Royal Caribbean prohibits smoking on balconies

Eventually, everybody will have the same rules. It is inevitable. Just like the wine policy, HAL will try to be in line with everyone else. Not all, but most, of the mainstream lines.

Hope they do stop smoking on balconies. I think it is a fire hazard and plus it is unpleasant for non-smokers on either side of the smoker. Give them a safe, pleasant, and convenient place to smoke besides the balconies. JMO.

I hope so, as well, but I'm not holding my breath. Would rather they instituted that policy than the new wine policy!

Hmmmm. Holding your breath is often what you must do on HA cruises if you want to avoid smoke :)

We should add that RCI not only will prohibit smoking on balconies, but also in all passenger cabins ($250 cleaning fee if violated) and nearly all indoor areas with the exception of the casino and one indoor smoking room (on most ships). But the indoor smoking venue might also be an area for cigars and we know that many cigarette smokers hate cigar smoke. RCI is also limiting Electronic Cigarettes to only those designated smoking areas.

Starting Jan. 1/14' date=' Royal Caribbean is prohibiting smoking on balconies. Will HAL follow along eventually?[/quote']

We cancelled our 2/2014 cruise because HAL allowed smoking on the verandas and didn't want to take the chance of not being able to use it.

Oddly, HAL thought the reason we cancelled was because of the new wine policy which I didn't like but was not the deal breaker. I like HAL and now will sail with them again. However, they have to find a comfortable place for the smokers and not some corner of the ship.

Much better for you than smoking ... and doesn't inconvenience your neighbour ;)

Not if it is bought at a movie theater and smothered in "butter". Also not fun for the neighbors if you have a movie theater size popper going on the balcony. :D

Saw a few comments on the Royal boards mentioning HAL as their new alternative.

Oh great

I worry too that all the smokers will come to HAL. We're planning to book even more cruises with Celebrity. Not ruling HAL out, but most likely won't be booking balconies with HAL again. :(

RCI (or any line for that matter) will have problems banning Electronic Cigs from passenger cabins or verandas because they have no fire nor any odor to the water vapor they emit.
