Friscoonetwo Posted September 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2013 We are booked on the Coral for Jan 19 partial transit of Panama Canal. On our dining preference which is 2 people traditional dining it says....Waitlist #114. Have searched the Princess site and can find no explanation. Can any of you help us out with what this means? Also, in various posts see the following DH which I am assuming refers to husband. Why the use of the letters instead of using husband or spouse? Thanks
Rare 1025cruise Posted September 21, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2013 It means that you are waitlisted for your dining preference, probably number 114 on the list. With regards to abbreviations, they are easier to type.
Shogun Posted September 21, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2013 Hello, Welcome to Cruise Critic and the Princess Board Wait listing happens when more people want a dining slot, cabin or tour Princess knows a number of people will cancel or change their requests as such you will move up the list, so good chance you might get your first request met, if not near sailing time Princess should confirm what they can offer. As to using DW DH DD DS just short hand, yours Shogun
skynight Posted September 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2013 We are booked on the Coral for Jan 19 partial transit of Panama Canal. On our dining preference which is 2 people traditional dining Thanks There are a limited no. of tables for 2 in traditional dining, and for that matter in anytime dining (ATD). Some of them are just tables separated by 12 inches or so. You are right next to the couple next to you. You will have better luck asking for a shared table for 6 or 8. Another option is to change to ATD. On the first day go to the head waiter and ask for your preference for the cruise. They may be able to provide you with what you want. We have been on the Coral twice and the sister ship the Island twice. All 4 times early dining was crowded and late dining emptyish. An older North American crowd creates a greater demand for early dining. We always choose ATD. We experience mostly different people each evening. It's an interesting part of the cruise experience. traveling psych nurse Posted September 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 21, 2013 We booked a cruise for December in April of this year. When I first found the waitlist we were #48. I have not changed anything and we are now # 119. No clue as to how Princess is deciding our place on the waitlist.Good luck on your table for 2. rpcv77 Posted September 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 21, 2013 Welcome! Those abbreviations are not only used on cc, but are universal to message boards Internet wide.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 21, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2013 You may clear the waiting list prior to your cruise and then the change will show up on your online reservation information. Otherwise you will just have to wait until you get to the port to see the situation. When you check-in at the port your dining reservation will be on your cruise card. If it is not what you requested, then you need to go to the main dining room as soon as your board and there will be a line of folks waiting to see the Maitre D to get their dining situation fixed or changed. Keep in mind that on your ship there are 2 Main Dining Rooms and one of them will be for the fixed seating. But the other dining room will be for "Anytime Dining" which means you simply show up anytime from about 5:30 -10:00 and ask for a table for 2 or to share a large table (usually a lot of fun since you get to meet other cruisers). As to wait lists, this often happens for the Early Dining since many folks seem to enjoy having their dinner before the sun sets :). Asking for a "2 top" at the early sitting will often get folks on the Wait List because there are just not enough small tables to handle the demand. If you cannot get a 2 top your options would be to accept sharing a larger table or you could request Anytime Dining. When you go to Anytime Dining you would simply tell them you want a table for 2 and if none are available they will usually give you a beeper and page you when they have a table. cherylandtk Posted September 21, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2013 Waitlists for a specific dining time are simply determined by how many people in total have requested that seating. It has nothing to do with the size of the table requested. Waitlist position goes to a lower number (higher priority) when someone ahead of you leaves the list. A waitlist position can go to a higher number (lower position) when someone with dining priority moves ahead of you. This can happen with suite passengers and certain group dining arrangements. The actual table assignment (whether you get a two-top or not) does not occur until a few days before your actual cruise, when the Maitre d' does the final table arrangements according to the seating requests of the people assigned to that dining time. In some cases you get your request, in others you do not. It all depends on what the other people request.
