Royal Caribbean prohibits smoking on balconies

I believe NCL still allow balcony smoking?

 

Their current policy does not permit cigars and pipes on balconies.....but only cigarettes. However, they do allow folks to smoke cigars just about anywhere on deck. This is one reason we will not cruise on that line, but it sure sounds like a good line for smokers.

I worked in casinos in Nevada for many years. It's fact that smokers are heavier drinkers and gamblers. If this was not the case the casinos would have been non smoking many years ago- they could save a fortune in cleaning and damage costs.

Cruise lines need gamblers and drinkers as long as they are selling cabins on seven night cruises for $350 pp.

I'm not a smoker but understand it's all about the bottom line. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the lines had flagged cabins that requested ash trays for balcony to watch on board spend in bars and casino.

I hope so. Smoking is so dangerous at sea. A fire is the worst thing that can happen to a ship. You know people are smoking in the cabins. Who is going to stop them?

You make some interesting points - when we were on the P'dam I had an interesting chat with one of the casino personnel. they basically said that the casinos would never go non smoking as apparently casinos don't make as much money when smoking isn't permitted. hmmm???

They absolutely know in which cabins there are smokers and have kept track of that for years.....

for safety reasons.

Having said that, I get a kick out of people who "clutch their pearls" and gasp if they smell a whiff of smoke. I mean really. Spend anytime in a city? Good lord the smell of exhaust is much worse. There are a lot of smells worse than a cigarette. If you only smell it while walking through an area, whilst on your balcony, or in the hallway, relax, you won't get cancer. I hate the smell of heavy aftershave or perfume. If you are sitting with someone who has "overdosed" you will smell it for a long time. I don't like smoking, I'm not crazy about the smell, but try to be realistic.

I know huh...I shudder to think what my lungs take in on embarkation day...all the trucks un-loading supplies, the buses and taxis. Even on the ship when I am on the sports deck I can always see the black flecks from the exhaust of the burning of bunker fuel. Those are some good size flakes and I am sure just loaded with toxins.

Ok...so do they monitor these rooms..every so often slide spy cameras under the door...big fire extenguisher outside cabin :D In all seriousness I believe they track the smokers but not really sure what safety measures they could employ because they know there are smokers in a room. Maybe somebody actually knows, I for one am curious.

Could be, but I would think that is what would tip them off that there were smokers in the cabin. But then they would only be tracking people who smoke that are in balcony cabins. I was just hoping the poster would explain what the safety reasons were, but doesn't look like that is going to happen.
