coming home it is one sea day after Victoria. Wonder if they will just add in an extra sea day at the end. Still hoping for that full day in Victoria

I am anxious to see what the itinerary will be for the Star with having the extra day. This year some for cruises include Glacier Bay, some are for Tracy Arm.

 

Maybe with the extra day it will be Hubbard Glacier!!! included with Glacier Bay (a girl can dream)

 

A full day in Victoria would be nice too (right now it is a few hours.

 

Any idea on the 11 day itinerary for the Star?????

I'm a bit mystified by that, myself. I wonder what the rationale is? I don't think I can recall an instance of a little girl doing exactly the same itinerary as a big girl. It'll be interesting to see the pricing. I adore smaller ships but . . . While no doubt Vancouver is a wonderful city, it'd have to be gobsmackingly awesome to justify the usual price differential of little girl v. big girl, given the identical itinerary out of Seattle.

Interestingly enough, pricing for the Pacific is about the same or slightly higher than the Golden and Grand. Might be a good time to given one of the Little Girls a try.

piper28 - if you're interested in a true 14 day Alaska itinerary with no repeat ports, consider the 2014 sailings of HAL Amsterdam. I sailed it in 2010 and 2011; an amazing itinerary! They took it away for 2013, but we were pleased to see it is coming back for 2014 - itinerary just released last Wednesday.

 

It includes the little visited by a cruiseship ports of Anchorage (yup, right up Cook Inlet to the city itself for a full day - 7AM-11PM), Kodiak (awesome port stop - you'll see why it is called the Emerald Isle), and Homer (fell in love with this little drinking town with a fishing problem;)).

 

This itinerary also includes scenic glacier sailing days of Hubbard Glacier and Tracy Arm (in 2010, it was Hubbard and Glacier Bay, that has since changed).

 

The other ports include the "usual suspects" of Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka (beautiful, non-touristy port if you've never been there before), Icy Strait Point (in 2010, it was Skagway), and a full day in Victoria, BC.

 

Really unique itinerary, on a smaller HAL ship (I believe the Amsterdam carries approx. 1400 passengers). It is a wonderful trip - as I said, I'm going for my trifecta in 2014:D, I enjoyed it THAT much! Something to consider!

It actually is gobsmackingly awesome. And in Seattle (also a beautiful city) versus Vancouver comparisons, Vancouver sailings experience the gorgeous Inside Passage. Worth any extra $$$ to me.

Thanks for the advance info on these, I'm considering Alaska for next year and like the idea of the R/T from Vancouver on Pacific this makes planning of flights pre/post cruise stays etc alot easier considering the cost of air from the UK.

There is apparently a five day opening between the end of her Panama Canal cruise ending in LA on May 16th and her first Alaskan cruise departing Vancouver on May 21. Perhaps they will schedule a short coastal cruise with a stop in Victoria or Nanaimo?

My husband and I have seriously been thinking about an Alaska cruise or Cruisetour for our 20th Anniversary in 2014.

 

From what I've read a lot of people suggest Princess is the line to cruise Alaska with.

You're right - great itinerary, but quite pricey! The Verandah suite (their equivalent to a Princess minisuite) costs $1,580pp more than the 14 day Alaska in Princess mini ($4,299 HAL vs. $2,719 Princess).
