Bodogbodog Posted March 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2014 These photos appeared in Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper - pretty innovative photo shoot I thought! http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/travel/holiday-ideas/the-captain-of-the-queen-mary-2-gets-close-to-his-ship-like-never-before/story-fnjjv4qx-1226847634863

scifisteve Posted March 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Cunard had them on their FB page this morning, but without the article. Saved one as my wallpaper. Edited March 7, 2014 by scifisteve

alibabacruisers Posted March 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2014 Wow, what great photos! I looked at the first one thinking it was the only one and wondering "how did they do that"? Then I looked at the next shots...had to laugh.:D They did a great job! Thanks for posting!
Oahucruiser Posted March 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2014 Awesome but I'm glad it wasn't I standing there alone hoping a sudden swell wouldn't come along. Thanks!
pmb1 Posted March 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2014 Just a shame that he couldn't have worn the safety gear under his uniform jacket.

FennoExpress Posted March 7, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 7, 2014 Absolutely fantastic pics. She does need a dry docking and a good scrub, that amount of marine growth must add to her fuel bills.
MasterNotCommander Posted March 7, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 7, 2014 Undignified publicity. My opinion. Why? Absolutely fantastic pics. She does need a dry docking and a good scrub, that amount of marine growth must add to her fuel bills. Carefully balanced by the bean counters, antifouling costs vs efficiency. Some serious spread sheet calculations take place to make sure the fuel costs are minimised.
Salacia Posted March 9, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 9, 2014 Amazing pictures that really show the magnitude of QM2. Yes, it certainly does. Gave me pause, when I recalled the instructions during the muster drill: if called to abandon ship - "don't jump, just walk off the ship". Looking at the photo, and seeing the distance from Deck 7 to the ocean, I can't imagine whether it would make a difference either way.
Oahucruiser Posted March 9, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 9, 2014 This photo was shown at the end of a national news program last night. Good advertising for the ship and very impressive.
Salacia Posted March 9, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 9, 2014 Undignified publicity. My opinion. Yes, well, it certainly is different. I can't recall the last time I saw a captain of a ship posing for a photo on the bulbous bow. An homage to Stanley Kubrick, perhaps?

Salacia Posted March 15, 2014 #21 Share Posted March 15, 2014 (edited) How they did it and Quercus shower gels to win: http://blog.cruisecritic.co.uk/index.php/2014/03/14/video-and-competition-how-did-cunard-do-that/blog# Ray, I thought you were just kidding about the shower gels, but I see that someone was being serious  Just imagine the question contestants would need to answer correctly to win a bar of soap! A previous poster suggested that the photo was "good advertising" for Cunard. Here is article from AdWeek that might be of interest: http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/cruise-ships-now-depend-parents-bringing-kids-along-156143 Edited to add: My personal opinion is that photographer James Morgan's work is exceptional.
