If you are currently on Rhapsody

Recommended Posts

Hi, we sail on Rhapsody in about 4 weeks & wanted to know if any one can advice the current movies they are showing? I don't want to watch them on the Pay TV extras options if I can see them on board.:D

Also, any sign of Noro like currently reported on Voyager?

What are the current theatre production shows, hopefully different than on Radiance which have now seen many times?

Thanks. :)

Don't know about the movies but as far as the Noro goes ...no problems........as long as everybody does the right thing...... And by the way, according to the letter we gave out to guests, it was not a Noro virus on the Voyager but a Gastro bug.....same thing...just the other end I guess :D:D

Sailed last month and they weren't that exciting. Hunger Games 1, RIPD, and similar ages. No 'new releases' as such.

Yes, they are never brand new releases that's for sure. but we don't go to the movies that much as we tend to watch them on the Pay TV Box Office channel which is about the same as DVD releases & what is on the ships EG RIPD is on Box Office now.

So if we know what is currently playing on board we will avoid watching it on Box Office.:)

I'll be interested to hear your impression of Rhapsody post dry dock.

We got off Radiance yesterday and are talking about sailing on her again in October.

Well as you know we are love our Radiance as well, but the JR Suite deal on this cruise on Rhapsody was too good to pass up & since Rhapsody is set to leave Australia we thought it would be good to try her out.

I'm sure we will enjoy what she has to offer & I will try to remember to come back here & post a review for you.

How did your latest craft cruise go? Planning to do another?

So, how many kms did you cycle during your cruise? ;)

By the way, your efforts spurred me to get off my butt and back onto my exercycle. Just thought I'd let you know. My right knee, as well as the rest of me, thanks you :)

We sailed early December, some of the movies either on the big screen or in the theatre were:

Grown Ups2, The Great Gatsby, White House Down, Planes, The Proposal, Girl Most Likely, The Lone Ranger, After Earth, Iron Man 3, Red 2.

They also had several live concert broadcasts from the states such as the U2 concert.

Standard production show included Piano Man but they also had a Country & Western show and a Ballroom Fever dance show.

Not to be missed, and get in early for a seat, is the Aerial Performance, Baroque, performed in the Centrum.

Rhapsody is a very nice ship, we cruised on Rhapsody in October 2012 (seems like only last year ….) and she had been refurbed in April/May 2012. $53m was spent adding speciality restaurants - Chefs Table, Chops, Izumi and Giovanni's plus Park Cafe, complete re-carpet, beds and stateroom fit out with flat screen TVs etc. The intended to install iPads in each room but I don't think that ever happened (maybe for suites but not in October when we cruised and we stayed in a Royal Family Suite). They also added Concierge and Diamond Lounges and some new bars.

Like I said a really nice ship with a great crew. Here is a link to RCI's refurb brochure …

As other posters have said, its rumoured Rhapsody is leaving Australia from 2015, so grab a good deal while you can.

I have never had the time to watch a movie on a cruise:confused:

Well that's the beauty of cruising, something for everyone!:)

I don't spend anytime in the casino, the bingo, the outside pool, or sit long at any bar, but I use the solarium pool, play trivia, use the gym & enjoy the shows & movies.

Plus I find every cruise I do is different, some we do some activities a lot but hardly do them on the next cruise - every cruise takes on a life of it's own.

Also last cruises we were on board for 27 days straight & had been on board for 7 days prior just a week before. The more time you have the more varied activities you end up doing I think.

Sailed late Dec and the list had completely changed, as above. I wonder how often they change them.

They also had several live concert broadcasts from the states such as the U2 concert.

Interesting. We had the NYE fireworks as a one-off so didn't think they'd do others. First time I've had that on the ship.

Thanks Hugh.

Good to hear they have some different production shows to see & I'm looking forward to the aerial show.:)

Xmas 2013 onboard movies were: Jobs (Steve Jobs drama), Pacific Rim, RIPD, Apollo 13, A Muffet Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, Easy A, The Green Lantern, Hunger Games. Movies were shown in the theatre at 1pm or outside pool screen in the eve.

Production Show (as above) Piano Man, Pure Country and Ballroom Fever. For the 7pm Show you didnt need to get there early. The three of us would get a seat easily when we arrived at 6.55pm.

Best spot to watch the Aerial Performances is the outside the Excursions Desk or lower. We waited for one hour on the deck above and had an obstructed view.

100% correct & that's the attraction for us of cruising.

hey, avalon sorry to go off-topic, but I see in your sig that you did Radiance Alaska/Hawaii/Sth Pacific last year. We are doing similar this year but on Rhapsody in Aug/Sep/Oct. Did you do these 3 B2B2B? If so, how did they handle changeover day(s). We are keen to do Pearl Harbour on turnaround day & want to make sure we can do that and still re-board in time to sail to Sydney.

Thanks, Neil

Off topic but I'm answering a direct question...

I didn't keep track of the distance I cycled during the cruise but I got to the gym about half of the days "home" gym this morning.

Oh boy! I think DW felt it more than I did, though.

We had a blast! The highlight was the day at Lifou where we went snorkelling and fed the fishes in the morning and rode off road buggies in the afternoon.

Craft wasn't as well attended as we would have liked but this itinerary attracted a younger demographic, lots of first time cruisers and a far few Uni students. Also we think it could have been better promoted in the Compass. And our sessions tended to clash with other activities.

We're hoping to cruise again in October.

Hi Neil,

We did the Alaska Cruise/Tour Southbound which ended in Vancouver, it was the 2nd last cruise of the Alaska season so we spent a week in Canada before reboarding Radiance.

The changeover day for the Hawaii/Repositioning cruise in Honolulu worked very well. We got off early using our existing sea pass as we had decided to do a day at Hanauma Bay Marine Park, then on our return to the ship mid afternoon we just boarded easily as you don't have to line up because they give you a special pass.

On boarding we then received our new sea passes, which were waiting for us at the check in point.

If we had stayed on board longer they would have issued our new sea passes on board. You should have plenty of time to see pearl harbour either way if the ship doesn't depart until early evening.

If you can swing it I highly recommend adding a few days in a cruise tour or DIY tour prior to your cruise in Alaska, as it's inland that you get to see some of the best Alaska has to offer- Talkeetna -Mt McKinley & Denali National Park were outstanding highlights for us.

Not sure if you have been to Pearl recently, but we spent all day there and still didnt cover everything. So get there as early as possible. Apart from the Arizona Memorial, you could spend half a day on the mighty Mo alone, absolutely a must visit. We didnt have time to get to the Aviation Museum, so that will be on the list in August on our way to Alaska.

The memorial visiting hours have been reduced to finish about 1pm due to reduced staffing. Get yourself an all day passport on-line.

Sorry to go off topic.

Hugh

Just wondering for those who are currently on board. Did you get to stop at Mystery Island this week, or is the jetty still damaged? We're on the next cruise out this weekend and was really hoping to get to Mystery Island this time.

Thanks for your replies avalon007 & cassamanda - very helpful.

We have never been to Hawaii before, so PH will be new to us, but we want to see it for sure.

We are doing a 7N land self-drive pre-tour of Canadian Rockiesbefore boarding in Seattle.

Happy crusing.

Got off Radiance last Friday, 14th Feb, and we missed Mystery Island.

Hi Sparky74, did you go to another island instead or just cruise around for the day?

We had a Sea Day instead but we had a longer stay at Champagne Bay on the following day. I think we were supposed to be at Champagne Bay from noon to 7pm but arrived at about 7am instead. It's a great place to have a full day.
