Emmski35 Posted August 27, 2013 #126 Share Posted August 27, 2013 I've been on the boards since 2002 and I have had similar struggles ever since. Haha, phew! Glad it's not just me! :o
Spf12 Posted August 27, 2013 #127 Share Posted August 27, 2013 I'm with you there! I posted a thread on what people thought were the differences between celebrity and royal Caribbean, I was told this was an inappropriate question considering all that had happened on the Millie...what?! In that case we'd never ask a question again, what about third world hunger, we would never complain about the food on board a ship again as its deemed inappropriate! I am new to these boards and do struggle a bit with the mentality a bit. Anyway..back to the subject in hand...;) I've been cruising Celebrity since 1993 and can't remember when I started reading and posting on cruise critic. But one thing is for sure there are a lot of idiots who love to hear themselves talk and legislate what people can say. They don't forget that the name of the site is CRUISE CRITIC. wvufan Posted August 27, 2013 #131 Share Posted August 27, 2013 We are on the Summit in a couple weeks and had really looked forward to meeting Ti-Ann. Unfortunately she is on break and we are stuck with Melissa Snow, who I had previously noted was our least favorite of all. We sailed with her on the Mercury and she was obsessed with a few who pranced about like VIPs. They essentially intimidated and tacitly threatened her, and she ignored everyone else. No matter, we will still have a fantastic cruise. As far as feeling less appreciated, I think it is a combination of things, not the least being all the nonsense and confusion of multiple incentives, dramatic price changes, etc. It just ain't fun planning a cruise any more. We feel more like a victim than a valued customer. Once on board, we are pleased with the Celebrity experience. If I could change one thing it would be to revert to the previous policy of honoring price reductions after final payment. navybankerteacher Posted August 27, 2013 #132 Share Posted August 27, 2013 Have those of you who are put off by the special treatment of suite guests ever gone to Vegas? You would be suicidal! High rollers (those who gamble thousands and thousands) get special treatment EVERYWHERE - I'm not even privy to the fabulous suites they get (for free!) or the fact they are flown there (First Class - for free!), or they have limos wherever they want to go (for free!), but I DO see that they have...special lines at buffets and restaurants...special windows at the cashiers...front row seats at the shows...cabanas by the pools (for free!)...special check-in lines (wait, scratch that...lines? bwah ha ha ha...they are taken to a private room, given a glass of bubbly, and THAT's how they check in. And why? Because they spend beaucoup bucks. You can do it, too...just gamble THOUSANDS...or, stay in a suite on X or any other cruise line... I mean, what business would NOT cater to their truly big spenders? To be angry or jealous or pouty about it is just silly. YOU can be in that position, too...but you choose not to/can't. Including me. The high-rollers you mention do not get anything "free" in the long run. Their losses at the tables (virtually certain, the way casinos operate) mean that they are paying handsomely for the accommodations - they are just doing it a bit differently. Dave85 Posted August 27, 2013 #133 Share Posted August 27, 2013 They don't forget that the name of the site is CRUISE CRITIC. Amen. Perhaps they can create another board called Cruise Cheerleader where you can only say positive things about the various cruise lines. Personally, I get a lot of valuable information from the reasonable criticism of ships / cruise lines expressed by other CC members that I take into consideration when making future travel plans. Orator Posted August 27, 2013 #134 Share Posted August 27, 2013 We've been going way, way off topic. Perhaps everyone said all that is to be said. Could start new threads of Captain's Club Host/Hostess or the purpose of Cruise critic.

