Med cruise- Where to see in your 20s?

Hi our cruise stops of in the following ports in July:

Monaco,

Livorno (Florence/Pisa),

ItalyRome (Civitavecchia),

Italy Naples,

Dubrovnik, Croatia

overnight in Venice, Italy

Messina (Sicily), Italy.

I was wondering as a young couple (late 20s) on honeymoon where would you recommend to see? We are not extremely cultured but like to see 'main attrations i.e pompeii'. We also like to be active and more engaging tours would suit us like wine tasting, water sports, visiting castles and caves...

Please can you tell me the best excursions you have had from these ports.

Thanks in advance

If you read down the board, and on the other boards you have posted on, you will see more info on each port that you will ever need. Then you can decide what interests you. If you then have specific questions, it will be easier to help you.

Thanks CruiserBruce. The whole thing is quite intimidating and I don't knnow where to start. I have been searching the threads but it is all quite overwhelming! Thanks for the tip though.:)

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. Putting on my younger person's hat (late 20s is about 25 years ago for me), I would like to go into cities and do very active things.

I have a couple of suggestions for you. From Monaco, take the bus to Nice, France. It's a cheap bus ride and a fun city. Also, for Naples, you can take a walk right to the hydrofoil docks and spend the day at Capri and get on a private boat, have a couple of drinks and swim in the grottos (the other choice is to see ruins at Pompeii and tour Amalfi Coast). The rest is just what you are interested in. I think there is nothing like a Med cruise. We've done a couple and it's still my favorite place to cruise. Have a great time and plan well.

This sounds like a wonderful trip for a honeymoon! My daughter and her fiancé are thinking about the same kind of cruise for theirs.

FYI, (and you will see this book mentioned here a few times), Rick Steves' Mediterranean Cruise Ports is a good resource for all of the ports you listed, except Messina, I believe. That may help you get started.

In Monaco, you can just stay there as there is much to enjoy. There is a very nice beach if you want to just enjoy the day like that. Or you can go over to the Cathedral and to the Palace and walk around the nearby area. You could also go to the Grand Casino. If you want to eat of the ship there are lots of cafes.

For the ports in Italy do post them on the Italy Board.

Hi

This has videos of all of your ports, with several each for Rome and Venice

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1633637

The best, for me was Venice because it is so each, fun and cheap to get around, is incredibly beautiful and is an engineering marvel. But Rome is not bad either :-) or Pompeii/Herculaneum...

Who can say where's best ? Enjoy every moment, all the best, Tony

Actually these boards are quite easy to use for info, but if they are confusing to you I would get a good Med guide book, use Google, and make some notes then come back with specific questions you may have. Have the fun of travel is the planning one does.

Excellent advice. We are planning a Baltic cruise for this summer---we have never been there. Lots of reading on the appropriate boards here, a half page, or more, of notes on each port, and some off Cruise Critic research. And we are ready to go!!
