Argh. This thread so comes off as rather smug, in my opinion, and I am not a smoker.

One poster is already having anxiety that the rules will be disobeyed on the balconies.

Chip I usually enjoy your posts, and can appreciate that you are thrilled to pieces, but must this topic be resurrected? Again?? I know I don't have to read it. Nor do I have to comment. But I choose to.

Err I never said that I was a non smoker, what I did say was that I was looking forward to enjoying a drink in a non smoking location.

In the UK and many other parts of the world, smoking is not allowed in Bars and Restaurants, smokers have to go outside.

I find that that creates a more comfortable environment for all to enjoy.:)

Therefore I am looking forward to the new policy starting. :D

Errr, because this thread was started by a non-smoker who is looking forward to cruising when the new policy starts. :)

Thank you, but as you state you choose to read the thread and comment, in the same way that I choose my own topics for my threads. The resurrection as you put it, is only brought about by change of policy being on Jan 1st,

therefore for most ships, on their next cruise.

This in turn will create positive and negative responses from cruisers. My post was to highlight the date ( which naturally goes hand in hand with the subject matter ) and my own thoughts about it. So the answer to your question, appears to be YES.:D

If we all followed your logic about no threads to be started on subject matters that might have previously been covered, then these pages would be very light on new threads

Well I'm not a regular smoker but most certainly enjoy a good stogie with a fine glass of wine. I'm reading the tarot cards here and sensing I may have a problem on Oasis in Feb if that's what I choose to do. Sad.

Ex smoker here but still enjoy a fine cigar with a great wine. Been a couple years or more since I had one but the balcony is somewhere I can see lighting up so...

Smoking was never allowed in Central Park or Boardwalk areas so you won't notice any difference there. You will probably notice the difference though in Boleros and in the Pub (smoking was allowed at the bar).

Be prepared though if you are out by the pool deck...I expect there will be lots more walls of smoke if you walk along the smoking side as folks won't have their balconies to smoke on they will need to go there to light up.

(I have my onesie all ready for QN :D)

At night I would expect the casino to be a lot more smoky on the smoking side, if the weather is bad I would guess the casino will become "the" place for smokers.

Which side is the 'smoking side'? Is it the same for all RCI ships?

Most RC ships do have a cigar "club" so to speak. It will be noted in the Compass. On Oasis is is called Cigars under the stars, so hopefully what ever ship you are on you can enjoy your stogie and vino with like minded people. You will also have happy neighbours.

I've taken 8 cruises with Royal Caribbean since 2001 and never had any issues with balcony smokers. I will be sailing on the Oasis next month and I don't expect to notice any difference because of the policy change.

I agree with you,we have had ten Royal cruises. Also never had a problem with smoke on my balcony.I say enjoy your cruise and let other people enjoy theirs.:)

You probably mean Derek Lewis who was the entertainer in the Schooner Bar out of Galveston on the Rhapsody and then the English Pub on Voyager, both non smoking venues. He didn't continue on the Mariner which took Voyager's place in Galveston, since the pub was a smoking venue. He was wonderful and had a loyal following. Maybe now he'll be back on the Navigator. Nothing like his adult child care at night :);)

Ah...yes Derek Lewis. He did say he had tried to get RCCL to make the pub on the Mariner non-smoking, but no go and neither was he a go then. He mentioned until they could offer him a non-smoking venue then it was a deal breaker. Saw a bit of him on the Voyager and also on the Rhapsody in Alaska when he was on there. Is he still around? Perhaps on the Navigator now with the change of rules? He was very entertaining.

Last I heard, Derek was on another cruise line, whose name escapes me. He did say to contact the Cruise Directors to get him back on Royal.

Just 3 days before the new smoking regulations start on Royal ships, and I for one am really looking forward to enjoying a smoke free drink at some of my favourite bars..:D

Yes I know the smoking thing has been bashed over and over again, but if other people can post about their joy of receiving cruising docs, I can post about how this will enhance our cruising experience.

Unfortunately I also know friends that will reconsider their cruising options because of this, as the new policy is quite clear that smoking will be banned in all interior public areas ( with the exception of The Cigar Lounge and parts of the Casino ). With Central Park and The Broadwalk being considered as interior space on The Oasis class of Ships.

It will be interesting to see how the new rules work out on The Allure on her first sailing under these new regulations, as I will be on that cruise I will report back for those interested.

.

As of our November 10th sailing on Allure, smoking was not allowed in either Baleros or the Promenade Pub. The only indoor areas were the casino, and a portion of Blaze, as I recall. Our sailing was the 1st with new smoking restrictions. Also, while refueling in St. Maarten, smoking was not allowed on any outdoor public decks for the majority of the day.

Just plain rude!! From a non-smoker.

Too bad. Make smarky comments like smokers are going to cruise and I reply to you TOO BAD!!! You wont be missed. Ships will sail as full as before. Prob do better since non-smokers wont be bothered by others addiction. From a non-smoker too

Here's what really worries me......

What about those people who will undoubtedly break the rules and smoke on their balcony anyways......where will the cigarette butts go since there will definitely be no ashtrays????:eek:

I will be sailing on the Legend on January 3. If my neighbours are smoking on their balcony I will politely remind them once of the new policy. The second time I will take a photo with my iPhone and call security.

Yep pretty rude! From another non-smoker.

Now if we could get rid of cruise snobs, drunks, loud talkers, gum chewers, and so on...

I agree 100% . being a smoker or nonsmoker does not define who you are as a person, but being rude does.

Fantastic thanks for that. We will be great neighbors to whomever has a balcony next to us!

Chip-I am looking forward to reading your report from Oasis.

I will be sailing (in a balcony) on Allure in 3 weeks. As a smoker, I know I cannot smoke on my balcony.

I am concerned with the amount of smoke in the casino and how that impacts the dining room.

I know they have previously implemented the lessened smoking indoors (eliminated Bolero's and the pub). I assume Blaze will be out starting 1/1/14, leaving only the casino as the indoor venue and the only venue near the entertainment/bars with no outdoor promenade available--unlike most other RCI ships. It seems to me our only choice is running to the casino rather than taking that few steps outside. I can't imagine I'll want to take an elevator to the pool deck when I'm enjoying entertainment on the inside of the ship. With that, the casino normally is smoky anyway, but now it seems like it will be much worse??

If for any reason anyone sticks a camera around the balcony divider and starts taking pictures, consider that camera in the water.

Or. You could respect the ship's new smoking policy. I will still have my cell phone to snap a picture of you waving good bye at the next port.

I'm so glad that on January 1st Royal Caribbean will be smoke free on the balconies and public areas. Now we can really breathe fresh air and hope that the smokers will keep to the designated smoking areas.

I have allergies and high sensitivity to the tobacco smoke so this is great that we can breathe easy on Royal.
