Got a robo-text from Royal about our Oasis cruise that leaves in 2 days, stating due to the government shutdown, the ship won't be cleared as timely as usual, do not report to the terminal before 12:30 to board the ship. I thought we might have a problem next week when debarking, because the government shutdown is going to start Oct 1st......Why would it affect this saturday????

LOL... I wonder who comes up with the various excuses to come at different times. They should just be honest and ask people to voluntarily sign up for certain slots or something like that. Maybe offer a free drink coupon to those that come during their voluntary slot.

P.S. - Seems like a fun job coming up with all the BS excuses. Where do I apply? hahahaha

Don't worry, they have been sending that text out for the last couple of months. Peope have still been going to the port as early as 10:30 or 11 am with no issues whatsoever.

As a federal employee, I sure hope they can avoid a govt. shutdown. Just before our last cruise my DH lost his job. We would have lost too much money on the cruise and the plane tickets to cancel, but weren't able to really enjoy the cruise not knowing how long he'd be without a job. Had to watch every dime we spent. I'd hate for a govt. shutdown just weeks before our next cruise to put a damper on it.

This email predates the current shutdown. It pops up every week or two. I'm a Fed employee and we always have savings "just in case" and we're cruising in 5 weeks, but not going to worry. DH is a Fed contractor but he's on a contract that has already been paid ahead for a few months. He makes more than I do. My DH was put off contract last Sept, weeks before our cruise that was already paid for. He was out of work for 7 work days but we were going to go anyway. He was put in a position on an existing contract and everything was good. As a Fed employee, even if we are furloughed, we "probably" will be paid. Not definite, but probably.

The point is, this is an old email and we're ignoring it for our Allure cruise as most everyone else has. We plan on being at the port by 11 am, just like we do for every cruise.

The government shutdown would not take affect until Tuesday. However, CBP officers are essential and will not be furloughed in either case. This isn't like before when their overtime was cut and delays happened.

Oasis will be out to sea by Tuesday. Relax and enjoy

It seems these have been coming out weekly and we got our last July.

No one stopped us when we were escorted thru the suite door, and the attendant took us to check-in at 10:30 to board the Allure.

Maybe it is to reduce numbers of those you do not read cruise critic, but we know better.
