scott4020 Posted December 12, 2013 #676 Share Posted December 12, 2013 I have to say that I find the Royal Princess a much better looking ship than the NCL Epic. Those NCL ships are so ugly I could never sail on one.
need2cruisesoon Posted December 12, 2013 #677 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Hey Dave: Next time you are in port and outside of the ship can you post some pics of the aft? I'm booked on Dolphin 729 for the Baltic next year and wanted to get look at that cabin and balcony.
CrusinQueen Posted December 12, 2013 #678 Share Posted December 12, 2013 DaveI see Pasta Arrabiata is on tonight's menu. I know you don't usually go to the dining room but if you have time tonight stop by and try some. It's my favorite thing on Princess. I usually ask them to make it for me several times. Also, if you can, could you ask if there is a Headwaiter on the ship named Rui. He's a wonderful outgoing guy that was "tapped" a couple of years ago to help roll out the new ship. If you run across him please ask him if he'll still be on the Royal in February. Thanks! Just got a email from Rui. He is at home in Portugal for the holidays. No reassignment yet for next year. He is one of my favorites also.

sunshine100 Posted December 12, 2013 #680 Share Posted December 12, 2013 I just came home with a new IPHONE 5 S...I hope I can take photos like yours!! They are magnificent![/quote That is probably cheaper than what we did today---we were on the 11-10-2013 sailing and we decided to book this cruise again! After reading this thread day after day, we realized that we missed a lot of things. (thanks to Dave's pictures!) We live in PA and are going to be in Florida for something on the 18th, so decided just to book this ship again! So, thanks Dave, and I hope we have another fantastic week on this lovely ship!! I can honestly say that the worst part of our cruise on Royal in November was getting off!;)
lynwar Posted December 12, 2013 #681 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Wow, what wonderful photos of the ships departing at dark....that is one of my favorite parts, and I bet you won the horn contest with the Love Boat Theme. :) If you ever produced a calendar with your photos or even a book, I would certainly buy it. Dave, you really captured the moments and scenes of your cruise, from such interesting perspectives. I'm sure that many of us didn't observe half of what you did. Thank you, again, for a wonderful trip with you. Lynne

I can get nearly as good photos in the darkness with my Blackberry Z10 and the I-phone has a somewhat better camera so no surprise that Dave's photos are pretty darn good.

He is one of my favorites also. Thanks. I'll email him when the trip gets closer. I think he has a huge following so I was hoping to find out without bothering him with another email. We cruise a lot in February and I find that a lot of my favorite staff get the the holidays off but are back for February cruises. :)
dmwnc1959 Posted December 12, 2013 #688 Share Posted December 12, 2013 The Wine Makers Table was simply amazing. We gathered in Vines at 6:45pm and the 12 of us were personally escorted by Head Waiter Franco to the Wine Cellar of the Concerto Dining Room. The wonderful ambiance, incredible food, excellent drink, and the shared experience are something that pictures could never adequately capture. It was a privilege to have been able to dine in such a gorgeous setting with good friends. I did try a Bushwacker up at Paradise Point yesterday in St. Thomas. It was pretty darned tasty, as was the Banana Daiquiri I had at Mountain Top. The All-Day ticket for the tramway costs $21 dollars. For me to be able to spend the amount of time I did up there... enjoy the view with some drinks, food, and great conversation... it literally was 'priceless'. Some people can drop a Benjamin in the casino and not think twice about it, but they'll not spend the money on the tramway or eating at the extra surcharge venues on the ship. You do what's important to you, and what enhances your cruise experience. Arrival into St. Martin was before sunrise, but still was light enough when we docked to get some decent pictures. Even though Allure of the Seas didn't arrive into St. Thomas until 3pm it docked at St. Martin before we did. The iPhone must have some pretty good sensors, but making sure you 'tap' the screen to ensure a proper exposure helps a lot. You can be looking at one particular scene, 'tap' in several different areas of the screen, and get a completely different range of over exposed or under exposed pictures. It takes some practice, a steady hand, and a lot of pictures to choose from to narrow it down the better images. I can only see the starboard side of Allure OTS, but that side has all her lifeboats. The inspirational quotes in the elevator are fun to read. Someone commented the other day that they were a stupid idea since people are always standing on them and they couldn't read them. I don't seem to have that problem. Not sure what I'm doing today. Ate an early breakfast after we docked and spent some time relaxing at the Horizon Terrace where it was nice and quiet. I'll disembark long enough today to get some bow shots at pier level. The stern is near the end of the dock so I'll get some pictures back there too. sunsetbeachgal Posted December 12, 2013 Author #693 Share Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) Dave...read on a Facebook post by another passenger on board the Royal that someone won $57,000 in a penny slot machine last night...we were hoping it was you, but guess not.. ;) Also read on a thread on the RC board that the Allure arrived at St. Thomas several hours late as you pointed out due to a lifeboat problem, but departed St. Thomas as scheduled. I Can't imagine with only three or so hours there especially docked at Crown bay that there was barely enough time to disembark, get into town and back, and not enough to get to the beach or take a tour...the poster said everyone was given onboard credit in varying amounts depending on the cabin class booked. They got $250, friends got $500. Edited December 12, 2013 by sunsetbeachgal
Pia1913 Posted December 12, 2013 #694 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Nice to see my cousin Franco doing the wine dinner. He's usually a permanent fixture at Alfredo's. Question: There are those who drink only red wine and those who drink only white. Which white were they serving; Sauv Blanc or Pinot?

Can't wait to try one on the Regal next fall. Do you know how many different menus they have? Didn't know the focusing tip about the iPhone. So often you just start using a product and don't study all of the features.

alexmom Posted December 12, 2013 #698 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Dave, beautiful pictures at the Havensight dock in St Thomas. You should put a calender out of all your scenic pictures and start selling it. When I was on the Royal for the Nov. 3rd cruise, I stopped in the gift store onboard and asked about Princess calendars. Do you know Princess does not have calenders. You would think they would at least put one out with pictures of their ships. Thanks for your time and talent, really enjoying the second leg of your adventure as the first week. Cheers - Ken & Darlene This is a GREAT idea and I think Princess should pay attention to it ! Dave's photos would look great in a calendar, as well as his friend Andrew's, which Dave posted in his Everything Royal thread.