Melissa is really one of the worst we have encountered on any cruise line since they started the hostess program. She seems to busy to talk to anyone and dressing very unprofessional when attending functions. Glad to find out where she is now. Good Luck with her. Happy Sails to You OOOEEE :D:D Bob and Phyl Ti Anne didn't really "do much" for us...those phone voice mails got to be a running joke...but, in fairness to her, we never really expect the CC hostess/host to do much for us... We've watched these staff fawn over others, and the passengers enjoy it. We don't, so it's worked out well. But we have had some wonderful people as both staff and officers treat us well without any expectations. And that is most often when we have received extra "perks.". Bottles of wine, books, drinks with an officer or the captain. The cruise is the point. The rest is just window dressing. If we don't get anything, and don't meet anyone, we still have a great time...and isn't that the point? Ma Bell Posted August 27, 2013 #139 Share Posted August 27, 2013 Andrew, I agree. The little extras are lovely,I don't expect them and always enjoy them when they occur but the cruise itself and the people I'm with are what I love. Once on the ship we always have a wonderful time. It's the pre-cruise that's not much fun anymore.
Cruiser Susie Posted August 27, 2013 #140 Share Posted August 27, 2013 It's been very "interesting" reading this thread. Soapbox to commence: When we cruise, we are always glad to be back on a ship. We get to experience new places, new staff and guests, new friends and old friends. We enjoy meals that are in a lovely venue; service that is excellent, and get the chance to really relax and enjoy each other's company and that of other friends and cruisers. I have never understood the grumpy mentality that some people bring with them, nor the sense of "entitlement" that often follows many people. We have had more than 20 cruises on Celebrity, and while that's not a huge number, it says that we really enjoy cruising on Celebrity. We enjoy the perks that we are given; the smiles and welcoming attitude and service of the crew and staff; we enjoy the privilege of being able to go on a cruise and have a good time. We aren't cruising as often these days, so when we do go, it's always a delight to be back on a ship. I wish more people would simply go and have a good time, smile and relax, and not worry so much about what they are or are not getting. Have fun, everyone. Life is really too short to moan and groan so much about little things. Be glad you're healthy enough to go on a cruise, that you have the money to do so and that you get to see and do all that you are doing. I know I am really looking forward to our next cruise, and I hope that you all are, as well. End of soapbox.

phoenix_dream Posted August 27, 2013 #142 Share Posted August 27, 2013 I've been cruising Celebrity since 1993 and can't remember when I started reading and posting on cruise critic. But one thing is for sure there are a lot of idiots who love to hear themselves talk and legislate what people can say. They don't forget that the name of the site is CRUISE CRITIC. Honestly, I would revise that to say there are a few idiots who act as you say. It so happens some of them tend to post fairly frequently. But don't you really think that the majority of people are just trying to be helpful and have some fun with the boards? I think sometimes we are victims of the written word, without the context of being able to see facial expressions and truly determine intent. I think some people tend to be pretty blunt in the way they talk in 'real life' and when writing on boards like this that can come across much harsher than they really intended. I confess a few times I have gotten upset by what someone has said and told them so (hopefully politely - I try to), only to find out they really did not mean it the way I interpreted it. I suspect that happens more often as not. We really need to step back and give people the benefit of the doubt more (I am lecturing to myself as well as anyone:)). Just because someone writes something negative about Celebrity, their cruise, the Elite perks, whatever, does not mean they are necessarily complainers. Conversely, just because someone points out the pluses of Celebrity, or doesn't think someone else's complaints are warranted doesn't make them Celebrity cheerleaders necessarily. Just because someone writes a little bluntly does not mean they intended to be rude or hurtful. I am not meaning this directed at anyone in particular. I am blabbering on about general behavior. Can't we all just get along:D:D:D
C 2 C Posted August 27, 2013 #143 Share Posted August 27, 2013 Too many people have forgotten about the consequences of pavlovian responses. When we behave in a certain way, we are rewarded or punished for our actions. The more positive responses or treats that we have received in the past, the less we understand why our "master" no longer rewards us with treats when we continue to do what has worked in the past. Its not impossible but it is very difficult to learn new tricks as I age. ;)

Most people do post positive information or have a meaningful discussion on a partiuicular topic, sometimes it degenerates from Constructive criticism to just criticism of the poster or cruise line without validation. No matter what it is called, this will always happen, as people have opinions and text does not convey all the nuances of the message that verbal conversation can. Anyway, a bit of healthy debate is good for clarification of your own thoughts.:D
