Yes, Roy. USPH boarded the day we disembarked to do their inspection. We got word that night or next day how well the ship had scored. :)

 

Captain Peter Bos was to start his vacation that day. I suspect he may have left the ship a bit later than he originally planned but certainly don't know for sure.

 

In any case, he and his crew are terrific!!! :)

Of the 155 cruise ships inspected so far this year, Veendam placed 79th, or in the lower half. Of HALs 15 vessels, Veendam was 10th.

Despite your effort to diminish their accomplishment, a --- 96 ----- is a very good score. No one can deny it is well done especially for a ship as old as Veendam.

 

I know of no cruise line or ship that is not relieved to receive such a score.

 

I reaffirm my hearty praise for the Officers/Crew and Staff of Veendam.

We disembarked that ship the day of the inspection and can confirm she has a wonderful crew !! :)

Pax wouldn't be aware of the type of infractions that can cause inspection problems. They are not in public areas, but are most often in the kitchen areas involving food storage, refrigeration, cleaning and sanitizing, food prep, etc. When the Veendam failed an inspection a year or so ago the pax didn't have a clue there was a problem anywhere. Glad to see the latest inspection had a passing grade. :)

I said pretty much that last time this issue came up, and got severely trounced on for daring to suggest such a thing. But honestly, I see 96 as a passing grade, and so many other ships got a perfect score. I will celebrate when a HAL ship does the same, and we can be proud of it.

I'm glad the score was decent for this ship but for us it's an expectation - we don't expect a ship to fail inspection;) So yes, I'm glad they passed and good job to the crew but it is something we expect;)

Most people would say there were 21 ships tied for first, and Allure (et al) at 99 came in 2nd. Under that accounting, the Veendam (et al) came in 5th.

I think a 96 is a pretty good score. Since it's true that passengers don't know where the infraction might be, it might be something very innocuous. Veendam certainly couldn't have scored so high when I sailed her two years ago and she had serious plumbing leaks, burst pipes and A/C issues. I say good job getting her act together.

And notice the ships are in alphabetical order by cruiseline too.

 

The frequency distribution of the top 5 scores (100 to 94) is:

100=21, 99=19, 98=12, 97=15,96=13, 95=14,94=11. From there on it is single digits.

Thanks for posting the results Sail. We saw the inspectors on the aft deck looking in the storage places and the bar while we were waiting to disembark. I've been wondering how the ship did in that inspection.

 

We would agree with you that the crew was great. We received excellent service through out our time on the ship.

I have a question about the data. Some ships show more than one score. For example, the Prinsendam received a 97 and a 96. How do you tell which is the latest score?

The "Quotes" seem to have gotten all mixed up here. I remember that happening some six months ago, and I have no idea why.

It starts when someone tries to quote and edit/snip, and they remove one of the brackets. That leaves what they have "quoted" there, but not in a blue box.

When the next person tries to quote that, their bracketing is there, as well as the partial bracketing remaining from the first attempt. The system reads the bracketing as it's programmed to do, and attributes to the wrong person.

If the first person were to check their post, see that the the blue box is missing, and go back and replace the missing code, all would be well.

If the second person would remove the bad coding, it would also look right from there on out.
