overthesea Posted January 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2014 Had read several posts that the Royal Princess had new beds which were pillow top. Just read a review that said the beds were hard. Which is it for ones that have sailed on Royal.

Which is it for ones that have sailed on Royal. This brings to mind the Princess and the Pea :D Most reports are that people are very comfortable. They are new mattresses on a new ship. Not all mattresses are for everyone. Same with pillows. There will be someone that will not be satisfied.
Rare 5:00_Somewhere Posted January 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2014 I cannot say whether or not they were "pillow top", but I do recall commenting that they were the most comfortable mattresses we've ever had on a cruise ship, and we did not even need to ask for an egg crate foam topper, as we usually do. capriccio Posted January 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2014 We were in a suite and the bed was the most comfortable we have had on Princess - and we've had the 'new' pillow-tops on a number of other ships in both suites and mini-suites. Astro Flyer Posted January 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2014 I enjoyed 18 nights sleeping on a Royal Princess mattress & it was the best I've had on any ship. :)
CI66774 Posted January 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2014 Was on the Royal in December (in a min-suite). Incredibly comfortable bed!!!

Pam in CA Posted January 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2014 I've taken six Princess cruises in the last two years and every one except for my recent Sapphire Princess cruise had pillowtop mattresses and were very comfortable. The Royal had the most comfortable with firm support (better for your back) and soft pillowtop.
ne1travel Posted January 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Just sailed last week on Royal...loved the beds, slept like a baby.
emileg Posted January 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We were on the Royal two weeks ago in a deluxe balcony cabin. The mattresses had pillowtops and were very comfortable. However, the pillows were very thick and hard. Think bags of cement. However, our stateroom steward was able to locate two softer acceptable pillows. In all fairness, my wife, who likes firm pillows, was quite comfortable with them. At home, I always tease her about her bags of cement.:)
quincytoo Posted January 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I loved our bed on the Royal cruise Jan 12-19, most comfortable bed yet on a cruise. :)

kdkmilwaukee Posted January 31, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 31, 2014 The bed was amazing! My husband prefers a harder mattress, and I prefer a pillow top/softer mattress. We both agreed that the bed was so comfortable! The pillows were great as well. Wish I knew what kind they were - we'd buy several in a hot minute! Pam in CA Posted January 31, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Everyone is different when it comes to the type of bed they like.I agree. That's why there are mattress stores with many different types and styles. :) People have raved for years about the HAL and Celebrity mattresses but for me, they were too soft and triggered painful sciatica on every HAL and Celebrity cruise. If I take a cruise on them, I know to bring a big bottle of IB as well as pain medicine and muscle relaxants if the IB doesn't work.
