Oceania Acquisition Rumour ???

As in all aspects of life, things change. Companies change, go in and out of business, change ownership, etc. etc. All the savvy consumer can do is research options and make an informed choice at the time they are in the market for a cruise, or any other purchase. What worked for you in the past may need a fresh look in the future. In the meantime, enjoy your next cruise or travel experience to the fullest.

I have been on every cruise line out there except HAL. Every comment I make would only be MY opinion. Why are we tearing Oceania up on this board? Right now it appears to me that they not only have fine, fine management, but they have superior ships and a superior product. Yes, I plan to be very loyal. I have been there and done that on all of them. I guess as the old saying goes, "if people are not talking about you, you are not doing a good job". Well, I guess by the sound of this thread, Oceania is doing a superior job...since most of you seem intent of dragging them down. Right now--their ships are the best--their management is the best--and do I wish for a few changes, yes.l..but it not a decision that is for me to make. Go Oceania--you are doing great!

Every cruise line, Wow! I'm not sure if we will ever want to cruise all of them, but lately we have been experimenting (we just did Windstar). One on our list is Haugan Cruises. I'm assuming you cruised them and would love to hear about it - I've found little about them and am actively looking for as much info as I can find.

I don't think this thread is bashing Oceania. If it does sell, that is not necessarily a bad thing ... it could be a good thing! You just never know until you get that rear view mirror effect.

but DH won't do an expedition type cruise. And, Paulchilli--Costa is owned by Carnival. We tried Carnival MANY years ago when we were deciding if we wanted to cruise (convenient to West Coast). OMG. Forget that now.

As far as NCL is concerned...this is interesting. We VERY FREQUENTLY do Pride of America as it is so very easy for us to take a 5 hour flight, get right on the ship and get right off when the "little" cruise is over. We always do the OS and they treat us very well. As you know it is not overly large. However, we did one of their large ships from Athens to Istanbul with our son and DIL and had the largest suite and he had a Courtyard Suite. They have a Concierge who does absolutely everything for you, including meet with the officials when they come on board. These suites are on a locked floor and on the newer ships I understand they have their own diningrooms, etc. Norwegian is exceptionally friendly if your are going in this manner. Special seats in the theatre and you are escorted off, no lines. It is not as bad as "rumors".

I much prefer Oceania, however we will be taking 8 people to Hawaii in October, once again on Pride of America.

No one cruise line has every part of the world wired for being the best; that's just a reality . For example Holland America and Alaska, NCL and Hawaii. Paul Gaugin, Tahiti.

From the pure perspective of enjoyment, ease and cost effectiveness you can not beat the NCL 7 day around Hawaii.

If you have never been to Hawaii, without a doubt your best possible introduction to the islands is the 7 day cruise which hits ALL the islands in sequence and affords the visitor the opportunity to reach his or her conclusions as to what it is that they like best.

NO internet, guide book, travel advisor or friend can even remotely decide what's right for you. Only you can do that from experience.:o

The ideal introduction would be a 12 to 14 day block where you arrive and start your 7 day exploration. Then during the course of that discovery you decide what and where you would most like to return to. At the end of that 7 days you then go to that place....based of you and your likes not that of another person or opinion.

Too, from the perspective of economy with interisland air fares now hovering one way, ( per island) at $100 to$ 200pp and hotels/condos going for $200+ per night, car rental, food, gas, parking etc etc. You just can not beat the 7 day cruise.... no way

Cruises from the mainland, 14 -15 day omit several islands and experiences . They are not a great value thus, in my opinion.

There are those that argue that you must stay on land ( condo or hotel) to get into the" vibe" and feel of the islands. That is a great urban myth. It sounds good but that dog don't hunt here.

I have been living here for years and it take years not weeks or months to even start to get into "the real" Hawaii. So forget that notion as it is a pipe dream, you as a visitor , even a repeat visitor will not ever even come close. Don't be fooled to think you can either...

Aloha, happy trails and fair winds

On the ship like Norwegian Gem or Pearl--they are three bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths! It was hilarious. My son said we should have just had one suite--but staying with your kid (even though he is very grown) and daughter-in-law is something that is not on my radar. The view was fabulous--unreal. It was nice to have an extra bedroom just to leave suitcases on the bed. And...I didn't have to share the shower! LOL

I am from Hawaii...before it was a state. I agree with you...this cruise is great for newbies. There are two stops for two days, as you know, Kauai and Maui. The Maui port is ugly, but Kauai is lovely, as you know. If a person wants to "get the vibe" they can go early for a few days in Honolulu for the history part. For us from California it is a quick and easy on and off...no overnights. You mentioned above that people who moved from other places to Hawaii eventually left--how about poor old me....wanting to return. Nothing is ever the same though. LOL

These rumoUrs are really a lot of fun to read. Please keep them coming.

