Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Anyone got an update on what ship the band Siglo is on? I know they were on Marina earlier this year. I have this fantasy that they switch to Riviera for our cruise next month. They are the absolute best.
ChatKat in Ca. Posted October 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Really? That would be totally Awesome! Shades of Tahiti!
DavidTheWonderer Posted October 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2013 According to their Facebook page the patriarch of the band, Tata Romy, died on 7 September, 2013. I knew he had been ill for a while, but this is sad. No mention on the page of where they are at the moment but I'm hoping for Riveria in November! Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 1, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Was Tata Romy the patriarch? He used to be known as Siglo himself? I know he tried to retire back, oh, close to ten years ago, and he was ill, so not surprised. (Silly me, I should read your posting more closely, David.) Crossing fingers and toes. Although I know there tends to be a turnover of staff before a TA, right?
kikibeck Posted October 1, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 1, 2013 They were on the Riviera last week, Barcelona to Lisbon. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
caviargal Posted October 1, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 1, 2013 I just checked this band out and hope they are aboard Riviera in 2 weeks. I did not expect a contemporary dance band to be aboard and was happy to read that Oceania has some good entertainment. It is often stated here that this is one of their weak spots. Rare ORV Posted October 1, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 1, 2013 So if I remember Siglo had a really, really good guitar player. He's not the one that died was he?
Rare LHT28 Posted October 1, 2013 #12 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Are they a house band or one of the guest entertainers ??
ChatKat in Ca. Posted October 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 1, 2013 There were the house band on the Paul Gauguin under Regent (then Radisson) in Tahiti. They could play ANYTHING and were a lot of fun.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted October 2, 2013 Author #14 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I've been checking with Siglo on FB. Unfortunately it sounds like they may be getting off just when we're getting on, in Barcelona on November 18th. If so, my friends who are taking the cruise before us will have a real treat. DavidTheWonderer Posted October 2, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 2, 2013 It is outrageous that Siglo will be getting off the ship just when we're getting on. I demand that FDR look into this and cancel this mis-guided scheduling! This is not what I expect from a luxury cruise line, (err .. I mean high-end cruise line). In case you haven't noticed, this posting is intended to be a satire of so many posts that I've seen here and on the Regent board.;)
JimandStan Posted October 2, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 2, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZRLcoAVodM I realize, Wendy, that you have not yet sailed with Oceania, but these boys seem a tad too "metal" for the Oceania demographic. The couple who are so determinedly attempting to swing dance (that IS the Lindy, correct?) at the 5 minute mark, particularly tickle me. Siglo is not my taste at all, but then I may just be an old fuddy duddy. I'd be interested to hear what others think.
Paulchili Posted October 2, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I don't think I could listen to that music for very long either - did not recognize any of it  I guess I am an old fuddy duddy too :D I wonder how well attended were their performances. Does not appear to be a good match for O crowd (in general) - IMO.
Rare ORV Posted October 2, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 2, 2013 LOL So if a person likes rock n roll they might not be refined enough for Oceania? On the other hand I'm okay if I never hear Freebird again, whether it's the original or a cover band. Lot's of older folks like rock n roll. How old are the people that played it in the 50's & 60's? I'll answer that, somewhere between 65 & 90.

But what I hear on that youtube clip is not what I call rock n roll (certainly nothing I remember from the 50's or 60's rock n roll) -it's a lot closer to Metallica and that is what I was referring to :D

It was an extremely popular song. Completely different genre from Metallica. FWIW I find it repetitive, too long, and quite grating on the nerves. In my youth I actually saw Lynryd Skynrd, twice, I wouldn't walk across the street to see them now.
Rare LHT28 Posted October 2, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I can honestly say I have not seen any bands like that on my O cruises maybe a god thing ;) Not my cup of tea either We like most types of music as DH was a musician in his younger days ..now we are old fuddy duddies & prefer the likes of the string quartets we are off to see Leona Boyd this weekend We still like R & R just not that kind :D Lyn

Catherine721 Posted October 2, 2013 #23 Share Posted October 2, 2013 We will be on Oceania - Riviera in a few weeks. Our third Oceania cruise. We have two more booked and I really wish Siglo was on one of our cruises. After listening to the YouTube song - I must confess that I really like them. burm Posted October 2, 2013 #24 Share Posted October 2, 2013 I too hope Siglo will be playing on the Riviera (based on that one video), because our next cruise will be on the Marina. And I thought Siglo would be a nice Latin band. :(
DavidTheWonderer Posted October 2, 2013 #25 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Everybody is entitled to their own taste in music and, as Jim and Stan point out, we're Regent ex-pats and don't know the demographic of Riviera (yet). So I will certainly defer to those with more experience. That said, I thought the video was great and good-on those folks dancing to what, after all, is now a 40-year old classic by Lynard Skynard. Yes, 40 years old: it was first released in 1973. Ever fearless, I will wade further into these treacherous waters. I noticed that neither of the folks who were dancing were wearing denim. And they seemed to be having some serious fun. If they had been wearing denim, they couldn't have partied like that in a resto where such garb is forbidden. Perhaps we can combine a dress code with a music code. The permutations are many and fascinating. No denim when the band is playing classic rock. Denim is required if the band is playing Twisted Sister. Formal attire for string quartets, unless they are playing Bartok when swimwear is appropriate. These waters are indeed treacherous and largely uncharted.;)
