Golf Simulators

Looking at taking the plunge as it has been over a decade and my wife and I want to start doing a few of these (cruises) each year.

As an avid golfer, it seems that the golf simulators are becoming "not the norm" anymore.

Can anybody tell me which Celebrity ships have these still? And do any of the Solstice line offer them?

We are leaning towards the Solstice line after much of our research due to fitting of our tastes.

Take one of you clubs and get a bucket of ice. Swing away into the ocean.

.🎅🎄

As intriguing as that sounds (and who are we kidding, probably will happen), we loved the simulators on the last cruise we were on. This was so long ago and now that we are in a position to cruise more frequently, its something that can make the difference on ships for me.

We know the Disney line has them, but our next voyage we would like on Celebrity if possible.

Thats a real shame. Something we have enjoyed on other ships years ago, but apparently is going away on quite a few lines. For something that takes up so little space and could be a money maker, this surprises me, but that is why they make the decisions and not me evidently.

I think they were all removed from the Millennium Class ships and the Solstice Class never had them. From the beginning they were not that great -- I'm a 4/5 handicap and 6'2" -- my follow through with the Driver would hit the ceiling. I think there are some great itineraries where you could bring your sticks and play some excellent courses. Great courses in Bermuda, St Kitts, Jamaica, Cozumel, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Cancun, St Thomas, Roatan, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta…,

Celebrity is offering a nice California Coastal cruise on the Century this spring, with stops in Monterey, Santa Barbara, over-night in San Francisco, Ensenada, Catalina Island, and back to Los Angeles. You could put together a pretty nice Golf Excursion in those locations! As of late, I bring my golf clubs about every third cruise.

Enjoy!

Unfortunately Celebrity ships don't have them but Princess do.

I had one of my best golf lessons ever on board Emerald Princess. Who'd have thought having a golf lesson in the middle of the Caribbean would improve my game back in the UK!

Thankfully and fortunately I have had the luxury of playing golf at many of these destinations. All part of the job in some form or another and the sport that I love. The cruise side of it is to get away from that for the most part.

The simulator is more about having some fun with friends while the wives are at the pool relaxing or visiting the spa. Its quick, fairly accurate, and most of all fun. From what I have gathered most of the ships using them use the GC2 monitor, which is pretty darn accurate in terms of launch conditions, so it was an activity I was looking forward to during down time.

Sadly I dont think Celebrity will offer that for us.

For what it's worth, the grass on the "putting green" part of the lawn club is much much longer than any green or for that matter fairway. Fun for the kiddos but bears no relation to actual golf putting! I wish they would trim a portion of it to true greens length!

Or give us a small section of astroturf.
