re trip insurance (if the OP had purchased it), we pick it up every trip but plans differ as to coverage & exclusions. Prescription meds and glasses could possibly fall into that category.

And this is probably why you will never receive your items back :(.

I wish people would do the right thing more often and make a legitimate attempt to retuns items that people accidentally leave behind, not just on the ship but everywhere. In this case, with it being found in your cabin and your name being on the prescriptions, it wouldn't be that hard to find you.

Good luck and hope it turns out for you.

My mom left a souvenir shopping bag with a bunch of ornaments/t-shirts on the bed on our family Monarch cruise in the hustle of trying to get my grandparents ready to disembark. When we went to get of the ship security put her card through to disembark and told her to go to GS before they'd let her off the ship.

The room steward had found it and ran it there so it wouldn't get left behind. I guess it all depends on the steward. We were all thankful he was kind enough to take the time to do that even though we all know how crazy turn-around day is.

I hope your bag shows up and you'll get your items returned!

This is not THEFT, as you left your bag on their ship. A theft means they came into your room while you occupied such room, and the person took your belongings without your permission... Finders keepers!

Absolutely ridiculous.

OP - unfortunate to hear, but it appears to happen all the time and while disembarking Legend of the Seas off a Med cruise in 2009, a pair of sunglasses was left in the cabin. Realised not 5 minutes later, before exiting the ship, turned around went back to the room. The steward was cleaning the room, she had entered as soon as we had left, and the glasses were no where to be found.

Thankfully for me, I have no issues in purchasing another pair of sunglasses but it's quite disillusioning to think that some people in this world have that "finders keepers" mentality. On the plus side, karma sets these things straight in the long run and I usually enjoy those moments more. :D

Things are returned even without a report. I noticed my drivers license missing once back on the ship so went to guest relations and asked. She said to come back daily to see if anyone turned it in before we got off the ship. Nope :( Two months later I received an envelope in the mail from Royal and sure enough it was my drivers license. :D To my luck I have a passport otherwise getting off would have taken much longer without the drivers license.

Oh we also found the keys to a mercades when we opened our safe. Customer relations ran the keys to get them off the ship before we left port.

My hubby forgot his wallet in the safe when we left Freedom in the summer, it took them over two hours to bring it to me while I sat on the curb outside the diamond doors. After my sugars had dropped to a 3 and my diabetes started to make me dizzy and the temp continued to sit at over 100 I FINALLY got the wallet back.

I wrote an email to tell them ( RCCL) how terrible I found their lost and found services to be.

They agreed and offered me some compensation towards our next cruise.

I know for us, they came through with a wonderful customer service rep and we ended up feeling heard which was really all I wanted.

Chass

YOU forgot the wallet. While cleaning 1500 rooms with hundreds of employees in a matter of hours, they managed to locate and get it back to you within a couple hours, and you COMPLAINED!?!?!??! Sounds like good customer service right there, I would have been grateful for them finding something important I'd been careless enough to leave behind. Would never occur to me to COMPLAIN about it........

Yet another example of an unwarranted complaint being rewarded.

Let this be a lesson to everyone to double, triple check the room before you leave!
When I was in the boy scouts many many years ago we were taught to back out of the camp ground. By this when everything was packed up and out of the area the last thing we would is check for anything left, and then the scout master would make us do it again a second time. Then I thought is was a waist of time, but to this day I have never left anything in a motel room, ship, or any other place.

I have not read all the replies, but, when I fly/cruise, I "always" take out insurance coverage. I don't know if you did this or not, but after an amount of time, you do not get anything back from RCCL, I would definately file a claim if you have insurance coverage. They lost ALL our luggage except what we carried on for 3 1/2 days. I won't go into all the details, but I was glad we had insurance coverage at that time.

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone needs a big dose of self responsibility. If you do not leave it behind...

I left my toiletry bag in the bathroom of my stateroom when disembarking Brilliance of the Seas. I was told I could not get back on as I had cleared customs. As directed, I contacted Lost and Found while the Brilliance of the Seas was still in port at Tampa. They told they would investigate and get back to me. That was a week ago. I called Lost and Found 3 times this week and was told I would get a call back. To date, I have never received any call back from RCCL.

This is troubling as I had a large quantity of narcotics for chronic pain in my bag. My new $1200. eyeglasses was also in the bag.

I am totally disgusted with RCCL for their lack of any communications with me. Their lack of customer service to a loyal cruiser is unacceptable.

Any advice for me from the Cruise Critic community is appreciated

you left $1200 glasses and narcotics in your room and you are disgusted with RCI?

Wow. It is THEFT if someone took it and kept something that wasn't theirs. However, the OP is also responsible.

That said, you do realize that the term "finders keepers" isnt a real rule and was made up by someone who wanted something that wasn't their's, right?

While I empathize with you, I think at this point it's unlikely you will ever see your belongings again. You should definitely keep trying, because you never know, but at the same time you should be making arrangements to replace your medication and your glasses.

I do think your title is quite misleading. Royal Caribbean didn't lose your bag. You lost your bag by forgetting it. For Royal Caribbean to have lost your bag, it would have had to be under their supervision in the first place.

I agree!

A few years ago I left my Ipod under the bedside table, I realize just after debark but had to call the cruiseline direct, I didnt expect to get it back and I didnt.

It was "my fault" as I left it there not the cruiesline for not returning it to me.

I even believed at the time that the steward may have taken it last night:rolleyes:

When you think of the amount of left items on every cruise then you cant really expect a priority return or any return at all.

You also cannot accuse anyone of stealing because you can never be 100% sure where you lost your item or you would still have it:)

Canam778, you wrote your post this morning, stating that you contacted Lost and Found "a week ago." Did you email, or call (800) 256-6649, opt. 2? Regardless, RCI Lost & Found advises to allow five business days for them to respond. Calling them 3 times this week doesn't merit a call back yet. I know that you are anxious for an update, but would recommend having a bit of patience.

