golfusaofcs Posted February 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I know this may have been answered before. So excuse me if I am repeating something that has been answered on this forum. My wife and I are taking our 2 year old on Oasis in May. We previously cruised with him on the Silhouette, and we ate in all specialty restaurants with a warm welcome from the crew, in fact they did not charge for him!!! I have just noticed in reading some of the daily compass from Oasis that only children 13 and older are welcome in the specialty dining other then before 6:30?? This doesn't make sense!!! Also please do not state your personal opinions about children in there!! It is not an option to place him in Kids Care!! I find if this is the case to be surprising in that Royal and Celebrity have there clientele fixed up!!! We really planned on eating in all but 150, please help!! Kezzie62 Posted February 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2014 No children under 13 after 6:30pm is the rule. There are lots of choices where young children are welcome after 6:30pm. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
leaveitallbehind Posted February 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) No children under 13 after 6:30pm is the rule. There are lots of choices where young children are welcome after 6:30pm. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Not according to RCI. Following is from their FAQ webpage: "Children with a parent or guardian are welcome in our specialty restaurants throughout serving hours. The only exceptions are Chef's Table which requires all guests to be 21 years of age or older, and 150 Central Park which requires families with children under 13 years of age to dine before 7 p.m. Reservations can be made online or onboard at the restaurant based on availability" The OP should print a copy of this from their webpage and take it with them on board should there be any questions. Dharma517 Posted February 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2014 That is the rule and it makes perfect sense to me. Simply eat earlier if you want to eat there. Best, Mom of

Kezzie62 Posted February 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2014 From RCCL website Q: Are children allowed to dine in our Speciality Restaurants?A: Chops Grille and Portofino Parties including children under 13 years of age may only reserve tables for before 7 p.m. Thereafter these restaurants are restricted to guests aged 13 and over. All guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Ken at the beach Posted February 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2014 As others have stated children are welcome at any time with the exception of Chefs Table and 150 Central Park. As to whether they will charge you that us something that you may have to find out on board. I know that they have not charged for infants but they may or may not class a 2 YO as an infant. I would think that it would depend on what is being ordered. If you are getting a plate of pasta with butter I would hope that they are not charging you. Enjoy your meal.:)
golfusaofcs Posted February 21, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hmm, Lots of conflicted information!!! I noticed on someones dailies, it showed when the ship was formal they had to be over 13 however no mention when the ship wasn't formal. I will call!!! BTW my son is on a crazy late schedule, but it works for us!! eating before 6:30 is not going to happen!! I will be extremely disappointed if this is the case

Live from there website!!! I guess they can't change that on us!! Also when i try and book them online, It list's my son and his age and allows me to purchase. I would bet it would not allow to book 150 Central Park after 7.

Rare LMaxwell Posted February 21, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 21, 2014 What does RCI charge for youngsters in specialty dining? I believe on NCL that kids up to 13 were charged 1/2 price if they ate from the specialty dining menu, or were free if they ordered off a kids menu. Is RCI similar in this regard? Are kids charged full fare and provided the specialty menu only?

golfusaofcs Posted February 21, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Kezzie I believe that!!! Its just funny because I noticed this on a pretty recent compass from the Oasis!!! I would be raising Hell if this was the case if I was on board!! The upgraded dining is a big part of our experience when we cruise. Now I just have to see if I could get my son to behave for 2 hours at 150 if we choose to dine before 7. I would really like to try it!! I wonder if they could speed up the meal if we asked them to? I have seen some dated printed material being handed out on other ships as well with the last being this past December on the Liberty. The casino was handing out rules and regulations for the slot tournament that were over a year old. I think that sometimes someone finds a stack of old material and does not realize that it's old and just puts it out when really it should have been used up long ago or thrown out. Mapleleafforever Posted February 21, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 21, 2014 You'll be ok dining with your son at any time in the specialty restaurants (except 150) and the staff will most definitely dote on him. Have fun and kudos for involving your son and hopefully introducing him to different foods and tastes.

spookwife Posted February 21, 2014 #24 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Are children always charged at specialty restaurants? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Forums mobile app assume they will be. regardless of what they eat or do not eat. much like kids being charged full price after age 2 on airplanes and at buffets, they take up a seat. the being charged full price also discourages people from bringing very young children who are not socially mature enough to handle these kinds of experiences. if you do not get charged, or get charged less consider it some unexpected luck.
