Miracle: Skipped Grand Turk, Rumors of Noro and Delayed Sailing

Ruby Princess is in Nassau today...Not scheduled to be there, should be a sea day and FLL tomorrow. But she was supposed to be in GT yesterday, and I'm wondering if they cancelled that and substituted Nassau. Nothing on the Princess board but a query as to why she is in Nassau.

A search of the roll call says they missed GT and went to Nassau instead.

And this from the March 17 roll call, from a passenger currently onboard Ruby:

"The captain announced today that we will not be stopping in Grand Turk. He stated that there was some suspicion that the illness aboard the previous sailing may have originated from food and drinks consumed there that day. We will stop instead in Nassau, Bahamas on Saturday. I don't know what will happen on the March 17 cruise, as far as Grand Turk is concerned. "EM

Lol Ruby has had Noro since Europe.

The below was on the Princess board about Ruby skipping Turk and went to Nassau in its place.

Edit: Opps, missed that this was already posted.

A quote from the March 17 roll call for Ruby, from a person on current cruise:

CARNIVAL MIRACLE

MARCH 16, 2013

Hi there!

Betcha can't wait for your cruise tomorrow, which is why we want to provide you with some important information regarding our itinerary plans for your sailing on the Carnival Miracle.

During the last week there has been an increase in reported cases of gastroenteritis among cruise ship guests following their visit to Grand Turk. Affected passengers were sailing aboard the ships of multiple cruise lines and include guests from the Carnival Miracle's current cruise.

Although not confirmed, we are investigating whether there may be a link with consumption of food and beverages while guests were ashore in Grand Turk.

Therefore, in an abundance of caution and because the well-being of our guests is our highest priority, various cruise lines, including ours, have cancelled calls to Grand Turk and are continuing to monitor the situation while the cause of the illnesses is being determined.

We know you were looking forward to visiting Grand Turk and apologize we are unable to deliver the itinerary you were expecting. Unfortunately, there are no other viable port alternatives for us.

Pre-purchased shore excursions for Grand Turk, as well as a refund of the government fees and taxes, will be automatically refunded to your Sail & Sign account.

We have also implemented extensive additional cleaning and sanitizing procedures aboard in accordance with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Therefore, boarding will run behind schedule while we get things ready for your arrival. Rest assured, we are committed to doing everything possible to safeguard the health of our guests and crew.

To ensure a smooth embarkation experience, check-in for your cruise is now scheduled from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM and sailing is set for 6:00 PM. For your comfort and convenience, and since seating is limited in the cruise terminal, we ask that you please not arrive before 2:30 PM.

Thank you for your understanding. Once again, we're very sorry for this change and truly regret the disruption to your vacation plans.

More importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard the beautiful Carnival Miracle for a FUN and memorable cruise.

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Vicky Rey, CTC

Vice President - Guest Services

Just got off the ship and almost everyone in our party got sick...i was in the casino on wed sitting next to a woman who was telling everyone how she got sick on the night after we left grand turk and that the doctor told her they knew there was a problem with GT. She was quarantined for 3 days and wed was the first day they let her out of her cabin. ironically they did not quarantine her husband?????

that night i became very ill and spent all of thursday in bed. the lady and husband in the cabin next to us were quarantined (but nobody told us) and on thursday night my wife became very ill. we basically spent the last 3 days of the cruise in the room. others in our group were also very sick. while we did get off at GT, we only had bottled water and did not eat anything. in the medical office were anumber of people making simliar complaints and although the seas were rough, there were many more complaints towards the end of the cruise. also at GT when you got back on the boat they had people outside forcing you to use the sanitizer, but not at other ports???

In all my years of cruising, i have never gotten "sea Sick" and i did not eat anything out of the norm for me. we sailed on the miracle before and had wonderful time. i feel the crew could have done more to warn people, but rather they take a "keep quiet and hope" attitude. Live and learn.

I just got off the Breeze today. We didn't go to Grand Turk for the same reason. We were supposed to be there Tuesday morning but we found out on Monday night before dinner that we wouldn't be able to. I really wanted to see Grand Turk but I'm glad they didn't stop there if people are getting sick.

You don't have to eat anything, if it's a noro case and not a food poisoning case. If you touch the wrong thing or get into the swimming pool with a billion other people, etc...

So, if one of the ships was sick and unleashed a bunch of people on the cruise complex there, it's bad news for everyone.

So a bunch of people get sick on the ship, and they put the blame on the island last visited? What odds are greater:

1. All of the sick passengers happened to end up in the same place while on GT & ate bad food or drank bad water at that spot?

2. All of the sick passengers ate something/drank something bad on the ship, or crossed paths/were in proximity with each other on the ship and spread the illness amongst each other.

I guess it COULD be that they got sick from something on Turk, but it sounds far more likely that it was a ship-related illness & CCL is blaming the island to avoid another hit of negative press.

I agree...:eek::eek:

I'm with you on that! They can drop the "D I D J A" as well. For whatever reason they feel this kind of slang is synonymous with "fun" and appeals to the demographic they market to. Maybe it does, I don't know?

Different topic but if you go to the Grand Turk cruise terminal website there is a schedule of the ships to be in port. I was surprised to see that some days there are 2 ships there.

IMO, YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO THERE WHEN THERE ARE 2 ships in port. (unless you wanted to enjoy the ship while others are off) It would be packed and that would not be my idea of fun. I have been there twice and it was very crowded with one ship there.

Please educate me -- I know that I want to go to GC - want to go to 7 mile beach -- if two ships are there - it is crowded for 7 miles?

OR -- is the beach somewhere you cannot go because of time constraints/distance? THANKS! :D

Hopefully, they get this taken care of before Sept. We have 3 ports, grand turk, nassau, and half moon cay. If they should stop going there , this would be a cancellation or change of ship for sure.

Sorry, but Sept.???

Realllly?

for a tummy virus????

I thought I was a worrier!

:confused::confused:

I've been on a cruise to Grand Cayman and I didn't notice any issues with over-crowding at the beach. There is also plenty of time to go to the beach and see other attractions all in one day. It's also very easy to get cabs to take you where ever you want to go. They will all be lined up and hawking for fares in the lot as soon as you set foot on the island..

We were there with the Carnival Victory on March 7th and several members of my party, myself included, ended up sick after we got back home. If it was Noro, it was a fairly mild case thank god. A couple days of throne-sitting, but no fever or throwing up.

The Victory was de-noro'ed the day we left the ship (March 9)

Also, we were at GT along with the Liberty - that island is waaaay too small for 2 ships, everything was PACKED.
