Mara4166 Posted August 30, 2013 #951 Share Posted August 30, 2013 I think I remember someone posting a note at some time about a “secret” door on some ships (the Crown in particular) that allows you to go to a viewing platform on top of the bridge when you are in port. Looking at the deck plans, I think I see the viewing platform on the Riviera deck, but I cannot see how to get there. Can someone please post the secret way to get to this platform? Borisbuddy Posted August 30, 2013 #953 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Yes, they are serious medicine, but they do work well for seasickness. (I have used them on each of my 5 cruises & knew they were working 'cause when they wore off at end of 3 days, I did feel seasick.) One big side effect is that they lower BP, so watch out if you use antihypertensive medicine. I always put the first scop patch on at home, the night before I cruise, so I can acclimate to it easier. (You don't notice if it makes you feel funny at first, if you're asleep.) To me, this med is well worth the trouble since it allows me to enjoy an expensive cruise vacation! sept10dsm Posted August 30, 2013 #954 Share Posted August 30, 2013 She won't try ginger & doesn't get overly sleepy even after drinking wine at dinner. We had similar smooth conditions on a Coral's Alaska b2b last month & she still took meclizine. They say it prevents motion sickness & it's not as effective as a treatment so she takes it in advance. Funny how we take prescriptions that we can't sometimes pronounce and then all the side effects, but a natural and safe item like ginger isn't considered. Well, I'm glad that the mexlizine worked for her. I'm not saying it is the be all and end all but worth trying before the other items to me. beshears Posted August 30, 2013 #955 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Thanks for letting me know what you think gelato tastes like. You said you thought it remineded you out "cake frosting?" Well unless it is the "whipped cream" type, I think it would be too sweet for me, but who knows, I may decide to try it out anyway.:)
tjcletsgo Posted August 30, 2013 #956 Share Posted August 30, 2013 It is basically a cream puff. See attached picture. I always think they should pipe on chocolate eyes. Ee gads, can you order that every night? Do you have to pre-order it? I may re-consider anytime dining......:D

It's very similar to ice cream, maybe a little smoother and more dense. I've never tried it on Princess, though.

milligold Posted August 31, 2013 #962 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Many of us can't use things of that sort. I'm allergic to all of the fabric softeners. We take "pods" of laundry detergent. They're a gel pod so you have to take some precaution to be sure they don't pop in your luggage but it's really not a problem. When someone uses a dryer sheet on my block I can't even be outside. Those things are poison. I know other people who are highly allergic to the fumes of those things as well. As someone who, in a past life, serviced and repaired appliances I can tell you that the dryer sheets are NOT good for your dryer. That waxy coating they use to "soften" your clothes clogs the lint trap on your dryer and forces the machine to work harder. More heating elements and thermostats get blown out because of dryer sheets... Arm and Hammer makes a powder pod called Toss N' Done. I'm allergic to Tide (the ONLY detergent that gives me a rash.) The Toss N' Done clean really well and you don't have to worry about liquid bursting in your suitcase. I used these on my last cruise. Also, they have rolls of quarters at the Purser's office. You don't need to take rolls of quarters or depend on those change machines. Carole

myjillian Posted September 2, 2013 #968 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I've just started reading this forum and thought I'ld put in some info before I forget;) Very important..if you are doing a long cruise and you can book it as a b2b do so. depending on the length your OBC's will double including the military and stock plus you will get a whole new free set up in your fridge. Plus you don't have to use all the OBC on the first leg but the monies can be pushed over into your second ( or third leg. ) Once you give your military info Princess now has it on file and you don't have to redo it !! Also I once had a 3 ply cashmere sweater shrunk after being dry cleaned. It was a knee length type to be worn as a coat with a belt etc. Well, I complained because it became a hip length with 3/4 sleeves..... I showed a picture of me wearing it in Paris just a couple of days before and a bill for what it had cost me to buy it LOL Within in a couple of days the sweater was the way it was before the shrinkage. I kid you not !! I don't know how they did it...but they got it done...so Princess can do magic:)
texastravelers Posted September 2, 2013 #969 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Great info..thanks. We've been to Alaska once several years ago and plan to take one of the Princess trips next June or July. The Grand Princess seems to offer the itinerary that best suits us. Any other words of wisdom on Alaska?Ann Ga Peach, we've done 2 different s. bound cruises. We flew to Anchorage both times & rented a car to go around for the week before. It's a long flight, so you might as well take advantage, right? Pay the big bucks & do a glacier landing and/or a pontoon plane. It was a stretch for us at the time, but we will never forget how amazing it was! #1. Secret? Cruise critic forums! I did lots of research here & it made all the difference! seacruiser1203 Posted September 2, 2013 #970 Share Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) OK so I know I can use my Carnival Rewards to get OBC on Carnival - but is it possible to use Carnival Rewards to get OBC on Princess like they do with the stock options ????? Also, I know that some clubs run drink specials on Princess (from Alaska cruise) --- Does anyone know about any specials prior to comedy shows (or other) on the Emerald. Sailing Thanksgiving week. myjillian Posted September 2, 2013 #973 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Someone stated that things were being repeated and I agree. Reading over 800 posts can be very overwhelming. I went through many pages and pulled out as many "secrets" as I could find. I know that missed some and I know that people will reply to update this list. Since some people posted that they were "writing" the secrets down, I also turned the list into a PDF document. myjillian Posted September 2, 2013 #974 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Someone on this thread is doing that and I told them to sell it on Amazon as a Kindle Book. ;) Kentskie, I just discovered this "secret" site and was interested...and here you are:) Saturday, I just saved another $200 on the Hawaii cruise and they gave me an additional $50 OBC:D I only owe $400 now and I'll wait... to pay it off just incase it gets cheaper LOL. This is tip to everone out there. Don't book a cruise on a web site that makes you pay it off when you book. Find a travel agent who checks on her bookings regularly for price checks and or upgrades. This agent will proberly not mind if you pay for your cruise on "lay-a-way" A couple of hundred $'s here and there and voila...cruise comes...no credit card bill..all is paid ...Of course a last minute deal...is another thing:cool:
