LTCOP Posted June 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2013 I am interested in information about taxis in Barbados. Does anyone know if the drivers will accept US dollars? Anyone have an idea of the cost from the airport to the Accra Beach Hotel? Do the taxis have a good reputation? Trying to decide if I should use ship transportation or just use a taxi myself:-) Has anyone stayed at the Accra? Any comments? Thanks for any advice! aimodels Posted June 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2013 Yes, the drivers (as well as most Bajans) will gladly accept USD. When a driver quotes you a rate, be sure to clarify whether you're being quoted in BDS or USD. $ 1USD = $2 BDS. A taxi from GA airport to Accra/Rockley should run $17 USD ($34 BDS). I personally have never had a problem with cabs or buses on Barbados. You'll likely get a better deal if you catch a cab outside of the port area. Aplmac Posted June 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2013 Accra Beach Hotel is located on the nicest beach on the South Coast so be sure to take advantage of that geographical location! This picture taken at Rockley Beach, where you can see bits of the hotel smack in the middle of the shot. The U.S.Dollar is not only accepted, it is preferred! -anywhere in these islands by any- and every-one myself included. Beats the local Mickey Mouse currencies. . LTCOP Posted June 18, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted June 18, 2013 Oh my gosh - that beach and water look wonderful!!! Thanks for much to both of you for answering my questions!!! The taxi rate is certainly better than the cruise ship transfer rate! We won't land until around 10:30 at night. Do the taxis charge a higher rate for that time of night? Aplmac - I see you are leaving on a cruise soon! Bon Voyage! Pam
aimodels Posted June 18, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2013 Time of day shouldn't matter, but a driver may charge you more depending on how much luggage you have and the size of your group. IIRC, the last time we took a cab from GA to The Gap, we were a group of 9 with luggage, so we needed a larger van. I think we ended up paying $40 USD plus tip. Just check with the driver... Here's a good guideline for rates: http://barbados.org/tours/barbadostaxis.htm Cheers, P:)
