griffy116 Posted March 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We are about to take our 16th cruise and Hawaii remains one of our favorites. In fact, we would like to go back soon on Pride of America. We cruised on Royal Caribbean, which meant we had 5 days at sea. Normally sea days are something we look forward to but the sea was rough and the weather was beyond cool..it was COLD. Each island is so different and beautiful that it's hard to choose a favorite. Enjoy your cruise. You will LOVE it.
Flatbush Flyer Posted March 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Been to Kauai many times over many years but, never on a cruise ship. Though still regrowing some of the oldest of the lush vegetation lost 20 years ago in Hurricane Iniki, Kauai remains the "garden isle". I recommend that, if you do only one helicopter ride in your life, you do it here and marvel at the Napali Coast as seen from the air. Assuming you'll dock at Nawiliwili on the island's west shore, there's good news and bad news for exploring. The bad news is that all of our favorite haunts are on the east and north. The good news is that the island isn't all that big and I bet tour companies can get you wherever you need/want to go. But you will not be able to do everything. So, here are my "must dos": Napali helicopter, sunset dinner at a Beach Chalet window table, drinks at Tahiti Nui up on the north shore (you'll recognize it from Clooney's movie - "The Descendants), a high school fundraiser luau, the big snorkeling beach north of Lihue (the round jetty makes for very calm water - perfect for families with youngsters or oldsters), lying on the beach in Poipu (south shore) or back to snorkeling at the more advanced "Tunnels" up north. The county museum in Lihue is terrific and there are many fine restaurants IMHO, Best guide book is Ultimate Kauai.
