Your favorite Food on HAL.

I was actually quite surprised as I read through this thread to see how many people mentioned lamb, either leg or rack of lamb, which is one of my favorites on HAL or any cruise. Mrs. K doesn't like it at all so, unlike say lobster which is always popular, it's not something we fix at home. Very few restaurants, except for a few very upscale ones, offer lamb locally so my main source is a cruise. Same for escargot. That's another food Mrs. K can't stand and, in fact, it's one of those "kiss me now before you eat it" foods for her. Of course I feel the same way about cottage cheese which is one of her favorites that she gets when either she or I are away for each other on a business trip or on a cruise. Yuck. :D

Neither of us is fond of leg of lamb. But we do love lamb chops. Besides getting them on the ship, we also get them at home. There is a specialty grocery store where we get them. And then DH grills them -- even in the winter time. We are fortunate that one of the restaurants we go to has excellent lamb chops and lobster tails.

Most soups. Braised lamb shanks, osso buco in the MDR. Grilled lamb chops , bone in rib eye steak & creamed spinach in Pinnacle Grill. Rueben sandwich (my way) bread pudding and ice cream in the Lido.

I love quite a few of HAL's cold soups.

When HAL started them -- it took me back to the days of when we sailed on Cunard -- they had a cold soup each evening.

I'm with you on the cold soups. Although sometimes it feels like I'm eating dessert first.

Pleaaaase HAL, do not give up the right culinary ideas as fresh orange juice, ice cream and impressive assortment of eggs Benedict. Most of these options are not free with others cruise lines.

Holacanada from Quebec city.

Next cruise on Noordam for the 21 days Collector Cruise / Turkey's At Sea...

This is the first mention I've seen- do they do Rijstaffel? We would looove that.

They were doing it on the Eirodam and Nieuw Amsterdam a few years ago. It was only offered in the Tamarind Restaurant.

I heard that it was stopped a couple of years ago -- and I haven't heard anyone talking about it anymore.

Most ships have the afternoon tea in the dining room.

A couple of ships have tried to have it in the Explorer's Lounge but it is just to hard to balance tea and cakes, etc. on your lap. And the tiny tables there just don't hold everything.

I wish HAL would offer the Flourless Chocolate cake (with molten center) more often.

I just looked over the daily programs from our 20 day Westerdam cruise.

There was the Royal Dutch Tea and the Indonesian Tea. But no Cup Cake tea.

Hope others pipe in and indicate if their ship had the cup cake tea. We loved that when we went to it a couple of years ago.

Don't know if anyone said this because I did not read all 8 pages. But we love the fact that in the MDR you can turn an appetizer or a salad into a main course. On surf and turf night I get two lobster tails and no steak. Husband never gets the lobster. MDR is very accommodating. Love the cold soups.
