Driving area around Port Everglades in FLL

So, it looks like we'll be doing a road trip from St. Louis MO to Fort Lauderdale. I was just wondering what the area is like around the port in Fort Lauderdale? Is it very busy like in Miami, or is it a really simple drive to the port like at Port Canaveral? We drove to Port Canaveral for our first ever cruise and it wasn't really a busy area at all.... We flew to Miami and road the hotels shuttle... it SEEMED it would have been a busy drive to the port. I'm hoping it'll be more like a simple drive to Port Canaveral then Miami.

Yes they have parking.

There is lots of signage and everything is clearly marked so you shouldn't have a problem.

You will be stopped by security and asked to show your cruise ticket and passport before you are allowed entry to the port.

There will be lots of traffic so just be patient and enjoy your cruise!

Greetings

At the current time driving in the port area is not easy. There is construction for the new FLL runways and there is construction for new port additions. The area around the port is a mess. Inside the gate area is fine, this affects the main entrance area.

This cruise doesn't require the passport, will showing them the cruise ticket and our IDs be good enough?

Also as for the construction going on around the port... we'll be sailing in about 3 months.. is the construction expected to last that long?

Port Everglades is different from PC and POM in that if you aren't cruising that day, they won't let you in at the checkpoints, so no, you can't take a dry run or a pleasure drive inside the port.

PC is very isolated and out in the middle of no where compared to PE. The area surrounding PE is very commercial with door to door hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and a busy route to a world famous beach that is almost next door to the port. There's lots of traffic, but it's not that hard to navigate. It's kind of like the area where Clayton Road, Brentwood and I-170 come together by the St Louis Galleria.

Photo IDs should be good enough.

The projects will take years to complete. If you use the north gate you may be able to avoid most the mess.

Good Sailing
