Never book under Supersaver Back to Back.

I thought I read that on b2b you didn't have to get off the ship.

With B2B's you normally meet the rest of those doing B2B in the atrium, walk off the ship, through customs, and right back on the ship.

The OP is saying that's not what she was told and thinks it has something to do with her booking supersaver (guarantee cabin). I think she was mis-informed.

I too, just did a B-2-B aboard "Paradise", with different cabins. Not only did the steward help roll my luggage down the passageway to the new cabin, I never had to leave the ship. Only had to go to the pursers desk to receive my new "sign-n-sail" card, then when the new passengers started coming aboard, I had to walk over to the ship end of the gangplank, and get "dinged in". No problem, and totally painless.

We have friends who did a B2B on the Splendor out of Long Beach in December. We joined them for their 2nd week. They were told by Guest Services they had to take their luggage off and then reboard with everyone else. They were no special arrangements for the B2B'ers on the ship. BTW - my friends were in different cabins. The only good thing was they are Platinum so check-in was easy for them.

Same cabin would be nice, but with a guarantee, don't you get cabins not booked by someone else? So week 2, the cabin was likely already booked by someone else.

Yes...that's what I was trying to say. I wouldn't book SuperSaver. I want to pick my cabin and have the same one for a B2B.

While I agree that a person should understand what he is booking before paying money, I can certainly understand someone not understanding fare rules because there are so many of them--especially for someone not so familiar with Carnival's ways.

For example right now I have 2 different casino offers, 2 different past guest offers, 2 different friends and family offers, and 2 different fall and winter sale offers showing in my offers on Carnival's website. Each one lists its own rules. And that doesn't include the offers under the early saver tab on the offers page, or the other offers that come out separately such as easy saver.

I can see why Carnival has made the decision to simplify their pricing. Vacation should be fun. Why should I have to spend half a day reading rules before I book my vacation just to find set of rules I can live with? I just think Carnival should change their fares to fill cabins....not change the rules to fill cabins. I think we see way too many posts like this one where a customer is frustrated with Carnival before they even get on the ship; all because of pricing rules. I'm looking forward to the fall when the promised simplified pricing comes out.

We have done several b2b and NEVER had to get off with our luggage. This is one of the benefits of a b2b. I would think if this were the case that they would have fewer b2b on that ship. I have never done a b2b out of LGB but if that is the case I will never do one.

One person had a friend (not even her) that she said had to take off luggage and does not even say what the unusual circumstances were that they did this.

Believe me this is unsual. It COULD happen .. lots of things COULD happen. But its very unlikely.

wow-- kinda makes booking a B2B so not worth it.

Would LOVE to do a B2B, but would definitely do a booking that allowed me to pick the same cabin for both legs..!:)

Absolutely no logic to me to have to pack and unpack for the second leg.. Guess I'm spoiled, but.. WHY??:o

Is it that much cheaper to book a GTY..? Most cases I have seen were only in the $100. range to 'pick', or GTY..

Must be the SuperSaver of which I am unaware... ;)

In my case, I booked one cruise first.. and the one before or after dropped in price and was booked at a later date... so I took it.

Picked my own cabin, but the cabin I was in already wasnt available so I moved in between. Not my favorite, but I pack light and would not say, oh no thanks to a good price just because I didnt want to pack. Im lazy but not that lazy to turn down a good deal.

None of my B2Bs ever started out as B2Bs, except one on RCL was planned.

Just read this and think REALLY???!!

Must be Im just a cruise addict as if it came down to cruising twice or saying Oh NO THANKS .. it just isnt worth it because I have to pack my stuff up and move.

You seriously would say oh no thanks??

Heck to me its a lot harder to drive to New Orleans which Im doing this Saturday, by myself to board Conquest. Its about 10 hours each way. To me that is work and tiring .. but packing would deter you from a B2B??

You and I are just opposites. I would do a lot of things to cruise... and do.

We all thought it was strange they had to do this. Our friends are lurkers on CC and knew that others didn't have to take their luggage off and go thru the whole process again. Maybe they were the lucky ones and got the CBP officials that had to do everything by the book.

was there a reason or did they just do that because that was what was expected?

was it a repositionning cruise?

This. Rose and I are talking about the same couple. It was a one-off experience in Long Beach. The 'Exception to the Rule" so to speak. Just know that it can happen.

At times Long Beach does things differently than the other ports.

I would do a B2B2B2B even if I had to change cabins every single time. The purpose of a B2B isn't just to not have to move cabins! It's to get a longer cruise going to more ports.

At least it was for me!

On Fantasy, we had the "typical" scenario (there was only me one couple) - met in the atrium by the service desk, dinged our old cards out, escorted off once everyone else was off the ship, showed passport to immigrations, escorted back on, dinged our new cards and back onto the ship to enjoy it ALL TO OURSELVES for a couple of hours. It was great (despite Hurricane Sandy interrupting both sailings and us missing a port on each).

OP indicated that they used a TA. a few posts after their original, a good TA should know about fare policies and what a GTY cabin means.
