Elephant rides in Phuket

Hi

I am on Celebrity Millenium in Jan I would just like to know if anyone has done the elephant trip and do you know what camp they use as I have read some bad reports.

Thanks

Tracey

I can't answer your question, but I did ride an elephant in Bangkok once. It was not something that was a high point of my life.

I have read that riding an elephant can be somewhat risky. I am not one to be put off by a little risk, but in my opinion, the benefit of the ride is not worth any risk.

This is an old photo of us riding an elephant in Phuket. So old that my daughter is now 13.

I really enjoyed the ride as I love elephants. My husband on the other hand saw all the things that could have gone wrong. You do ride along the edge of a hill at times and he was worried about the elephant tripping or slipping.

We you have risks of everyday life this is no riskier.

The guide sang most of the way. My daughter loved seeing the baby elephants but wasn't sure about feeding the large ones.

If we were back there again I wouldn't hesitate to do another ride. We did it with Siam Safari. Not sure if they still exist.

I just checked and found that Siam Safari still exists. I have copied the latest review from Trip Advisor.

"This was a fabulous day out. Not just an elephant trek but a whole cultural experience. We enjoyed a coconut demonstration, Rice Demonstration and Curry Demonstration, followed by amazing Coconut pancakes, a ride on the water buffalo pulled dray and then onto see the baby elephants in action and see the rubber tapping show. Then off for a ride on the elephants. Truly amazing. Our Guide Oa was very funny and knowledgeable and made the day enjoyable. The buffet lunch after the trek was outstanding and of a very high standard with a good selection of delicious food. Highly recommend Siam Safari for your Elephant Trekking Experience."

This is what we did as well and I now remember that I was lucky enough to get a kiss from an elephant. It felt like a hairy vacuum cleaner.

We are thinking of doing this in Feb. How long did you spend in each place? How long was your elephant trek? I see they go from 20 to 50 min. Did they treat the elephants well? When you went in to see the tigers did you go in with the big ones or the small ones? Did you have a chance to compair with people who did Siam Safari Elephant Trek? Hope I haven't overloaded you with questions. This is a bit of a reach for me so I just want to be sure it's the right thing to do in Phuket.

We are on the Volendam for 28 days starting Feb 17th. So many interesting ports. It has been so much work trying to organize private tours and not a lot of activity on our roll calls. Appreciate your help.:)

I see you are going to Port Klang, Malaysia The tours do not let you go up the Towers as least the cruise we did we where on Princess so it is probably the same tours ,. We just took a cab over or the ship had a bus that dropped you off at the towers for the day . BUT if you do not buy tickets in advance it will sell out and you will miss it People on our ship could not get tickets at 9.18 in the am sold out  Here is link to but tickets in advance

Sirichai was great and accommodating. Brought us only to where we wanted to go (Pornthip, Kok Chang Safari, Tiger Kingdom, Rim Tang, Pearl Factory, Jungceylon Mall) and although he did give other suggestions, he did not push when we declined his offer. It was a comfortable safe ride in Phuket and we all enjoyed ourselves very much.

Is there anything you would skip on this itinerary if you ran out of time? Was there any place where you felt you could have used more time? Thanks
