6- or 7-Day Cruise to Nowhere?

Recommended Posts

One of the other threads (what to do on a sea day) got me thinking.....

I love the sea days -- my favorite days of the entire cruise! When I select a cruise I try to chose one with as many sea days as possible.

I sure wish they had some longer cruises to nowhere (6- or 7-days) and sailing out of Florida!!

Would you go on a 6-day cruise to nowhere? Sign me up!!:D

Oh, absolutely. We cruise exclusively from Manhattan because we live 20 minutes from the cruise port. 8 day Cruises to Bahamas or Caribbean are great because you get 2 full sea days, 3 days of ports, then another 2 full sea days. We went to PC, Nassau and Freeport in Feb. on the Miracle. Nothing we really wanted to do in those ports and DH wasn't feeling all that great so we basically just stayed on the ship. I just got off in Nassau and Freeport to re-fill my "water bottle." ;);) Years ago they had a week straight of 2 night CTN from Manhattan. We did a B2B so had a 4 day CTN. Nice! :D

We also sail south from Baltimore and New York for the sea days. We are excited to try it from NYC since it is a new ship for us and we get the extra sea day. I'm not sure I could do 6 or 7 days consecutive days at sea, though--sometimes you just need the rocking to stop.

No thanks. I like to go places. Even if we go on a land vacation, I can't stay at the resort the whole time. I like to go places, pick up souveniers, etc. Whenever I see these long transatlantic or hawaii cruises with a bunch of sea days, I think of how much I would dislike it. I disliked having 2 1/2 sea days at the beginning of my last conquest cruise. I would be more apt to take one of the port intensive cruises like they have from san juan.

I love the port days - not because I love the ports, in fact I don't even usually get off the ship.

But on port days it feels like I have the ship to myself. I always find a spot on the serenity deck, waiters are always plentiful and attentive, and discounts at the Spa!

Stay on the ship and enjoy your "sea day" at port!

I don't know if I'd want to be onboard that many days without some kind of diversion. But neither do I want to do one of those 7 or 8 day cruises that are so port-intensive your only sea days are the first and last day. We did an 8 day southern Caribbean out of Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago and it was the perfect length for me. Half of the days were sea days and having the extra day was just enough for me to be ready to go home. Of course you could always take a longer cruise and just don't get off at any of the ports. I know a family that does a Disney cruise every year and the only place they get off the ship is Disney's private island.

I love sea days too and did a 5 day cruise to nowhere on Princess in 2010 and didn't find it as enjoyable as I thought it would be.

aren't the casinos closed on port days so that sours a gambler's day. there must be a few cruisers who almost live for and in the casino.

I see you have met my DH!:eek:

Yes, that's what we did in February. It's great. No lines at the food stations, etc. I will admit tho, that when we did our cruise to HI on Island Princess, with 5 days down, then 5 days on the various islands, then 5 days back, by the end I was getting a little antsy. But we had HORRIBLE weather the ENTIRE time, on the ship and on the islands. So that had a lot to do with it. I think on the 2nd to last day as I was walking down the hallways I was asking the room stewards if they wanted me to help them! :p I wouldn't do a TA cruise, tho. lst there is the expense to fly there or fly home, but there is some amount of comfort in knowing that land isn't too far away on a "regular" cruise. I don't think I want to be out there in the middle of nothing! :o