Happy to oblige more fun for you. We had a lot of fun on our Oceania cruise, and turn about is fair play. :)

I'm married to an accountant (he he he), and know just how exact you fellas can be. Soooo. I noticed that you spelled "rumor" the British way, and you also used a capital "U". Since you had not capitalized anything else in that word, none of your pinkies were near the shift key. (I am guessing you know your way around a keyboard (it saves time), so I'm tossing the "hunt and peck" system of typing out). So, thinking the capital "U" was intentional....(even if just to throw everyone off)...

...perhaps something British (or Canadian, or Australian, etc.) is going on..

Or something with a prominent "U" such as

... United, Unique, Ultra, Ultimate, Unequalled

Unfounded, Universal, Unknown, Underestimate, Undercover...

I hope this won't cause an uproar, but may we please have some more, sir? (Clues, that is).

(Even if nothing at all is going on whatsoever. The thread—before it went off track—was at least amusing.)

I beg to differ with my Kona friend. NCL America is the PITS. Surprise...and it isn't American built but friends in D.C. got it excempted from passenger Act 0f 1887 so it can cruise between US ports. Oh the moeny that most hae gone into campaign chests. Check the pricing and compare with Princess r/t from California. Not even close. Nor is the menu or ship. Nothing but a ferry.

Bummer, I was hoping I'd finally found someone that had done Haugan Cruises so I could pick their brain. We want to do 14 nights with them with time in Machu Picchu (staying up there - it's not cheap). Bad part? The trip we want to do is the cost of a vehicle.

NCl presently offers the first time visitor seeking Hawaiian discovery the best value, experience and opportunity one can get in these:eek: islands.

No it isn't lux, no it isn't haut, but it is the very best bang for the buck

I have sailed to and around Hawaii several times from Regent Seven Seas Mariner to NCL Star/Jewell. and have to flatly stand firm that the very best experience was on NCL. ( and I had a penthouse on the Mariner)

No other cruise like has the sail plan and the port collection that NCL offers....You can spend a whole lot more and not get better than their 7 day trips.:cool:

I have never had a bad cruise, nor ship as I make each one a pleasure without comparison to another. To do otherwise is folly as to why you you ever chose to travel in the first place.

Clives NEW Titanic is a diversion and the Big Billionare was on one

of the business shows going on about how the Cruise Industry is

American-centric and missing out on the Biggest Middle Classes

in the World.

Young Bernie the Host sort of agreed and started carrying on about

the boring Italian and French Restaurants on Cruise Ships.

After a 10 day experience a couple of years ago in an aft balcony on NCL Jewel that wasn't at all bad, we're trying it again in September, this time aboard Star. We're not in the OS, but we will be in a 406 sq ft suite with the same amenities as the OS. Copenhagen to Norway to the Faroe and Shetland Islands to Reykjavik to Oslo and Helsingborg, then Copenhagen all the way back to Miami. Why? Price. The 12 day crossing from Copenhagen to Miami, in the suite, cost less than plane fare. We base our expectations on price, and NCL exceeds those expectations. Oceania will always be our favorite, and we will always continue to sail with them, but occasional change is good.

Regarding rumors of a sale: I'm guessing and hoping Apollo Global buys SilverSea and apportions the Whisper and Shadow to Regent and the Spirit to Oceania. Navigator would be sold to someone else as would SS two older ships.

Would you like that?

I think that is a good plan! We are fortunate to have plenty of miles for free tickets but I have done some pricing on one way tickets from time to time -- thinking I might use miles one way in Business Class and fly home in coach and pay to earn miles. Prices are outrageous. If I could sail home in a suite (even less than a suite) on ANY cruise line for less than the cost of an uncomfortable coach seat, I'd book the cabin in a heartbeat.

I used to sail NCL back in the 70's and always had fun...but that was a different era in cruising!....and I was in a different age group! :) I will be anxious to hear how you like the T/A...sounds like a great grouping of ports and very unique...looking for that in T/As these days!! LuAnn

Having met and conversed at length with Don, I understand his travel considerations. ;)

NCl Oceania, Princess, Celrb...... Don could be happy on a tuna boat if it was going in his direction. He makes the best of the situation and is not one who "needs" he rather adapts his travel to his wants.

Pragmatic travel, and it gets him the world as his oyster...".Oh my God, your not going on X", never influences or enters his picture.

I understand this philosophy very well because I too share it. I will put big money on him returning as happy as a clam with NCL because he will not be comparing to anything...it is what it is.

Kind of hard to do as not too many cruise ships dock in Arizona :D
