Wait List Chances?

As I am on a current wait list, can someone share their views on how to determine if the chance of being reached is good or remote?

Do you care to give us a hint as to which cruise you are on?

 

Are you looking for a specific cabin level or willing to accept anything? One way to monitor availability is to go to the website and "look for a cruise". Just look for the one you want.

 

If you see that all levels are booked or have waiting lists, the odds probably aren't very good. If it's close to the sailing date, the odds probably are not good. If the cruise is a year off, who knows?

 

It's really hard to advise, at least in my opinion. Sometimes a particular cruise sells very quickly but another one with a similar itinerary does not.

It entirely depends on how long away your cruise is scheduled. If it's a year out and the ship isn't fully booked, you will likely make it. If it is a month from sailing it's just a matter of luck.

Did you put down a deposit? People who put a deposit are ahead of those who did not make a deposit, so if you really want to go, then call your TA or Oceania and put down a deposit.

I put down a wait list deposit on a European cruise 7 months from now...

We 'd like a category C Ocean view, as verandas aren't in our budget range.

If you are looking at the O class ships [Marina and Riviera], Cat. C cabins are scarce - only 20 - and often are booked quickly. However, you can expect some people to cancel prior to final payment date.

If the more expensive categories are still open O will attempt to entice those already booked in C's to upsell to verandas and that will open up the C's. Also until final payment you cannot know.

I have seen cabin type listed as sold out so makes me think Oceania only puts the number on the wait list that they feel will clear.

My TA said that I'm number 6 on the wait list and thinks that I have a little better than 50-50 chance of being reached.

First of all, I was told to be on a wait-list I had to put down a deposit? So I did and soon other offers began to come my way by emails, not for the cruise I had booked on but on somewhat similar itineraries - at first for late season sails (Nov.) but then came one for one next spring that was great. So I "jumped ship" and I am very happy with what was offered me. So my advice is cross your fingers and see what might be offered while you waiting. A note - I booked on the website, hopefully your TA will pass along the offers - you might want to be pro-active and let her know, you are willing to entertain other options, if indeed you are.

I'm definitely going to have a second cruise as a Plan B, but also will book cancel-able pre-cruise hotels for the wait list one, if I find a good deal, in case it comes through..there are other enticing alternate cruises, so I'm not really worried...

I commend Oceania for having the transparency to indicate positions on the wait list.

I don't know if other lines have such disclosure...

Not good. I was wait listed no.8 on a tour and subsequently found out that there were only 11 places available for 600+ passengers. we didn't get the tour.

Good News! My T.A. contacted me again...I've been reached on the wait list for our cabin choice, so now I'm booked!

We are booked on the 4/5/14 sailing of the Marina to FP. I have a B-4 guarantee. Does anyone know when I might get a cabin assigned?

Could be tomorrow or could be when you arrive at the pier. Not to worry though you are definitely guaranteed to be assigned a cabin - just not when that will happen. Part of the GTY experience :)

Last year we didn't find out about our Oceania upgrade from GTY to veranda until boarding and entering the cabin...we were so happy!
