Another beverage package question, if you can stand it!

I asked this in another thread, but no one has answered and it's slowly dropping on it's way to page 2, so I figured if I started a new one maybe it would be seen by more and someone would know the answer......

Hoping someone has done this and can give me a clear answer.

Booked a cruise over the weekend with a Celebrity agent to Bermuda and took the beverage package for myself and DH. Payment was made in full since the cruise is in June.

Told the agent that we wanted to upgrade to the premium package, but will do it onboard as we will have $600 in OBC, so that is how I want to pay for it.

He told me that he can put in the upgrade, we'll get an invoice for the $161 cost of the upgrade, but we don't have to pay it, it will be put on the onboard account and then taken from the OBC.

Has anyone done this? Requested the upgrade prior to cruising, got invoiced, not paid it and then had it on their onboard account?

Would be grateful if someone knew!

You could just wait and upgrade as soon as you get on the ship. That is what I will do. I might even wait a day to see if the classic is enough (80% sure it won't be since I'm high maintenance according to my husband! LOL)

That is what I had planned to do so it would come out of the OBC, but when I mentioned it to the agent, he did the upgrade when I made the booking. Guess I will call him again tomorrow and double check that the upgrade cost will move to my onboard account and then come out of the OBC since no one here has been able to answer my question.

Thanks for your replies ladies :)

I would just wait until you got on board to upgrade and then you would be 100% certain that the funds for the upgrade would come out of your OBC. Since your TA has your credit card info, there could be a slip up and you could accidentally be charged for it. After all, there is the possibility that your TA gets a kickback or bonus from Celebrity based on total dollars and not just on a per booking basis and emphasizing that you should do the upgrade ahead of time would possibly benefit him or her in the pocketbook.

Our next 2 cruises were booked through the 123 Go Promo and we are waiting until we board to upgrade our classic package to premium with OBC that we received from our TA.

We are also waiting until we board to upgrade - for 2 reasons:

1 - the OBC rom our TA will pay for it

2 - onboard, only one has to upgrade not both as it says on the Celebrity website. so if one person is satisfied with the classic and drinks the less expensive drinks, then why upgrade both?

This is one of the reasons we are waiting to upgrade too. My husband will be OK with the classic but I like my grey goose drinks and that is not covered by the classic. I can do the brands offered in the classic but I want to see the pricing on the glasses of wine to see if I want to upgrade. Most likely I will upgrade mine and my husband will keep his.

The only problem if only one person upgrades is if you are on an S Class ship, then the person who has the Classic can't sit and drink at the Molecular Bar since the drinks there are 12 bucks. Now I could be mistaken here, but I do believe that the only drinks available at the Molecular Bar are the fancy 12 dollar ones, if you can get a beer there, then I stand corrected. If you sit at the Martini bar on any ship, your drink choices are limited if you only have the Classic package to the regular martini or cosmo, since the rest of the regular martinis are 10 bucks, once again if the beer thing comes into play, I stand corrected. I am only regurgitating what I have read on these boards, my only X cruise was almost 20 years ago, but I am so looking forward to my next two bookings on the Summit and the Silhouette. The many postings about being able to get smaller sized versions of the fancy martini's so that they qualify under the Classic package have been non existent since the introduction of the 123 go promotion.

I spoke with the cruise planner I use exclusively at Celebrity and he once again told me that he already put in our upgrade and we won't have to pay for it till we are on the ship, so yes, it will come out of our OBC.

No problems here with only one of us wanting the upgrade, we both enjoy the Martini Bar too much to worry about staying under the $8 price you are allowed with the Classic!

Cheers to all, hope everyone has a wonderful cruise!

I am not sure about that but he told me that he would not have problems drinking a dirty Martini with the lower priced brands and I know they can make those for you at the molecular bar. Worse case scenario, he will need to get his beer at the casino bar which I think is close by and come and sit with me in one of the tables. He is not a big Martini drinker. We will see. Who knows, he might upgrade too when he sees me drinking premium stuff :)

In this thread, the Celebrity person mentions (back in January) that BOTH persons have to upgrade their drinks package -- one person only cannot.

I guess this related only to before one is onboard? Attilamom1217, is your info. based on past experience?

My information is based on what I read on the boards. However, I suspenct that since my husband likes Rusty Nails that we will both have to upgrade. We will still wait til we are on board so that it goes on our sail card and possibly use OBC.

I wanted to upgrade and my husband did not. So we went straight to Guest Relations after we boarded, where we were told "no problem". She took my Sea Pass and issued me a new one that indicated premium drink package.

That said, a couple of days later when we checked our account, we'd been billed for the upgrade for BOTH of us! Another trip to guest services and they told us they'd take care of it. My husband's Sea Pass still indicated the classic package, and he hadn't tried to order anything premium, so I don't know if they had truly upgraded him or just made a billing error. In any case it was fixed on our account by the next day.

I can't answer your question, but I really want to know how you got $600.00 in onboard credit?

With the 123go promo if you are a captains club member and book a suite (we booked a RS on Summit to Bermuda) you received a $500 onboard credit. There was another promo for NY/NJ residents that also gave us the other $100.

The premium offers a greatly expanded beer selection!

But you don't want him drinking those low brow lite beers and such when he can upgrade and get the unbelievable craft beers that Michaels offers.
