Retiring cajun Posted December 1, 2013 #51 Share Posted December 1, 2013 I have a question about smoking areas on royal princess. I am a non-smoker! Does anyone know if there is a smoking area on promenade deck forward and starboard? Seems like someone had mentioned it. I have E117. I certainly want to change our rooms if smoking area is right below our balcony. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Typically, on Princess ships, any on-deck smoking areas are only on the Port side of the ship, where allowed. I spent time reading on the forward Starboard side Promenade deck a couple of times during our cruise, and did not see any smokers there, nor any ashtrays. I paid special attention to this as we have booked a Starboard Emerald Deck cabin right above the forward Promenade deck area on the Regal next year. As a side note, I poked my head out onto the Port side Promenade deck areas, but honestly do not recall whether there were ashtrays or whether smoking was permitted there. But, you should not have any difficulty in a Starboard side cabin. Hope that helps put your mind at ease. :)

boca7 Posted December 5, 2013 #54 Share Posted December 5, 2013 it seems to affect only the aft balconies. We sailed with a friend who was in r728, which is the last balcony cabin on the side of the ship before the corner suite, and he reported no issue whatsoever. We heard the same from others on side balcony cabins. We also did not notice the problem when sitting in the horizon terrace area on the lido deck, aft. we also had 3 cabins on same cruise as you riviera rear & no soot, riviera aft has no privacy at all. I got a eyefull when i looked down..wow..

Sent from my ipad using tapatalk less smoking areas on this ship, as lido deck is serving food on a many areas of lido deck. Where you may have a problem is near the casino as it is all open & next to culb 6. Its not too much of a problem now but i was on a carnival in march with the open casino & we had to totally avoid that area, royal may have this problem as it gets older. onebzyldy Posted January 6, 2014 #56 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Just booked this cabin, wondering how *obstructed* it really is? Can anyone help??? Please and thank you ;) Happy Cruising DonnaF :D
madgolfer3 Posted January 6, 2014 #57 Share Posted January 6, 2014 We were in E104. Obstruction was a solid metal panel instead of the normal transparent fiberglass one. The balcony, itself, was almost double the size of the normal balcony--half covered, half uncovered. Overall, a very nice balcony.
puntacana Posted January 6, 2014 #58 Share Posted January 6, 2014 The attached photo is cabin E304 right next door. You should have the same view, just seeing the top of the lifeboat. I booked E321 which had the big lifeboat arm standing in the middle of the balcony. That if fine, at least it is a balcony. Enjoy!
NSCruisenewbie Posted February 12, 2014 #59 Share Posted February 12, 2014 A group of us have booked on the Regal Princess for the Sept 23rd sailing. We are in cabins 608, 606 and 604. From the look of the ship and the pictures here, it would seem that our view would be similar the pictures posted here for stateroom E401 or E512. Does that seem right? We have the option of switching to E437 or E630, which look like they may have the same view as E438 or E701. Can someone confirm this? Or would princess be able to confirm this info for me? This is my first cruise and would like to have a good stateroom.

This is my first cruise and would like to have a good stateroom. We just got off Royal last Sunday and we were in E608. This is probably one of the worst OV Balcony rooms available. We booked Balcony Guarantee and I didn't sweat it when we learned our cabin # about a week before sailing. I saw the photos on this thread and our TA said that the OV was probably due to not being able to look down because of the lifeboats. However... the aft two lifeboats on port side and the aft three boats on the starboard side are not just lifeboats, they are double decker tenders. So the lifeboat is about as tall as your balcony rail and you can't see out while sitting on the balcony. I can't really complain because we paid cheap $$ for this cabin. Past cruises that I have booked BG have been winners, but this one came up snake eyes. That's the risk you take. I recently booked BE and haven't received a cabin assignment yet - luckily that category is not obstructed. Glad you posted these pics for future reference. NSCruisenewbie Posted February 15, 2014 #63 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Your only obstruction would be the "angle" of your balcony! there is no lifeboat in front of e428! Here is a photo of e438! http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/data/518/IMG_3107_-1.jpg I just booked stateroom E437 on the Regal Princess. Do you think my view will be the same as the one in this pic? CruiseWookiee Posted February 15, 2014 #64 Share Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) I just booked stateroom E437 on the Regal Princess. Do you think my view will be the same as the one in this pic? I think you're going to be fine. E437 will be above the starboard promenade area. You may see a bit of a launch that is mounted just aft of the promenade deck. But that is much smaller than a life boat. This is from the port side, but should be the same. E436 is above where the people are sitting. On the other side of that divider. johnfas Posted February 17, 2014 #68 Share Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) We were upgraded to E409 and I think we had one of the largest balconies on the ship. As you can see the outside picture ours is the one that comes to the outer most point. The balcony is huge. Normal balcony is about half this size. We paid for a category BY partially obstructed and when they gave us this room it did say obstructed but as you can see absolutely NO obstruction. When I checked into the category and priced this cabin it is in the upper tier, so you will pay more. But if you want a great spot (center of ship) and large balcony this is the one. I did some further checking and any room between 407 and 425 (same for other side I suppose) you will get a larger balcony and no obstruction. By the way, we had a simply wonderful cruise. Check out my review on cruise critic. Edited February 17, 2014 by johnfas

CruiseWookiee Posted February 28, 2014 #73 Share Posted February 28, 2014 Has anyone stayed in cabin E511? Wondering how much of an obstruction it has. Thanks You'll be in the middle of a life boat, not a tender. Go to post #24 on this thread and someone has a picture of cabin E512 posted. That will be your OV. E512 is the mirror image of E511 on the port side.