I was contacted by HAL about my prescription glasses FIVE months after losing them on a cruise. (Had my busn. card in the case). I don't know where they were all that time, but nice to have them returned! I hope that you will eventually get your bag and contents back.

Things we can learn from this situation…

Never travel with a "large amount" of narcotics. (or any Rx) Just pack what you will need for the length of your cruise - no need to have a large surplus. If you had done this, you wouldn't have lost a "large amount" after your cruise - just one or two pills at most.

Something of value should be treated like something of value! If you spend $1200 for a pair of glasses, don't throw them in a toiletry bag in the bathroom. Wear them. Or keep them in a proper glasses case, mark the case with your name and contact info, and keep the glasses case in your purse or in your pocket. Or keep them in your carry-on bag. But don't put them in a bathroom bag.

I do understand how you feel! I have done stuff like this before. You are angry, but you're really angry at yourself for not packing your toiletry bag and bringing it home safely. Sometimes when we are angry at ourselves for doing something dumb, we tend to take it out on others. Being angry at RC and blaming them for not finding your bag in the bathroom is a good example of this. Blaming your room steward for stealing your prescription drugs is another example. You left the bag. You did not take it with you. It wasn't stolen, you just accidentally left it behind. Now you're mad because somebody didn't FIND it. Accidents happen...Forgive yourself!

And lastly, a Lost and Found department on a cruise ship probably does not operate nearly as efficiently as other operations on the ship. On a ship with 3000+ people, probably 500 or more items are left behind on any given cruise. I doubt if there are any full time Lost and Found staff. There are probably a number of people who have some part-time responsibility for the lost and found stuff. Turn-around day is the worst/hardest day of the week for everybody on the ship, and it's likely that the big boxes of lost and found stuff that are generated by a cruise are not the highest priority. That stuff may not even get unloaded until the end of the next cruise. So a week without a response might be understandable. Be patient - you may get your toiletry bag back, but it will likely take some time.

I've had so many patients tell me they lost their narcotics and therefore need another prescription, I guess it really can happen!

At the same time I have had many patients come in to the pharmacy claiming that they "spilled their meds down the sink". Always narcotics and never diuretics or statins or anything of that nature.

I am very skeptical when narcotics, especially large quantities are "lost" or "stolen".

Well there was that viral story of the Disney crew member that posted photos of himself and other crew members to the passenger's "cloud" account from that lost (left in cabin) Iphone.

Here's a link: http://travel.usatoday.com/cruises/post/2012/05/disney-wonder-stolen-iphone/700211/1

And I have to add, that I think for the most part, stateroom attendants are very, very honest about passenger possessions.

I lost/left my glasses in their case at the Aquatheater on the Allure. No more than ten minutes passed before I knew they were gone and went back to look for them to no avail. Luckily I had a identical case in a different color to show Guest Services what the lost one looked like and got the lost one back. They have found property log which lists the date, time, location, and description of the found property and a signature is required to your stuff back. I thought it was organized fairly well. What happens in the cabins might be a different story.

I left my toiletry bag in the bathroom of my stateroom when disembarking Brilliance of the Seas. I was told I could not get back on as I had cleared customs. As directed, I contacted Lost and Found while the Brilliance of the Seas was still in port at Tampa. <snip>

One cruise, I discovered at the airport that we were missing a small bag of our luggage.

I was positive that it was left in the pickup area of the terminal. I could picture it sitting there with the rest of our bags. Basically, although instructed to take it, one of my children ignored me. (surprise, surprise)

I called RC from the airport. They advised me, too, to contact Lost & Found. But I KNEW that it was just in the terminal. I was told that I was NOT allowed back in the terminal, as you were advised.

But I didn't let it sit there.

I kept talking and talking and talking to them, and they finally agreed to meet me at the door of the terminal.

I took a cab BACK to the port from FLL (people in line for cabs were VERY nice about letting me go to the front of the line when I explained the situation), told the cab driver to WAIT for me. I went to the door of the terminal, where I was again told that I could not come back in.

I insisted that I was told that someone from RC was supposed to meet me there and take me back in.

The security guard went inside, and brought back someone from RC, who listened to my description, went back inside, and indeed saw our bag sitting exactly where I had described, looking exactly as I had described.

I got my bag back, leaped into my waiting cab, and zoomed back to the airport, in plenty of time to make our plane.

Phew.

But it worked.

Just my story.

:)

Apparently I have some sort of hotel room/cabin OCD. I triple check, DH triple checks, the kid triple checks. And then we check everything again. Haven't ever lost anything thankfully.

That's us! :D Or at least that's my DH. He makes me check and recheck. We are the stateroom that you do not want to be next to because late on the very last night of the cruise, and after packing, we are going through all the drawers and cabinets more than once. Bang, Boom and Bump!

And I am sure perhaps a staff member was walking around with my ipod unless they didnt clean under the bed side tables.

From memory it took around 2 weeks to get a response stating the ipod was not found.

But I still can only blame myself as i will never be 100% sure where I left the Ipod unless I re found it myself.

I believe many things left in a cabin end up in the trash if of no interest to the staff member! Who would have time to document each found item from each cabin while flat out preparing for the next guest? Then take the time to take it all to a lost property dept all while the next guest is pestering you for a nice clean cabin at 10am

A $1200 pair of prescription glasses would be seemingly worthless to a person who may not wear glasses as would medication of any sort they may be unfamiliar with. A wallet containing Dollars or jewellery would and therefore more likely to be handed into lost property.

I buy cheap snorkelling gear every cruise and leave them in the cabin, I just presume they are thrown in the trash?
