audobon_tx Posted November 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2013 How about a win-win? Put the piano back in the Mosaic, leave the TV where it is. Footballers are happy, traditional ACC passengers are happy, the pianist is happier, the Mosaic becomes a gathering spot again after the show. What's not to like? If people really want to sit in the near dark and read (?!) they can go to the library, or maybe back to their cabin, and I doubt that they constitute a majority of passengers. I don't buy the safety announcement excuse that was proffered in some earlier posts nor do I consider ingress/egress to be issues either (the piano was tucked in a corner in Mosaic). Perhaps we should vote on this so Bill Leiber can pass along our views. And be sure to fill out your passenger survey card during your next cruise. My vote: put the piano back where it was in the Mosaic and once again make that area a desirable place in the evening.

Spursgirl Posted November 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Flyingshoes, this is a no brainer. On my recent October Quest cruise nobody was reading in Mosaic in the evening. It was just a relatively empty soulless spot whereas during the day it is the heart of the ship. Is anyone in Miami listening?
nordski Posted November 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Flyingshoes, this is a no brainer. On my recent October Quest cruise nobody was reading in Mosaic in the evening. It was just a relatively empty soulless spot whereas during the day it is the heart of the ship. Is anyone in Miami listening? The only downside to the location in Mosaic, as I believe uktog earlier pointed out, is that on our earlier cruises we felt some discomfort walking between the keyboard and those sitting in the cafe. We felt intrusive. But, of course, there is an alternate route. We will add this crusade to our "Return the Harpists" campaign.

Nitemare Posted November 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2013 A cynic might think they've moved the piano to a place where it must fail, so they can say "we got rid of the piano as no one was enjoying the entertainment".

CintiPam Posted November 9, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) Because we had a group of 120 Kiwis onboard Quest during our September cruise, we heard the pianist only once because every single evening the lounge was packed solid with New Zealanders watching the big screen TV hoping to watch the NZ boat win its final race but instead watching America coming back each night to retain the Cup. Really disappointing to hear live music only at the nightclub show and White Nights party. Edited November 9, 2013 by CintiPam
shedridt Posted November 10, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2013 ....As I read all these posts about this - a big screen TV installed where once a pianist played in the evenings that is there because a very cruise centric group demanded it, I have to wonder WHY Azamara remains deaf to the many many pleas of their ordinary passengers to bring back harpists.... Bill....SURELY you can bring the incongruity of this to the attention of Cruise Management in Miami! How little it would take!!! Just bring a harpist on board ASAP & get the big screen TV out of the piano lounge! I should add that after YEARS of happy happy cruising, our upcoming cruise in January Singapore to Hong Kong will probably be our last for a long while. We want to explore other adventures, but are also put off by our favorite lines installing THEIR ideas of what we want into OUR experience. They seem increasingly to be divergent.... florisdekort Posted November 10, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I also think the piano should be thrown out of the casino. The casino bar can be a sports / tv bar given the screen that's already there. I'm fine with it coming back to Mosaic, but now that the harpists are gone, I'm also fine with it moving to Discoveries, where it first moved to on Journey. That was way better than the casino. florisdekort Posted November 10, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Just bring a harpist on board ASAP & get the big screen TV out of the piano lounge! You are turning things around. The TV isn't in the piano lounge, the piano now is in the Casino bar where the TV screen is (for live sports mostly). The piano should go back to Mosaic or Discoveries. (Not sure what the harpists have to do with the topic of this thread which is 'move the piano'.)
Spursgirl Posted November 10, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Agree Floris. While we may not have liked it, the removal of the harpists was a cost cutting exercise. To take the piano back to Mosaic or to Discoveries will cost nothing.

(Not sure what the harpists have to do with the topic of this thread which is 'move the piano'.) Spot on. If there is one thing about Azamara that I've learned and I've said it before, they do listen to their guests and if it isn't working they'll change it. As I understood it the original move of the piano on Quest was very much a trial following Jim Badger not being there. On Journey I think it is still in the Discoveries Lounge. I liked it there too. Nice soft music before dinner having a martini worked for me. Phil
ellbon Posted November 10, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 10, 2013 The piano was moved out of discoveries months ago per a guest. The Quest always had it in by the TV.. everyone but MIA hates it.. I went down in Feb to listen and got the super bowl with food. had same problems this summer. need to be moved asap. going to a long boring winter of trying to listen to MaX sitting on the floor as the chairs sucks. troywest Posted November 10, 2013 #17 Share Posted November 10, 2013 If they listen to passengers - as some have said: (1) Please bring the Piano back to the Mosaic. (2) Please bring back the harpist. (3) Since boiling in oil is no longer socially acceptable, fire the Miami wizard that implemented these changes. (Whose boating experience is probably limited to riding air boats in the swamp).
shoesonfire Posted November 10, 2013 #18 Share Posted November 10, 2013 We are joining in the call to move the piano out of the casino area. Our first place preference is for it to be moved to Discovery Lounge -- perfect place for a pre-dinner cocktail or after dinner digestive. Mosaic is ok as 2nd place choice. Hope this happens before our 12/8 cruise with plenty of time during the sea days of the TA to accomplish the move. Frank & Jan
audobon_tx Posted November 10, 2013 Author #19 Share Posted November 10, 2013 So far not one vote for placing the piano in the casino/tv area. It belongs where guests can enjoy it, and the ambience of Mosaic or Discoveries. Do ACC have an official comment about this? tvz
nonrev1 Posted November 10, 2013 #20 Share Posted November 10, 2013 We have filled out on every cruise comment card and post cruise survey that the piano needs to be moved back to Mosaic. It was always nice to sit in Mosaic after dinner and listen to music. We asked on several cruises about moving it back and they said that per Miami - it was not to be moved. The furniture in the casino/tv area is not comfortable - it is awkward sitting there when people are in the casino and when people are walking back and forth when a show is starting or ending. The move came when they decided to turn the tv area into a "pub" atmosphere. They removed some rows of slot machines and changed the furniture. Seriously.... a pub atmosphere????? The piano is too loud for discoveries just in front of the dining room. It needs to go back to Mosaic.

I have absolutely no say or input on items such as this. I cannot make any basis on whether the Piano works or not in it's current location, as I have not witnessed it in the new venue. With that said, we very much enjoyed the Piano entertainment when it was located at Mosaic, and I cannot imagine it being in a better place. It seemed perfect to us. I truly hope Azamara will find a way to return the Piano back to Mosaic. Should be an easy resolution, at least I think so ? :)

While I have no idea if they will consider the change, I strongly feel we should post our thoughts, so that Bill can share with Miami. Let's hope they will listen on this one, as it should be easy to accomodate, unless there's a reason we are unaware of. Hopefully, Bill can share some insights on this item.
