Miami to West Palm Beach after cruise

We arrive back in Miami on Saturday 5/4 @ 8:00 am from the Liberty and we fly out of West Palm beach at 6:05 pm. We have a rental car to get back to West Palm Beach.

 

Any suggestions on what to do for the day in either city or along the way?

Drive over to the Fort Lauderdale beach area. Spend a few hours at the beach and then grab a nice lunch there. Drive around the corner to Las Olas Blvd and have lunch at one of the numerous restaurants there. When you are finished plan on an approximate forty five minute drive to West Palm Beach Airport. If the weather isn't that great spend a few hours shopping at the Galleria Mall. If your not interested in the beach drive west on Interstate 595 to the Flamingo Road exit. Travel approximately three miles north on Flamingo Road to Sawgrass Mills shopping center. The center is huge and you could easily spend a few days shopping there. There are two decent sized food courts and some decent restaurants too. I just spent a day there two weeks ago while in Florida during my sons spring vacation.

I would go to South Beach to walk around for a few hours and consider having lunch there. Then on your way to West Palm Beach you can stop at that town for a couple of hours.

There is an awful lot to do in the area. A favorite of mine is Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden (http://www.fairchildgarden.org/visitingfairchild/). But it's about 20 - 30 minutes south of the port. Included in admission is a 45 minute tram tour which is a great way to see the different areas.
