Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted June 5, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2013 It all started when the took away the live music in the "Supper Club", found they could rename it as the "Steakhouse", and people kept coming (perhaps even more so, as some of their guests might have been less likely to try a "Supper Club")! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Steakhouse immensely - just wish it was still like the old "Supper Club" with live music.... Carnival will continue to evolve - though this evolution should not be confused with that which occurs by natural selection - far from it... the corporate world has little to do with anything I'd consider "natural"! Tom

To me, it would have created a much more intimate mood with some live piano music. But it won't stop me from dining there, so I guess I can't blame them for eliminating it. Lack of an orchestra at shows doesn't bother me too much. Lack of live music on Lido isn't a deal-breaker, but it's nice. We do enjoy listening to a live band in a lounge a few times during the cruise.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted June 5, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2013 ...We do enjoy listening to a live band in a lounge a few times during the cruise. I heard someone say that they have done away (or are in the process of doing away) with the "Music" bands. I used to enjoy them... oh well... just means more time in the casino for me (which again, probably works into their master plan)! ;) Tom

During a cocktail party for the group the last afternoon I asked about it and was suprised to see that out of about 60 people, 2 thought it was a major cutback, 3 liked the change:eek:, and the rest were mez a mez. Certainly interesting. We got up and walked out of one of the "game" shows half way through.

dclark Posted June 5, 2013 #11 Share Posted June 5, 2013 It used to be that on first day at sea, you'd get dressed up, have free cocktails, have a lobster then see a great show while you still had the glow from the cocktail party. Now, you sort of dress up, after dinner, go to the seaside theater and hope that they are showing a movie you haven't seen yet.

TerReuv Posted June 6, 2013 #20 Share Posted June 6, 2013 Last I read on John Heald's blog, the beards were looking into live music again on the lido and other areas because of the complaints. So, we will see what happens.

Sixtytwo Posted June 6, 2013 #23 Share Posted June 6, 2013 So how many of you who are complaining about not having the live music have actually sent your concerns to Carnival direct rather than airing your opinion on CC? You might get just a little more traction by letting Carnival know your concerns.
Aplmac Posted June 6, 2013 #24 Share Posted June 6, 2013 From the corporate point of view musicians are expensive things to own and run. You have to house them (that takes up valuable room) you have to feed them - and worst of all you have to PAY them! I don't think they have any other duties on board other than to make music so you might see how CCL reckons their Corp. could save a decent chunk of change by cutting them out of the payroll picture! I'm surprised they've lasted this long actually. .
tropicaledrink Posted June 6, 2013 #25 Share Posted June 6, 2013 For what it's worth, the Liberty has the 2.0 upgrades and a live orchestra (at least of of the 5/25 sailing). :D
